"Why would anyone impose a tax increase on themselves?"
So you wouldn't live in Mississippi. This was caused by the overreaching of the Commissioners, backed by the Art Pope Brand General Assembly.
Local Control - Republicans once supported it.

(This fight was started by the county commissioners. Who got lots of campaign money from Art Pope) babble
So which board member are you? Or do you want to be? You are so ridiculous you are the only one not laughing at you.
You sound like Susan Evans, are you? Are you her husband?
Rebelyell55 Feb 22, 12:43 p.m.
Is all this for real?
xylem01 Feb 22, 11:09 a.m.
Why would anyone impose a tax increase on themselves? You just can't make this stuff up!
cwmllc1952 Feb 22, 10:12 a.m.
This is a side show of childrens drama. Fact is Wake County is changing existing schools from multi track to single track because of not enough students to support multi track.I want vote for a Tax Increase until there are REAL NUMBERS to support it.
northern-transplant Feb 22, 8:53 a.m.
Susan Evans thinks she deserves respect after all the stunts she has pulled? LOL.
I wonder if the Mr T wannabe used his trademark line of diplomacy and told Commissioner Bryan to "Shut The (expletive) Up".

This fight was started by the county commissioners. Who got lots of campaign money from Art Pope. Who will make money through the Thales private schools, and who will make more if public schools are seen as getting worse.
Do you really want to hand control of WCPSS school building funds to people who owe men who will make money if WCPSS gets overcrowded? Are you seriously that naive?
Handing this budget to the county commissioners is the least smart thing we can do.

The Wake Co. school board and the Wake Co. comm. together could provide SNL with a years worth of material. I am SO glad that I do not live in WAKE county. These people are supposed to be "leaders" and I'm not seeing much of it. Especially the school board.
NoMoreOfThat Feb 21, 7:48 p.m.
This is something isn't it. I mean this school board has made this county a bigger laughing stock than the previous board was ever accused of doing. They won't get another dime from me until they are all fired and if someone with the State school board doesn't come down here and remove that Evans woman I'm afraid someone is going to get hurt. She's a danger to this entire community.
moonpie Feb 21, 7:39 p.m.
I bet Tata's now glad this bunch of intellectually challenged individuals fired him...
rlee1117 Feb 21, 7:21 p.m.
I say it's past time Ms Evans gets put in her place by the school board. Seems to me she has done far worse than Ms Goldman ever did on this board! The funny part if any of it is funny is seeing Ms Evans deny it when we all see it on film on our news.

If WCPSS gets overcrowded, the Thales schools look better and make more money. Handing this budget to the county commissioners is the least smart thing we can do.

The left wing board members are completely clueless in every respect. Paladin2
The right wing commissioners are getting big campaign dollars from someone who will make lots of money from their private schools if WCPSS goes downhill.
Follow the money.
sbr1963 Feb 21, 6:42 p.m.
As usual, no cooperation from the school board. The county probably can do it cheaper, but the school board can see past their egos! Get rid of them all before I vote for a bond.

How many bonds have been passed in the last 15 years for schools, wake tech, county facilities etc? chfdcpt
About $2B for schools in 15 years. We are WAY behind in school building, but we still have a AAA credit rating.
LovemyPirates Feb 21, 6:05 p.m.
I attended several schools built in the 40's and 50's. These were the nicest buildings in our town with large auditoriums and gyms used for many community functions. We were proud of attending these schools because we knew the adults around us cared enough about us to provide us with the best schools possible. I wonder what the children attending the Wake County public schools will think the adults of Wake County think about them. You treat someone like they don't matter and they give you behavior that shows they don't matter.
whatelseisnew Feb 21, 6:03 p.m.
JUST SAY NO TO ANY NEW DEBT. Vote no on ALL BONDS.
"Just remember folks, that those "only $160.00 more per year on your taxes" builds up. How many bonds have been passed in the last 15 years for schools, wake tech, county facilities etc? And don't forget all the bonds that have been passed for whichever city you live in ."
Yep they always use the "it only adds x amount" They completely ignore the amount to which it is added. It is one of the games they play to get bonds passed. They also NEVER lay out, What is the cost if you pay as you go VS what is the cost of the bonds plus the interest that must be paid on the bonds. Last time I checked Wake County Debt servicing it was 125 million per year. The bulk of the debt is schools. Time to STOP borrowing and TIME to STOP building ANY NEW PUBLIC schools. I would actually support a bond to provide vouchers to people to send their kids to private schools.

Do any of the current school board members have a child enrolled in Wake County ? whiffer1
Mr. Sutton, Mrs. Pric kett and Dr. Martin have kids in WCPSS now. Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Kushner have both been in their kids' PTAs, but Mrs. Evans' kids are at NCSU now, don't know about Mrs. Kushner's.
Mr. Benton & Mr. Hill worked in WCPSS (as did Mrs. Pric kett), the ninth seat is empty. Only Mr. Tedesco does not have long relationships with WCPSS outside of the school board.
Dr. Martin is my rep, and when he came door-to-door, he seemed very sincere about wanting data-driven plans, with specifics - his quote above matches his campaign rhetoric.
I fear, though, that our relatively inexperienced board is going to lose this fight to the GOP commissioners. Art Pope wants to mess up WCPSS so his private schools make more $$, and the legislature is in his pocket.
tony57 Feb 21, 6:00 p.m.
Sutton, Martin, Evans.... good to know that these three stooges are carrying on the school board tradition of incompetence. Yea sure, let's give these people more money and raise our taxes.......
taylor3297 Feb 21, 5:53 p.m.
pappybigtuna1- Yes they did waste money on the firing of Tata, but that comes from a different pot of money which commissioners have no say so.
Construction money is a whole different story.
dfmaus Feb 21, 5:52 p.m.
Please, please, please - get rid of the entire school board. That's probably not fair to the new members, but no school board is better than the one we currently have.

Gurley even had to ask Evans to stop whispering in his ear as he was speaking, calling him "je rk" - yup, she's just a model of charm and composure - along with the biting comments of Martin.

Here is a thought. Put schools on 2 shifts. That will would theoretically cut crowding by half. ALL HAIL ME
They tried shifts, using year-round schools. Parents objected (Save Our Summers, for example), so we reduced the # of year-rounds.
All the decisions that the PUBLIC has forced on the school board in the last five years (fewer year round, assignment stability) mean higher costs. I've been saying it for years:
If you supported either of those, you need to support a bond now. You asked for it, you pay for it.
babbleon Feb 21, 5:44 p.m.
"Right now, the community is seeing this as a bunch of adults acting like children, fighting over turf and power," new school board member Tom Benton said.
And who started this fight? The commissioners. How many of them were financed by Art Pope?

"Imagine Susan Evans talking about disrespect. Isn't she the one shown of TV snatching something out of another board member's hands and then snapping at the same person?" - werrewolfwoman
Not to mention all of Evans' antics in school board meetings. Similar to Goldman, she is seriously not fit to serve.
iron fist Feb 21, 4:51 p.m.
some things never change
westernwake1 Feb 21, 4:50 p.m.
It should be noted that nearly all the "name-calling and finger-pointing" in the Thursday morning meeting was done by the school board members. They (the Wake County School Board members) are all still acting like 9 year old children in a playground. They seriously need some adult supervision.
rlee1117 Feb 21, 4:48 p.m.
Wonder how the search is going for our next supt. My bet is they already have him in Mr. Gainey and the search is another coverup and waste of tax dollars! Time tells all!!!
rlee1117 Feb 21, 4:36 p.m.
I asked him in a email for public records of his emails to the board on this matter with no reply. We are taxpayers and yes we have the right to access them under law which seems to be ignored also. Under the public information act requires him to do so when requested to do so. Wonder were my rights are as a taxpayer in wake county !
msha Feb 21, 4:34 p.m.
Quit blaming the Republicans and the Democrats. Stop letting illegals in our country and going to our schools. They are growing with leaps and bounds. We will never be able to build enough schools for all of them the way they are having kids. They are bankrupting us an every way possible. And guess who is paying all the bills?
whiffer1 Feb 21, 4:28 p.m.
Do any of the current school board members have a child enrolled in Wake County ? I'm just curious. Seems if a majority did there would be more interest in getting this situation fixed rather than getting TV time on our local news shows in preparation for their next political run for office.
rlee1117 Feb 21, 4:21 p.m.
Sutton said school boards have experience buying, building and maintaining schools, while commissioners do not.
"We know what we are doing," he said.
Yes he does wasting taxpayer dollars over and over again !
common_sense_plz Feb 21, 4:19 p.m.
I will not vote to increase our taxes. The current school board have shown over and over that they have no clue how to manage our money for our students. Also the Wake County school board have a great deal of the county's money that Mr. Sutton refuses to give back, yet they agreed that any left over monies are to be returned to the county, but Mr. Sutton has refused to return the money.
I seriously doubt that a school bond will pass.
rlee1117 Feb 21, 4:18 p.m.
VOTE NO to give these law breakers more of our tax dollars to blow as they wish. I say the wake board should cut them off now without getting a receipt for what it is spent on and spent legally too!
rlee1117 Feb 21, 4:14 p.m.
Mr.Gainey's staff can't even manage transcripts. How can he or the board that put him in place be trusted with 2 billion of out tax dollars? Mr.Gainey's comments in out meeting was to ignore the facts and mistakes that were made. I am sure this will not change even with the facts put in his face which he had no answer for but to ignore them. Heck they even gave me someone else's private info then asked me who's it was that I had received. Yet his board buddies supported him all the same even with the facts handed to him in person.
