I agree. Skinner was out last season and we still won games. Look at the Habs, they are a small team too. I think our average forward height is around 6 feet and 200 lbs, and our defense is around 6 foot 1 height and like 206 lbs. I am more concerned with the injuries to the defense than I am the forwards. Offense begins with your defense. Hope they win tonight against the Jets, that would be a great win! GO CANES!

He missed several games last season due to this. I hate this for him.

Next man up, hate seeing brent and gleason out, hopefully Piks plays tonight, and of course, if Skins misses alot of time, we are in trouble.

By the way, that hit was all Skinners fault. I love Skinner and I love the canes but he's constantly putting himself in vulnerable positions and getting clobbered out there. Its part of what makes him so great is that he has no fear and competes so hard, but it will also get you concussions. He was doing better this year at not allowing himself to get hit so much but he messed up. He's young, hopefully that will be the last time he's bent over in front of the net playing the puck with his head down, he knows better.

Yeah right, you cant trade away everyone who is not a 30 goal scorer, every team has "small players" on the 3rd and 4th line. We have been scoring like crazy and winning alot. Just cause Skinner is out doesn't mean we have to panic and trade half the team! Also, Rutherford made the 2 best moves in the NHL last summer(J.staal,Semin) so he won't be fired anytime soon.
viking416 Feb 21, 7:35 a.m.
Seems pretty obvious you have not been watching this team.
atc2 Feb 21, 7:04 a.m.
Rutherford needs to do something now. Remember, this was a strike season, you still need to keep fans interested. Get rid of this guys YOU drafted and picked up in trades who are not scoring AT ALL (Bowman, Sanguinnetti, Brent Dwyer, LaRose, McBain, etc. - too many small players). As I said at the beginning of the season, does not matter if there are injuries, Canes do not make playoofs, time to get rid of Rutherford (not brining in the right talent)

Ignore this guy or report him, don't get into it with him. He was a former Season Ticket holder who wanted people to boycott the Canes and not attend games because of the strike. I feel bad for him in a way because he gave up his season tickets but that was his choice. Now he has nothing better to do than ONLY Post on Canes articles with bitter comments. He'll act like this until he can regain his seats at PNC Arena which is unlikely.

...You are too easy to get to. Try to have some thicker skin...Dude
kenshi Feb 20, 10:52 p.m.
This was not an NHL head shot situation. Skins was reaching for the puck and got hit and went sliding headfirst into the boards. There was nothing wrong with the hit, it was mostly Skins momentum that drove him into the boards so hard. An unfortunate injury but not a penalty situation.

Dude, seriously? Isn't it time for your momma to tuck you in bed? Please, go have your warm milk and cookies so that you can spare us from your incredibly childish posts.

...Skins? What, are you guys best friends now? Hop back in your mini van for the trip to th next home game.

...blah blah blah
viking416 Feb 20, 9:37 p.m.
Agreed, the NHL are losing their best players to hits by 4th line guys who no one is paying to see. The Hossa hit last night was evidence. I don't mind the stop in play when these 4th line players take their time in the spotlight (fight). However, when they target smaller skilled players then the game is affected and I for one would rather see the skilled side of the game. Get well soon Skins..
viking416 Feb 20, 8:07 p.m.
Suspected this when he didn't make the trip to Montreal. Hope he can recover...but considering last year it seems he is on a slippery slope. To early in his career to be having this issue.
sanacito Feb 20, 7:44 p.m.
I hate it first and foremost for Skinner. He has unlimited potential. I also hate it for the Canes as they don't have anyone to really replace him. This might be the start of the end of this shortened season.
As for the goons causing these injuries, the NHL is alot of lip service. If they are truly serious, then they need to start suspending players who are guilty of inflicting this punishment on others. And not just a one or two game suspension. Make it for longer...get the point across!!!!!
wlcat609 Feb 20, 6:53 p.m.
Unfortunate....seems the NHL brass are providing 'lip service' to trying to stop the head injuries but there is NO evidence that anything is being done....there was another head injury in last night's Blackhawk - Vancouver game (Hansen of the Canucks was the culprit) with an elbow from behind to the head and NO penalty. NHL refs need to 'get with the program' and start sitting guys down for such and if they don't comply, get the refs off the ice.
I would be in favor of an 'player injury incident' situation...first such ignored but any subsequent player causing an opponent to miss a game or more should be suspended on a progressive scale. Maybe implementing this, teams can get back to 'pure' hockey and get the goons out of the league once and for all.

I was afraid of that when he was twisting his head on the bench after going head first into the boards. Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery. He's going to have to learn how to use his skills while avoiding dangerous situations.
PanthersFan45 Feb 20, 5:39 p.m.
Ugh ... I don't like it. Skinner has so much potential and was sidelined much of last year with injuries. Hopefully he can recover quickly, he was doing an awesome job after Kirk Muller moved him to the 2nd line.
bubbba Feb 20, 5:38 p.m.
Skinner is a target. I hope this stops are he will start having some lifelong issues.
thatrollslayer Feb 20, 5:22 p.m.
Not good. Last thing I wanted to hear. He has had concussion issues in the past, hopefully this is something that isn't long term and he can get through.
GunnyGoesArrrgh Feb 20, 5:20 p.m.
This is exactly what I was afraid of. I hate this for Skins, and the Canes. I hope he recovers quickly and can return to the ice without missing too many games. He was having such a good season.
