ohforpete - " She has been running with this kid for years"

    And you know this how???

  • ohforpetessake Feb 21, 2:49 p.m.

"poor gilr". No way. She has been running with this kid for years. The apt. in Raleigh belongs to a friend of theirs. This girl was in fact raised this way. Nobody here in Central VT wants these two back here. Please NC, do what VT couldn't and put them away for a long time.

  • Longshanks Feb 21, 11:17 a.m.

"poor girl, cute kid and looks like DJ......if she was any other race but white yall would be putting her in jail for life but since she is white, she gets alot of sympathy" CeeLo

Replied to this earlier, obviously WRAL censorship didn't like what I said. Regardless, didn't take long for the race card to find it's way into a conversation dealing with a state trooper being shot and a fugitive being hidden by his pregnant girlfriend, and stated nothing regarding race, ethnicity, creed, religion, etc. I hope the trooper recovers and they throw the shooter in prison for a long time. LEO's have a tough job and I, for one, am appreciative of their work. That said, Cee-Lo, racism goes both ways and I think you're the one we should worry about. Kinda like the pot calling the kettle...well, nevermind...

Oh poor girl...Please Im glad they arrested her lock her up too so sick of people she isnt an innocent party she knew who she was hanging around....Tired of the it was the way they were raised or the situation. Im just upset the suspect is still alive... golfin69

Wow! Obviously, the UNC logo you use for your Avitar isn't because you graduated with a degree in 3rd grade grammar. If you're gonna slam someone, have your kids proof it read prior to hitting the "add comment" button.

  • I know some stuff Feb 21, 10:56 a.m.

It's highly likely that he did not tell her WHY he was running and hiding, but surely she knew that 'he was running and hiding' from something. Surely she helped him go and buy the hair color and help him dye his hair that night, so she's far from innocent, but mostly guilty of being highly stupid...and not just on THAT night.

  • eyeoneastsky Feb 21, 10:51 a.m.

Initial reports were the suspect was picked up by a female with blonde hair. Take note, that her hair is no longer blonde. It appears both of them dyed their hair. She lives in an apt in Durham so why did they both go to an apt in Raleigh to dye their hair? Also I wonder if the suspect had just committed a crime and that is why he was ready to kill an officer. This suspect may have been committing many crimes in this area for a while. I look forward to hearing all the facts of this case.

  • Country Girlz Have MORE fun Feb 21, 10:51 a.m.

Loyality to a man doesn't include hiding him from the law after shooting another person. What are some women thinking these days?

  • subanitov Feb 21, 10:50 a.m.

"One wonders if the bond would be so high for accessory after the fact if the crime had been committed against a mundane instead of a roadside tax collector" nighttrain2010

You recently got a ticket and now your anti Trooper huh? If Troopers were "tax collectors" then why wouldn't NC triple the amount of Troopers to "collect taxes" instead of having a hiring freeze for years? Better question, would you tell Trooper Potts to his face he is a "roadside tax collector" after what he has been through?

  • GravyPig Feb 21, 10:45 a.m.

Way to go girl!! You gonna have a prison baby!! I guess your maternal instincts haven't kicked in yet, otherwise you might have thought of your baby first.

  • eyeoneastsky Feb 21, 10:43 a.m.

vinylcarwraps, I did not say the suspect got out of the car to shoot the officer. Yes, I know about thowing up your hands for protection and I know some people plot and plan evil as easily as they breathe. He, the suspect, had to have prepared for this moment since he had a gun at the ready when he was stopped. I continue to believe he shot the troopers hands on purpose.

  • nothing surprising Feb 21, 10:40 a.m.

How is she considered to be "just a girl"? She is old enough to know right from wrong somewhat. If she is able to carry a child and be responsible for another human being, why not be responsible for this? She drove to pick him up, she knew exactly what she was doing. She made a decision as an adult. This woman is not "just a girl"

  • nighttrain2010 Feb 21, 10:24 a.m.

    >>She was placed in the Durham County jail under a $1.5 million bond

One wonders if the bond would be so high for accessory after the fact if the crime had been committed against a mundane instead of a roadside tax collector.

Note I'm not saying she shouldn't be punished for the crime she committed but I also wonder how fair of a sentence she will get. Will she be allowed to plead out to a lesser charge as would happen in most other similar cases involving a simple citizen? I doubt it.

Point understood, put don't punish the unborn infant for the crimes of its parents. Some role models it will have though, right?

How do they know she knew he shot an officer?? Maybe he never said a word to her about it. Maybe she innocently picked him up not knowing he had shot a Trooper and was a fugitive. This really doesn't pass the sniff test. I would like to see the evidence the police have that justifies her arrest.

  • carelesswhisper Feb 21, 9:48 a.m.

She help a cop shooter get away and helped hide him. Lock her up she's old enough to know what she was doing.

  • janettedder97 Feb 21, 9:31 a.m.

She isn't a child -she is an adult. She made a bad choice and as I tell my children - you make bad decisions there are bad consequences. You make good decisions there are good consequences. She knows better. She is an adult - time to take responsibility for her bad judgment. Prayers once her child is born is properly placed with a loving family that will give him/her a chance at a decent life. Yeh - reality sucks some times.

  • Brogden Feb 21, 9:25 a.m.

I am amazed how many of these comments seem to say this woman - she is not a "girl" - is somehow innocent and the police - always referred to as "cops" in these comments - are wrong. Incredible!
Willing to bet they have her on video picking him up at the restaurant as he dumps the get away car. Willing to bet they have other evidence of how she helped him during the time he was hdden from the Vermont police as well!
Sad that so many paint LEO's as the bad guys! There are a few who are but in my experience VERY few!

  • Squidy Feb 21, 9:11 a.m.

Ignorance runs amuck throughout society. Yet another welfare mother and a child born with his/her life set up for failure. At the very least, the odds stacked against the child. Yet another tragic mess for the woman , child and an over burden society.

  • Firegal Feb 21, 8:51 a.m.

She did a little more than "know he did it". She helped him evade authorities by picking him up and hiding him. My guess is that those wonderful surveillance cameras outside of the Mexican restaurant likely recorded her picking him up in the parking lot. And if so, accessory after the fact should definitely be easy to prove. And I'm not sure I can go for the she was scared bit; he was essentially "helpless" after fleeing and she was not in his direct harm being that she had to drive to pick him up.

Right, if she wants to get away with it, but a smart attorney acting in her best interest, will advise her to agree to, then testify against the man who is going away a long time, then plea to a misdemeanor or get it dismissed.

I'll second that djofraleigh. That would be her true "best" interest. She is pregnant and the best thing she can do for her child is to not be in jail. Maybe she will still have a positive future for herself and most importantly that unborn child which is the innocent bystander in all of this.

  • Minarchist Feb 21, 8:19 a.m.

Have you all considered that he shot the officer in both hands? I suppose so the officer could not use his hands to get his weapon. That is malicious. There was forethought that went into that.

Yea Im sure the suspect got out and aimed at his hands so he couldnt shoot back. I would lean more towards the cop was trying to block flying bullets.

  • eyeoneastsky Feb 20, 7:13 p.m.

These 2 young people were a disaster looking for a place to happen. Shooting a cop is so out there wrong that the punishment has to be severe enough to hopefully deter others who may be thinking of doing it. If this sort of thing continues, we will have anarchy. It really appears we are headed for depravity and third world status. Good for LE for not taking this lying down. They need to fight back and protect those who willingly put their lives on the line for all of us. Have you all considered that he shot the officer in both hands? I suppose so the officer could not use his hands to get his weapon. That is malicious. There was forethought that went into that.

You WILL get blasted for that comment but you are 100% correct.

    and it's sad she's pregnant.

  • Crayzee1 Feb 20, 6:11 p.m.

The cops only arrested her to force her to testify against him. It's accessory after the fact. All that means is she know after he did it, that he did. Of course she did, she was his girlfriend. Since she didn't call and tell the cops he did it, or where he was, they arrest her on the charge. Now they hold that over her (rightful so, it is against the law) and tell her, you testify, we drop charges. Remember it's not blackmail when the government does it, it's justice!

  • computer trainer Feb 20, 5:49 p.m.

Well, she obviously got in the bed with the wrong fella. You have to wonder what her role in all of this was. Even though she is 21, she looks SO YOUNG. Her whole life ahead of her. I just hope that it is not ruined.

"support" that is given by government programs is usually far below what what a working parent could provide for their child. And my point was that she would not be receiving support from the father.

  • jetset Feb 20, 5:32 p.m.

  • jackflash123 Feb 20, 5:29 p.m.

"The taxpayers - me being one - will give her every possible dollar of support she will need until that child is grown and, probably, beyond!"

Actually, no, the people who refer to them as 'taxpayers' are far more likely to whine about every cent they have to pay to help support her child, vote for people who will oppose social programs designed to help people like her and her child, then suggest that child be buried 'under the jail' whenever he or she (no, wait: these self-labeled 'taxpayers' will deny this person is human, too) commits a crime.
