If there is a gag order, why is it in the news in Vermont? (The suspects home state)

"Anytime you have anybody that has a weapon and has shot an officer, that's always a danger to the public," Gordon said.

Because if they had shot someone else it would have been less of a danger to the public. - awr117

Actually awr117, I think it has to do with the fact that anyone willing to shoot at an officer during a traffic stop clearly has something to hide and nothing to lose. Shooting an officer means you are shooting someone you KNOW is armed and trained with their weapon (not to mentioned, potentially wearing a bullet proof vest) and will shoot back without hesitation.

Do not underestimate the power of the WRAL super-sleuths. They can jump to a conclusion based on the scantest trace of information better than anyone I've ever seen.

Get well soon Trooper Potts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and fellow Law Enforcement Officers who lay it on the line every day.

Oh well, I tried to post that on the scanner last night cops were saying the man's anem and the car he is suspected of being in after ditching the Altima.

For the person asking best app: get the Radio 5-0 app. It's free. Go to Wake county then you can click on the NCHP link.

  • wd43stp123 Feb 19, 9:27 a.m.

Crumps, it was probably around 915 on the state police channel. I would put their name in here but I am sure WRAL has been issued a gag order. Around 1015 the cops discussed that one of their wives was listening to them over the internet. Shortly after, the radio coverage stopped. I am guessing moved to a private channel. Just like the Chris Dorner radio traffic. Look how he ended up? Trial by police, burn that house down.

Because if they had shot someone else it would have been less of a danger to the public.

Or is it a danger to the public because the entire police force will not be searching for this one guy?

Regardless, hope the office gets well.

  • MadBiker Feb 19, 9:25 a.m.

If caught, this shooter faces some serious probation time!

  • beach2011 Feb 19, 9:24 a.m.

  • hollylama Feb 19, 9:12 a.m.

Lots of prayers for Trooper Potts and even more humbling to know Gov. McCrory visited.

  • chattycat Feb 19, 9:10 a.m.

thought of running the plates/registration on the car? It would seem they would have the suspects name plastered all over the state by now. tarheelfan41

You are some kind of detective!! I am sure that they needed you to tell them to do this. Really?? Ignorance abounds.

  • Uhavenoclu Feb 19, 9:07 a.m.

Hmmm...a white man in his 20s, wearing a white T-shirt, with blond hair and short, military-style haircut...shooting at a state/government employee...

Copycat in the making????????????????????????,with a little difference???????

  • deb788 Feb 19, 9:06 a.m.

Thank you Trooper Potts and all those in service to the community everywhere. Prayers for a speedy recovery and for his family and loved ones at his side. I hope this person to be apprehended today and brought to justice.

  • ncouterbanks69 Feb 19, 9:06 a.m.

  • jlh4jdj Feb 19, 9:06 a.m.

Glad the officer it ok. I know they don't get paid enough for this. I wish they would start having this kind of response to every shooting. Then I wish the courts would step up and actually keep these low life people off the streets!

  • more cowbell Feb 19, 9:03 a.m.

Temporary tags aren't registered with the DMV, only at the point of issuance which in this case is most likely a car dealer.

Tracing the VIN would be a little more productive, providing the car was new and sold by a Nissan dealership.

If it's a stolen car, good luck.

  • RealStory Feb 19, 9:02 a.m.

FYI Temporary tags aka 30-day tags aren't registered like regular metal plates. They don't have the owners info attached to them like a metal plate until one is issued to the vehicle. They could get that information at the dealership where the car was sold. You can tell however which dealership issued the temp tag

  • tarheelj Feb 19, 9:01 a.m.

Tarheelfan41 if you had been following this you would know that the car had 30 day tags on it which can't be run...they belong to the dealership and are not registered in the owners nane as they are temporary.
Crumps Bother are you serious? They are not putting his address out because its no ones business and would you want your address out for the man that shot you to have access to so he could I don't know go hurt your family????
Praying for the Trooper and his family or Thank You LEO for constantly putting your life in harms way for my safety is all that should be posted on here.

  • Rebelyell55 Feb 19, 8:59 a.m.

First, speedy recovery to the Officer.
The Trooper who speed checks every morning on I85 at Cole Mill Rd was there today...as usual. 8 am every moring. Either on the ramp or in the middle median.

I used to listen to Durham PD on the Tunein Radio app. but it isnt a working station anymore. Does anyone else know an APP that has their feed. It is quite interestion to listen to sometimes...

So, the police released his name, address and phone number over the scanners. Why isn't this showing up on the news?
    wd43stp123

what time did they do that? I listened up until 9PM or so. They had just found the car and were going to the dealership to find out info on the buyer. Was it after that?

  • computer trainer Feb 19, 8:38 a.m.

Glad that the trooper is ok, and able to be surrounded by family and friends. Appreciate that we have a Gov that cares enough to go and check on a trooper who was injured in the line of duty. Prayers for all. Now, go find that shooter.

  • Nancy Feb 19, 8:27 a.m.

They don't get paid enough to put their lives on the line everyday like this, they deal with the 'lower than pond scum' people and take more disrespect than one can imagine.

I hope they find the fool who did this and he ends up spending plenty of time behind bars.

  • Crumps Br0ther Feb 19, 8:27 a.m.

I was listening to the police scanner online last night. They were moving heaven and earth looking for the shooter!
