That being said - for the life of me, I can't grasp this. First of all, given his financial status, he MUST have someone dooing this for him. Most Wealth Managers offer tax planning and tax prep services. Clearly they had to have known about his working and residing in NC (regardless as to where this firm may be).
Second - no way the STate of NC didn't send several notices regarding this. Did Sid just simply ignore, or did his firm ignore?
Third - NO EXCUSE for this. My wife and I make a fraction of what he does, and we go beyond our efforts to have taxes done, double-checked, and filed well in advance of 4/15 timeline.
In reality - here's what will happen. Sid will pay whatever back taxes he owes, plus a fine, and get some sort of probation.
If he really has no knowledge of what is happening wiht his finances, he needs a new advisor! I know plenty I could refer him too (I work in the field)
