You've obviously never been to Russia. And the Philippines are Eden compared to some of the Balkan states.

Prayers for his family and friends. That said I have been to the Philippines many times and there isn't a more corupt society from police included. Unless he had a known heart condition then an investigation needs to be done. The number of expats and foreigners done in by wives, girlfriends or others boggles the mind. With the Philippines even if he did have a heart condition I'd investigate.

"He played in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat before moving to Manila to establish the Filipino Basketball Academy."
With 3 strong and established programs in our area (4 if you don't think Wake Forest is too far away to be counted), it's easy to forget that most of the recruits to our big schools' basketball teams are really classy guys off the court.
MoDuke v2 is gone Feb 18, 12:56 p.m.
Yep, that one has always been on my highlight reel. I remember when he was a freshman coming in the game and started immediately nailing outside jumpers. I was thinking then, this kid is going to be special.
My prayers are with the Henderson family.

Most of you have probably heard by now about the passing of former Duke star, Phil Henderson. According to Facebook user Erik Waldie, Henderson died of a heart attack. He had just recently moved to Manila in the Philippines and was coaching and teaching basketball to kids in the community.

I think alot of people are going to miss Phil Henderson for the kind of person he was I want to express my regrets to the Family and to the Duke family. Please know he was loves so very much.

Please don't put a moderator on the sports area, as our comments will only be delayed in being posted and will be weeded out by the PC police, like they are on the other WRAL stories.
If you don't agree with a post, either politely disprove it or ignore it. As for Henderson, I liked him both as a player and person. A loss for the Duke family.

Sorry for his loss and sympathy and prayers for his family and friends.
I've played a few pickup games with him at the Durham Downtown Y. He always seemed like a nice guy.

Phil & Brickey are both very good friends, and both of them are great peoples as well as good player, and no, i am not a Duke Fan, but a N.C. State fan. But 6 ex player are friends to very close friends of mines, and Phil should have made some NBA team other than the team that drafted him, i.e. Dallas Mav. which it came down to keeping him or Steve Alford as the final player to make the team, they kept Alford. Well, he did ended up playing on a few semi pro teams in the country before leaving overseas to play for several difference teams. As i have said, Phil is a great guy, and i miss him, my prayer to his mother, ex wife & his son.
randdjacobs Feb 18, 8:42 a.m.

Unlike his daddy, so far he's proven to be too sorry to shoot.
Hot women, good bourbon and a good grill is all a man needs.

Wow, just 44 years old but no mention as to the cause of death. I recall his playing days when he was on the 1990 team that lost to UNLV. Im sure there will be (if not already) statements coming from Coack K, Bobby Hurley, Christian Laettner and the many other teammates he had while at Duke.

Everytime you would see Phil long after he graduated he always seemed genuinely interested in the person he would be talking to...always made others feel so special... too young to be gone....will be missed..
