You are right, however the same creed that caused it at the national level has now visited the state of NC. You have been had!

More customer friendly state government? In this state, forget it. This is the worse I've seen in the five states I've lived in. If McCrory wants a model on effective and customer service state government, he should take a look at Utah.

What an incredible refreshing change from "good old liberal, big spedning Bev", watching the speech and loving it!! Fiscal common sense, something this state has been lacking for a long long time. I especially like his comments about creating a Gov't that is focused on customer service. A well needed paradigm shift.

  • tracmister Feb 18, 5:28 p.m.

There's only one thing that worries me about him other than there hasn't been one idea on how to create a job, but plenty of cuts and a few raises. Based on a recent article, it sounds like he will be talking about how much worse shape we are in since he's review the government. Sounds like we're are already playing the blame game. Fix it, or own it. There is not blame, aka Obama.

Got any real facts to back up your assertions? I bet you don't. You simply have no concept of what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck, on the ragged edge. That $10,000 tax hit to a person making $500,000 a year isn't nearly as meaningful as the $500 tax hit to a family living on $25 a year. You'll never understand because you're not willing to try. You sit here and snipe at the 'liberal' boogieman, yet in the time you're doing that Exxon has pocketed $9,000 of our taxpayer money. But you don't seem to have an issue with THAT kind of welfare.

  • tjohnson27 Feb 18, 5:16 p.m.

It is a reson we have not had a republican governor in 20 years, they get in office and only think about the rich people..I know NC have not been perfect in the last 20 years, but it was not that bad either..this governor have been in office less then six months and there are already 4 bills against the poor/middle class...to not take the medicaid money is just politics(don't punish the people of NC just because you don't like our president)and in these economic times why would you punich a laid off worker, there are ways to catch the free loader without this drastic change..i could go on,,,the DUKE situiation......

"Maybe he would introduce his cabinet memnbers and explain why they were given a raise before they got they new chair warm."

I have to say that to me that was a very dumb move. If anything, he should have CUT the pay levels for those positions, not increased them. In fact, assuming State law allows for it, he should have eliminated as many of those positions as possible, or in lieu of that, left them vacant.

  • whatelseisnew Feb 18, 4:46 p.m.

"It is interesting that the generation of my parent paid significantly more taxes than I do but it is my generation who whines about the incredible tax burden."

Not sure which generation you are part of, but I am retired and I paid FAR FAR too much in taxes and I am still taxed fairly hard. However, younger people I fear are going to see levels of taxation that will be absolutely heart-breaking. For now Government continues to ignore the bill coming due as they borrow and spend and borrow and spend. THAT bill will have to be paid and unfortunately MILLIONS of Americans are convinced stuff should be "FREE", and even more millions think that this is correct functioning of Government. Those that help PAY the bills, realize there is no free. Millions of Americans are going to learn that lesson in a very hard way.

"Don't forget a free ride for the wealthy and corporations."

It amazes me that people are so ill-informed as to say something like this. Two things. THE WEALTHY (most of them) pay way more that the so-called "fair share of taxes). Two THE DEMS have done nothing but stick it to the middle class, over and over and over. The REPS are not far behind in that behavior, but the DEMS do it and continuously get away with lying about it, because they convince the ill-informed that they are only interested in taxing the rich. Please review ObamaCare taxes. Please review the current up-coming 2013 tax changes already in the books. Please pay attention to WHICH party in the Federal arena insists there is no spending problem and also insists that they need even more tax (revenue as they like to call it.) As to corporations, MOST pay unbelievable amounts of taxes. THE PROBLEM IS SPENDING. THE PROBLEM IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN REVENUE. Stop believing the political lies.

I don't know how anyone could want Medicaid expanded in this state after reading about DHHS and the lies, cheating and theft by the higher-ups.

The expansion of Medicaid was for 500k adults SOLELY in order to bring them into compliance with 0care. It was not because they were going without care - they went to the ER. They were too wealthy to qualify for Medicaid and did not feel like paying for health insurance OR health care, so they stole from others.

WE would have paid to bring THEM into compliance with an ORDER from the Dictator that everyone else will be punished for if they disobey. Glad McC turned it down.

"I gladly pay for all of those mentioned. What I have a problem with is paying for deadbeats and sharing my wealth."

No one likes to pay for deadbeats but then again, everyone wants help if they're in a tough situation. That's the problem, we can't just eliminate all help because some are deadbeats. As it stands, welfare is temporary and a very small part of the overall budget. As far as sharing your wealth, what do you think taxes are for? How many people can afford to pay for their own M-1 tank or government research?
