And the Democrats have drones with missiles. All you guys stockpiling your 20 M-15 knock offs and and thousands of rounds of ammunition need to keep this in mind. They're coming to get you, when you least expect it. Afghanistan was just a warm up!

    Because they have guns.

Actually cantstandgoloanymore, defense spending is 14%, Welfare 10%, Pensions 18%, Healthcare 19% and Education 13%. Sorry to let facts get in the way!

Gee RaisinCake, what was their first the air base or you? Bad choice of housing I guess!

  • yankee1 Feb 15, 7:26 p.m.

That's fine! Nobody thought a bunch of 15th century terrorists could take down the World Trade Center with a few box cutters either, did they? After all it's far more important to liberals and their ideology that we hand out taxpayer money to the lazy and the illegals and give gifts of military equipment to our friends- the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. I get it! And Russia, China, Iran and North Korea laugh!

  • CharmedLife Feb 15, 7:20 p.m.

I live a few hundred yards away from the base, so it doesn't bother me a bit that they are cancelling the air show. I hear and see those planes everyday. And between the choices of spending the money on an un-needed air show OR use the money to keep our boys ready, I'd say they made a wise move!

  • cantstandgoloanymore Feb 15, 7:12 p.m.

yankee1 - like any of your doomsday prophecies are going to happened. Even with the budget cuts, our defense spending is still more than the entire GDP of all but the top 19 countries. It is 6 times the next nearest defense spending budget of any other country in the world. Yeah, cutting it 10-20% is going to just leaves open for take over.

djofraleigh you realize that if the country is attacked and our military is budgeted out of existence, carbon emissions will matter even less than they do now. You liberals really have no clue at all.

  • yankee1 Feb 15, 6:42 p.m.

Wait until budget cuts ground the entire Air Force. We'll see if you liberals are as comfortable then. You know the liberal bastions of New York City and DC will be the first to get blown up, right? We'll see who is laughing then!

  • jackal10782 Feb 15, 6:30 p.m.

The only ones that got hurt are businesses in the area around the air show. They depend on that money to keep the doors open and make improvements to their business. In the end it's always the little man that pays the price.

Here is a blow by blow history of who came up with the sequestration and I advise anyone who wants the truth to read it:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/obamas-fanciful-claim-that-congress-proposed-the-sequester/2012/10/25/8651dc6a-1eed-11e2-ba31-3083ca97c314_blog.html

  • Worland Feb 15, 6:06 p.m.

Sequester was ALL OBAMA! His idea. His plan. He was very proud of it. Can't lie your way out of this one Dems. When is this President ever going to take responsibility for anything that happens during his tenure? Excuses for his inept leadership are getting old.

Amusing that even GW managed to get things done when the Dems controlled Congress. Obama can't seem to get his own party in line, let alone work across the isle.

  • Pirate01 Feb 15, 5:56 p.m.

These "cuts" are simply reductions to future spending increases. They are trying to guilt people into saying we do not need spending cuts.

This was Obama's idea and he knows that any appearance that the economy is doing well is because of governmental deficit spending. Bring on the "budget cuts" and lets get a real look at the Obama economy!!!

  • Objective Scientist Feb 15, 5:56 p.m.

Regardless of the reasons... Which may be good and justifiable - I love seeing those jets FLY!!! I will definitely miss the show!

  • djofraleigh Feb 15, 5:55 p.m.

You have to be a liberal to the nth power to think it is appropriate for the government to provide you entertainment at taxpayer expense.
    -- COMMENT

Both parties do it. Now, liberals are not going against Obama for any reason. Notice that the anti-war crowd is quiet and no demand for flag draped coffins today, except for Benghazi.

Notice how the red/blue political divide parallels the Duke/Carolina divide emotionally.

  • djofraleigh Feb 15, 5:50 p.m.

PR wise, this threat is a backfire. We can do without an airshow that is funded 42% by borrowing from Asia, among others. Even with the sequestration, our deficit spending and national debt will continue to grow.

We approach our over-spending the same way we do carbon emissions, we think slowing increases means fixing the problem, and it doesn't, but the talk is a pacifier for public.

  • beachboater Feb 15, 5:49 p.m.

The Wings over Wayne is a trememdous community relations project for the air force. It's a great show, and there are many non-military planes featured. I got stuck in the traffic a couple of years ago. I was really surprised at the number of cars waiting in lines to get onto the base. The lines were literally miles long.

I have only watched portions of it was a dead-end road that stops at the fence. I was impressed.

I think it is a worthwhile project, but to have the government make some cuts, I'll give up Wings Over Wayne. Hopefully they will do it again in the futues.

"When you look at this final agreement that we came to with the White House, I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I’m pretty happy." cvdurham

Another liberal talking point. If you google this quote what comes up are a bunch of left-wing web sites like the daily kos, huffington post, etc." Besides you're quoting something from August 2011 - more than a year and half ago. Not very relevant at all in 2013.

Oh really? Let me quote GOP House Speaker John Boehner on the sequester: "When you look at this final agreement that we came to with the White House, I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I’m pretty happy."
    cvdurham

I believe Obama got a few hundred billion dollars worth on new taxes..... Boehner saved the remaining 98% of Americans from those taxes AND got the sequester deal which was the Dems idea.
Obama hoped to kick the can a little further down the road. Well we are running out of road... time for some cuts... its up to the Dems if those cuts will be automatic, or if equal cuts elsewhere can be found.

  • Cock a doodle doo Feb 15, 5:21 p.m.

If you want entertainment, go to the DPAC. The military's job is to protect us, not entertain us.

  • mep Feb 15, 5:18 p.m.

But you are blaming the cuts that are being made and in the same breath complain about the debt. You can't have it both ways.
    Plenty Coups

Not complaining.... just comparing how people do not seem to mind "someone else" either paying more in taxes, or having their budget cut.... but dont let it effect them.

I love the GOP trying to re-write history. GOP Speaker John Boehner said he got "98 percent of what I wanted." in the sequester "I’m pretty happy".

Obama was behind the sequester-- further proof that folks will blame republicans for anything and everything.

  • superman Feb 15, 4:37 p.m.

Savings are "low" but she failed to say just how much. The price of gas is about $3.60 a gal. While savings might be low according to her definition-I might take a different view when it is coming out of my pocket. If it dont cost that much--sell tickets for admission. Sell snacks to help pay the cost.

  • aspenstreet1717 Feb 15, 4:37 p.m.

In reality the only way Congress will ever cut spending is automatic cuts. So lets get on with it. It could have been done gradually but we have zero leadership.

  • Nancy Feb 15, 4:36 p.m.

Is this a high priority budget item for our military? The answer would be no, not in hard economic times.

  • EvanRude Feb 15, 4:35 p.m.

Believe me, I love a good air show and a loud and fast flyover at sporting events, but those are not necessary expenses.

  • warbirdlover Feb 15, 4:32 p.m.

  • rushbot Feb 15, 4:26 p.m.

Thanks burr and all the other cons!!

  • cybermil Feb 15, 4:22 p.m.

its good they recognize they need to cut back on spending. And, the air show doesn't do anything for national security, so its not a big loss.

  • USAF Vet Feb 15, 4:21 p.m.

Resources are more than just money...

  • rushbot Feb 15, 4:20 p.m.

I blame the cons for this. Boehner and Mcconnell are obstructionists bent on destroying AMerica!!! However, air shows are not the mission of the Dept of Defense!! SIU and drive on, ladies and gents!!!

  • aspenstreet1717 Feb 15, 4:19 p.m.

Oh well. Get some headlines. The military wrote the book on waste about time they stopped.

  • jdupree Feb 15, 4:17 p.m.

They are not in the air show business! They are national defense! It's time to tighten up on lots of waste in government! This is just one small thing.

  • caddy2076 Feb 15, 4:14 p.m.

In Norfolk,VA the ship, Lincoln is not be refueled because of budget cuts. In Goldsoro, N. C. the Air Force is not having an air show because of budget cuts. In Washington, DC, Barack has flown off to Florida for a vacation weekend, and Michelle is flying off to Aspen, CO for another vacation - just got back from Hawaii a few weeks ago. Budget cuts are going to affect the Obama,s and their wild spending of taxpayer money. OMG!

  • bljnnc2004 Feb 15, 4:13 p.m.

All the budget problems started long before Obama. Either way, the air shows themselves are not very safe. Too many aircraft accidents to support having them. I think a few people have been killed at those shows (due to planes falling out of the sky).

  • Plenty Coups Feb 15, 4:11 p.m.
