The EPA is nothing more than a governmental regulatory body that operates at the whim of the sitting president, whomever it is. The EPA should be regulated or disbanned. How many different blends of gasoline are there? And why is diesel so high?

  • paultaylorsr100 Feb 15, 6:44 p.m.

Why is everyone becoming so compliant and accepting this $3.50 a gallon for gas? Remember when it was $.99 a gal. and everyone freaked?!! Everytime it goes up we become compliant and eventually accept it as the norm. GET THESE CLOWNS OUT OF OFFICE!!!!

  • 68_dodge_polara Feb 14, 9:15 a.m.

Is it me or do some have trouble reading or is it that they just can't admit to being wrong?

"You mean the fact you're blaming Obama for something the EPA has required since 3 years before he was elected?"

Ah again...No, for the new requirements the EPA forcing under Obama in 2012.

  • junkmail5 Feb 13, 4:59 p.m.

In 2012 the EPA released a new forecast that projects a whopping 14 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol to be produced in 2013.

Feel free continue to ignore the facts.

You mean the fact you're blaming Obama for something the EPA has required since 3 years before he was elected?

I don't think facts mean what you think they mean.

(the fact both your "supporting" documents are fox news kinda supports that idea)

  • 68_dodge_polara Feb 13, 4:28 p.m.

Obama's EPA ruining the economical recovery by continuing to raise the cellulosic biofuels tax on refiners. Which we pay at the pump.

The the fact is that this product has never materialized and the EPA under Obama has refused the oil industry's request to stop fining the industry for failing to blend cellulosic ethanol in gasoline.- 68_dodge_polara

So... OBAMA raised the price of gasoline... by simply not changing the policy that existed 4 years before he was even sworn in?

I'm not sure you understand what the word raised means.

Especially when gas prices now are about the same as they were in the months before Obama was elected.

  • 68_dodge_polara Feb 13, 2:56 p.m.

Here is the reference to 2005:

"Refiners are at their wit's end because the government set out requirements to blend cellulosic ethanol back in 2005, assuming that someone would make it. Seven years later, no one has."

The the fact is that this product has never materialized and the EPA under Obama has refused the oil industry's request to stop fining the industry for failing to blend cellulosic ethanol in gasoline.

So again Obama is at fault for a least a portion of the high gas prices. In fact in his own words before his first election he said he would like to eventually see gas prices closer to the 4 dollar a gallon mark.

  • junkmail5 Feb 13, 1:46 p.m.

Also yet another way Obama is raising fuel prices.

EPA blasted for requiring oil refiners to add type of fuel that's merely hypothetical

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/06/21/regulation-requires-oil-refiners-use-millions-gallons-fuel-that-is-nonexistent/
    68_dodge_polara

that makes even less sense than your last failed argument.

Your own source mentions the requirement was published in...

    2005.

3 years before Obama was even elected.

But somehow you're blaming him for it?

It makes even less sense than that since the article doesn't mention it raising fuel costs in any way (how could it, since it does not exist?)

  • junkmail5 Feb 13, 1:43 p.m.

    Entirely not true.- 68_dodge_polara

Except it is, and I provided you a link to the Cornell University study that reached that very conclusion.

While you providing... nothing... to support your claim.

Further, we already have an abundance of capacity from Canada-

Glen Perry, a petroleum engineer for Adira Energy, has warned that including the Alberta Clipper pipeline owned by TransCanada's competitor Enbridge, there is an extensive overcapacity of oil pipelines from Canada.[84] After completion of the Keystone XL line, oil pipelines to the U.S. may run nearly half-empty. The expected lack of volume combined with extensive construction cost overruns has prompted several petroleum refining companies to sue TransCanada

In short the pipeline would have served nobody except oil companies who would have been able to charge MORE and EXPORT more outside the US from the gulf.

The exact opposite of what you want.

  • junkmail5 Feb 13, 1:19 p.m.

Now, if you just wanna cherry pick a range of dates... they "skyrocketed" far more under Bush... going from under $1 at one point to nearly $4.

That's a 4x skyrocket, versus the 2x one you get if you dishonestly cherry pick for Obama pricing.

But in the real world prices go up and down, and if you look back to the last year on your own source you seem the same pattern as if you look at the last 2.

And no skyrocketing in sight, just normal ups and downs, starting and ending about the same time each year, in the same low 3 to high 3 dollar range.

And that's some facts for you :)

  • 68_dodge_polara Feb 13, 1:17 p.m.

"Refusal to allow the keystone pipeline to be built. 68_dodge_polara

    No, seriously...

Because that probably would have RAISED oil prices."

    Entirely not true.

Most of our refinery capacity is located in Gulf region where the pipe line would have carried it.

Also yet another way Obama is raising fuel prices.

EPA blasted for requiring oil refiners to add type of fuel that's merely hypothetical

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/06/21/regulation-requires-oil-refiners-use-millions-gallons-fuel-that-is-nonexistent/

  • goobnav Feb 13, 12:42 p.m.

    Still trying to deflect.

    Your words, junk:

I ask because gas, right now, is similar in price to where it was about a year ago... and is in fact CHEAPER than it was when Obama was first elected president.

Since when is $3.50 less that $1.80 on 1/21/09?

Oh that right, you went to the Bankster school of math, where 2 + 2 = 5.

    This is too easy.

  • junkmail5 Feb 13, 12:42 p.m.

Refusal to allow the keystone pipeline to be built.
    68_dodge_polara

    No, seriously...

Because that probably would have RAISED oil prices.

The oil from the tar sands NOW goes to midwest US refineries and is sold in the US.

With the entire pipeline it would've gone to the gulf, and a fair bit of it would be EXPORTED to _other_ countries.

Cornell found that exact thing likely in the study they did-

    http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/globallaborinstitute/research/upload/GLI_KeystoneXL_Reportpdf.pdf

It would've made the Koch brothers a lot of money though, which is why all the anti-Obama folks were so vocal about it.

    From the report-

"» KXL will divert Tar Sands oil now supplying Midwest refineries, so it can be sold at higher prices to the Gulf Coast and export markets. As a result, consumers in the Midwest could be paying 10 to 20 cents more per gallon for gasoline and diesel
    fuel"

So seriously, what has Obama done to "skyrocket" gas prices?

  • junkmail5 Feb 13, 12:13 p.m.

    sorry, ran outta characters :)

Now go to the 2 year view. Same thing. Prices climb in the Feb to late April time frame. Then drop off through summer then go back up through around labor day...then drop off again until after the new year.

Did that last year. Did that the year before. Is doing it this year.

All in similar ranges between low $3.xx and high $3.xx

No "skyrockting" going on. Just the normal up and down of pricing.

So I agree there's someone here posting the truth, but it ain't you goobnav.

  • goobnav Feb 13, 11:52 a.m.

    Dear delusional and wrong junkmail5,

Bad news, gas was about $1.80 on 1/21/09, here is reference for your leaders to try and debunk:

    http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx?time=24

The Banksters are getting desperate, this is a perfect example of the uneducated trying to dispell the truth.

Have fun trying lie, we'll keep posting the truth.

Can you explain what specific actions he has taken that caused a significant increase in the price of gas?

I ask because gas, right now, is similar in price to where it was about a year ago... and is in fact CHEAPER than it was when Obama was first elected president.

So reality seems to be unlike your perception of it.

  • dontstopnow Feb 13, 10:15 a.m.

As I read through all the posts on this story it is quite clear that until WE THE PEOPLE make changes in our way of thinking and reacting to all this, we will never get anything changed that will benefit us.

Obama has been very effective at dividing the people in the US through policy, both social and economic, but if we don't stop buying into all this hate and envy we are doomed. Our future generations need to learn how to work through adversity together and there is not one single person in our government at this time in history that is an example of that. People, we need to start showing a united front to ALL these policies that are destroying our country whether they are from either political party.

  • admyank Feb 13, 10:09 a.m.

It's not because of spectators - it is all because of the government.

  • wanderer Feb 13, 9:54 a.m.

"Remember when Bush was in office and gas prices were all his fault? But not a word now that Barry is wrecking things"

Yep, I also remember others saying how Bush couldn't control the price of gas. So why the flip flop now?

  • Thought Criminal WS Feb 13, 9:52 a.m.

    This *IS* Obama's doing.

Go back about 6 years and research his statements, he TOLD us he intends to have 8-9$ a gallon gas... because he feels thats fair for Americans to pay... for the love of God I think this man hates us and our country.

    Impeach the rotten liar!

  • Nancy Feb 13, 9:51 a.m.

Keep in mind that every increase in daily consumables goes up with weaker our dollar gets. How does the dollar get weak? Massive debt.

What did the State of the Union speech give us? More recommended spending (which he claims won't cost a dime in added debt but gave no specifics on how that could happen) and until and unless we reign in the huge deficit, we're not ever going to do more than tread water, some will flat out drown.

  • tayled Feb 13, 9:50 a.m.

"And how high is the state tax on gas for NC 37.75 cents per gallon."

Yup, that was a formula that the old GA under Easley (or was it Hunt) came up with to raise the taxes by connecting it to the price of gas, gas prices go up, taxes go up.

I'll be surprised if the moderator hera allows this comment, but I challenge Gov. McCrory and the GA to cap this gas tax NOW. If they do not act, the tax will just keep getting higher, meaning we will pay more in NC for gas. At the same time, we will lose business to SC and VA who have lower gas taxes.

  • tayled Feb 13, 9:47 a.m.

OK, its time for our state and federal governments to get off our backs when it comes to fuel prices. The state, and I am talking about NC, should immediately cap its gas tax. If they do not, we will continue the vicious cycle of raise the price, then raise the tax based on the higher price, which leads to higher prices and more tax. End this NOW!

  • WageSlave Feb 13, 9:44 a.m.

Speculation certainly plays a part in short term trends. But overall, its just inflation. Actually, due to technology and the petro-dollar, oil is cheaper than it should be.

My 1964 quarter will buy 1.5 gallons today compared to 1 gallon in 1964. Eventually, inflation will whipe out the "cash is king" mentality as well. Look at your monetary policy and economics standards.

"You need to diversify your bonds son" Wu tang, haha.

  • goobnav Feb 13, 9:43 a.m.

Its Bush's fault, its Obama's fault.

Wow! Talk about delusional people. Neither can care less about your well being, neither does any other politican. If you believe that they do, I have a Bridge, cheap in Brooklyn to sell you.

The Banksters control everything, the speculators, that's a good one, the investors, even better and, the Banks that hire them. The Federal, no more Federal than FedEx, Reserve holds this nation illegally hostage and the collaspe of this economy is not a "myth", it is an undeniable fact that is being covered by the Mainstream Media.

  • VickLo Feb 13, 9:42 a.m.

I like the high prices. I hope they go up more. It keeps my wallet light, saves me a ton of taxes on my savings interest, I get a super sense of accomplshment when the pump maxxes out and I have to re-swipe my card to fill the tank on my lawn tractor.

The benefits are almost endless. Then again, I'm a glass half full type...

The reins on spending MUST be pulled in. The stimulus money is a fancy word for more spending! we can NOT continue. When the Repulbicans say NO, all the people get in an uproar and say we are heartless and cruel. What is heartless and cruel is to have our children suffer for this wild spending. Ridiculous!

  • nckidd29 Feb 13, 9:34 a.m.

The federal government republicans and democrats alike, are totally out of touch with "real" America. They need to realize the more I have in my pocket the more I spend on good and services. The more I spend, the better the economy. The more I spend on gas, the less I spend at restaurants, and retail outlets. They hold the key but just don't seem to want to unlock the door. It is time they REALLY listen to their constituents instead of each other.

"Time we spend the money and build a triangle loop monorail service--Apex--cary---Raleigh---Durham---Chapel Hill???????" - Uhavenoclu

They already looked into that. The public interest is not viable for an area like the Triangle to build a massive rail system of any kind. In fact, the only systems of that kind that are viable are ones in cities that grew around the system. And public taxes are the only way to keep those in operation.

Let's see, payroll taxes went up first of year, smaller paycheck. County and city are proposing property tax hikes next year. Gas prices are going up again. Health insurance premium went up 17% this year. Duke Energy wants another increase.

The state of the union is great! Now that all is better, we can start spending again...

  • pipcolt Feb 13, 9:03 a.m.

Sometime with-in his next 4 years you will see the goverment start a fuel voucher system that the country will have to accept or have to buy a total electric car to get around. But the first thing that is going to be done with the new health care insurance laws is everybody will have to have a chip implant put into there body. It's coming soon.

This is not news, this is not unexpected if your eyes work, this is more Government incompetence and a country that talks big about wanting to get into the renewable resources, but has no intention of ever doing so. By this summer Americans will be bleeding from their tail pipes and they have no one to blame but themselves. If five dollars for a gallon of fuel is not enough to make Americans wake up then maybe millions more losing their health benefits over the next two years, because their employers can no longer afford to cover them and it's cheaper to pay a fine, will be.

But I won't hold my breath, look who they continue to elect.

  • wayneboyd Feb 13, 8:36 a.m.

If, and I said if, the production increases by 13% Americans will never realize any benefits from it. The gas companies will export every gallon we don't consume and pocket the money, and continue to raise the price of fuel on us claiming the demand by Americans is forever increasing.
Elem-Teach got it right, Not one person in Washington practices anything they preach except the president, he makes no bones about the fact that he wants to destroy the middle class in America. Oh he preaches he does out of one side of his mouth. But his actions prove him a liar!
