Very sad that this 16 year old kid is dead because he made a stupid decision -- that said ... the owner did NOTHING wrong. I hope one day he finds peace.

NOBODY LOOKS FOR FURNITURE WITH A GUN , HOOD AND A MASK.Thank God the owner was not hurt bad

  • Sherlock Feb 13, 9:11 a.m.

The sheriff said the store owner is devastated over the shooting and likely will not face charges. Why should there even be thinking of any charges, they cam e to the owner. But knowing the sheriff here I'm not suprised that he would try to charge the owner.

  • beachboater Feb 12, 5:17 p.m.

The one that was killed was the one carrying the gun and demanding money. Why should opinions change? Anyone who carries a gun on a robbery has to be willing to pay the ultimate price.

  • Its the who what Feb 12, 3:05 p.m.

Wow...when this story first came out, there was not a picture of the kid who got shot. The comments were vicious until the pic came out. What happened to "good riddens" or "there is another one off the street?" This criminal was a bad seed who probably bullied the other two to commit this crime. Where you at gun supporters? You got my back, right?

Most reasonable people have a lot of problems with anyone having the firepower to mow down multiple people at one time.- NC Reader

Anybody with a car and a nearby farmers market can do that without needing a gun

Feel free to make crazy illegal, crazy won't care.

  • NC Reader Feb 12, 9:09 a.m.

Most reasonable people have no problem with a law-abiding, mentally stable person owning a gun to hunt or defend his/her home or business.

Most reasonable people have a lot of problems with anyone having the firepower to mow down multiple people at one time. The only exceptions should be for on-duty soldiers and law enforcement officers.

Maybe we do need to be more like Switzerland. The "well-regulated militia" there is actually well-regulated.

  • bubbba Feb 12, 8:58 a.m.

You bring a gun to a robbery, then you most likely plan to use it. The owner is lucky to be alive and I am sorry for all involved. But I have to say he missed the other two.

"This guy was really lucky not to be the one that's dead." - Grand Union

You're right. They often shoot the victims. Good thing he got the gun away from the criminal.

"he would be just as lucky to be alive even if he had had his own gun" - Grand Union

Luck is superstition. So maybe his luck would be the same, but his odds of survival would go up substantially. Having a means to fight back increases your chances of survival.

Remember the CRIMINAL added the gun. I suggest you read the news to see how many victims aren't just robbed. Even your LOCAL news!

Probably from the trunk of a "friends" car. In any case I would be willing to bet it wasn't registered to any of these fine individuals.

Take off that tin foil hat bubba and you'll discover the POTUS expanded the rights of gun owners by allowing them to carry in National Parks for one thing. After the current mass murder in the school, he isn't trying to take away anyone's 2nd Amendment Rights, he'll just make it take a day longer to get that gun because a background check will be required. I don't know why that is such a big deal. Postpone that deer hunting trip by a day if you have the absolute need to hunt Bambi with an AK-47. Reagan's administration did it, why is it such a big deal now? (I guess it is kind of like Reagan offering 100% amnesty to illegal aliens too) - how soon we forget.

Hey don't take Hillary's word for it just ask Rohrabacher ;)

The Taliban was a construct of the CIA and was armed by the CIA….Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher

It seemed like a great idea, back in the ’80s to– embolden– and train and equip– Taliban, mujahidin, jihadists against the Soviet Union, which had invaded Afghanistan. And with our help, and with the Pakistani support– this group– including, at that time, Bin Laden, defeated the Soviet Union. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Oct. 7th, 2009

"Oh yeah, because we want people carrying guns to be able to go into bars and drink. You must be snorting that NRA glue again." - NotFromHere

It's against the law to consume or be under the influence of alcohol while in possession of a firearm. Concealed Carry permit holders are allowed to carry because they have an established track record of following the law.

Nor does the NRA support alcohol consumption while carrying a firearm. You really don't know what you're talking about.

  • timexliving Feb 11, 6:27 p.m.

Another innocent life saved by a firearm. Thank God for the 2nd Amendment.

  • beaulahjackson4 Feb 11, 6:16 p.m.

Boy this business owner was very blessed or lucky! I wouldn't advise wresting away a firearm or attempting to do so as a general rule. It's pure luck that the robber was shot and not the business owner in a struggle for the gun. The deceased was 16 so I guess the business owner felt physically matched enough to overpower him. I am very grateful that the business owner had luck, God or an Angel on his side because this certainly could have turned out another way. I do not blame the business owner at all for taking the chance though. I pray that he will not be charged or sued for this...that does happen more than you'd think.

  • makeadiff Feb 11, 6:13 p.m.

Big questions....Do law abiding responsible members of our society register their guns? Do the criminals register theirs? How many lives would have been saved if responsible law abiding citizens had been packing at the movies, schools, malls, political rallies, and within the walls of their private homes????????????

  • NotFromHere Feb 11, 6:01 p.m.

"Seems the intellect of the criminals is a light. Should have stuck with breaking into vending machines, less hazardous and more money!"

You all forget, the first requirement of being a criminal is that you have to be STUPID. People with half a brain go to school and get a job.

"Too bad we don't have the laws the Swiss have, then YOU would be required to have a gun." - discowhale

Please don't let facts get in the way of your NRA dribble. The Swiss are not required to have guns. Those male citizens in the Swiss military serve for a few weeks per year and when they are not serving they have their uniform and firearm at home. That only applies to those who are active military. Those not in the military, which includes all women, do not have guns at home.

  • dgcreech Feb 11, 5:51 p.m.

Haha Discowhale, did you even read what you wrote? The shop owner did not have a gun (of his/her own) but disarmed the robber (who had one). In doing so, the robber was shot.

    Now do you get it?

  • Gnathostomata Feb 11, 5:50 p.m.

Now if they want to make a law that makes sense, they need to address a twenty-seven year old taking a 16 year-old to a robbery. She ought to spend time in jail contemplating that move. She walks away and the 16 year-old is dead. Not to mention the 21 year-old is now going to prison for armed robbery. She sure was a good influence on those around her.

  • EnoughWhiningAlready Feb 11, 5:48 p.m.

Just heard the mother on the news saying how her son HAD to have been coerced into this or felt his life was in danger, etc. -- the list of excuses was long. It is sad that this young man is dead, it really and truly is but he was part of an armed robbery attempt plain and simple. A fatal decision on his part and now his family grieves. Sad, sad, sad.

  • Ripcord Feb 11, 5:36 p.m.

"And the US is not the same as we were in the 1980’s….we are no longer in a cold war arming, training, and funding the Taliban to fight proxies wars for us." - WooHoo2You

We never armed and trained the Taliban. We provided money and weapons to Pakistani ISI to arm and train indigenous Afghans. The Taliban were almost an entirely foreign force and quite different from native Afghans. But don't let facts keep you from repeating this lie.

  • Dido Feb 11, 5:07 p.m.

Sad that a young man threw away his life for the chance to make some quick money. Hopefully, others will read this and think twice before doing something so foolish.

  • discowhale Feb 11, 5:01 p.m.

I think actually the problem that we are having is that cons are either terrible at reading comprehension or choose to ignore the truth. The truth here (as an earlier poster has already said) is that the business owner was not armed. But imagine that... he was still able to defend himself and his property. Poor cons, they hate it when facts get in the way.
    Unbroken

Try again unbroken, he DID use a gun. He managed to get the gun from the bad guys. Had they been smarter they wouldn't have gotten close enough for that to happen. That was there mistake. But in many instances, they do not do that and the store owners wind up shot and dead.

But if you are a typical 'lib', what you don't comprehend is the CONSTITUTION. It says we have the Right to be armed.

Too bad we don't have the laws the Swiss have, then YOU would be required to have a gun. And personally, I'd like ALL of us to have guns at home. It would cut the crime rate WAY down.

  • discowhale Feb 11, 4:53 p.m.

Wow.... someones life actually saved by a gun.

mep Really? seems that the owner used his smarts, not a gun
Click to view my profile SouthernPackerFan

So the store owner shot and killed a guy with his 'smarts'? And to think of all the money I've wasted buying guns and ammo to protect myself.

Am I a maroon or WHAT?!

  • junkmail5 Feb 11, 4:52 p.m.

9 States even allow guns in Bars? really? kinda goes against the Conceal and Carry....
    SouthernPackerFan

How? Unless the bars don't allow clothing you can conceal and carry there too.

Thankfully NC is going to pass this soon too, so that I can carry if I go to a restaurant that serves alcohol.

It's insane that somebody having a beer 50 feet away at Red Lobster means I can't carry while I have some dinner and drink water.

"For one Obama signed into law ALLOWING guns in National Parks….bet Rush forgot to tell you that one". -
    WooHoo2You

You're not seriously claiming that Obama is pro 2nd ammendement, are you?

When Obama signs a law that makes concealed handgun permits from any state valid in any other state (like driver's licenses), THEN I'll believe he's not anti-2nd ammendment.

  • WooHoo2You Feb 11, 4:49 p.m.

"Sold them 20 more of the same jet they already had 240 of them from 1980…I bet Israel is soooooooo worried. BTW, did you know Egypt (who we sold them too) is our ALLY?!?"

    Smcallah,

-You need to be fair and point out that we were allies with the Mubarak government and we knew what we were dealing with.

Yet they have not shown use much / anything to be worried about.

-The Muslim Brotherhood majority government is unknown to us, but we have kept them as an ally on good faith.

Are they right next to the ‘Shadow Government’ or the Reeducation Camps?

-Not really the same Egypt that we started out as allies with.

And the US is not the same as we were in the 1980’s….we are no longer in a cold war arming, training, and funding the Taliban to fight proxies wars for us.
