Great piece of research and writing. Inquiring minnds wonder why it was not done prior to the Republican majority coming into being.

Oh, I know, it is like the "promise checker," WRAL did not have the resources to do things like this when the Democrats were in control of the State legislature.

Most likely when the Democrats get back in control times will be hard and WRAL will be forced into making cuts so they can no longer offer this public service to us.

Of course this state is close to being a subsidiary of Duke Energy at this point as well.

It is pretty easy to see Art Pope and ALEC are running the show.

Blackwell is completely correct. He could go to the wall for Abbott, Exxon and AT&T and it wouldnt move the stock price a penny. The companies are just too large and too widely held for there to be movement based on actions of one legislator in one small state.

The biggest issue is that lawmakers Interests are to spend as much money and build as much bureaucracy to keep themselves in office. By the time the bill comes due they will be retired with a fat pension and a legacy of overpasses and day schools named after them someone else will be stuck with the problems.

*That* is the conflict of interest that has to be solved: reelecting your self by giving away borrowed money.

goobnav Leave WRAL alone. They are reporting the truth!--dream 777

wow WRAL IS REPORTING THE TRUTH? yea right -when they aren't censoring it. you sure are drunk off the koodlaid, wral is so biased that it would appear many many times wral wants to make news rather than report it. however, wral does strongly believe in it's right to CENSOR.

they do want internal control...that is for public not legislator

Why has WRAL suddenly taken such a big interest in the state legislature? They were almost completely silent when liberal Democrats ran the show for years and years. Absolutely disconnected from all of the taxing and spending. Now that Republicans are in control, everything's under a microscope.

"Someone try to convence me this isn't written like a "hit piece"."

Of course it is s hit piece. You don't seem to recall that the "@NCCapitol" gang was created by WRAL as their online hit squad after the Reps took over NC.

Remember obama said "energy prices must necessarily skyrocket," while closing down coal mines, and sending billions to South America so they can drill for us.

Someone try to convence me this isn't written like a "hit piece". WRAL pointed the "questionable finger" at Rep. Jerry Dockham, R-Davidson, House Speaker Thom Tillis, Sen. Bob Rucho, R-Mecklenburg, and Rep. Hugh Blackwell, R-Burke. NO DEMOCRATS!! Do democrats not own stocks? They even singled out Rep. Dockham with, " In the case of lawmakers like Dockham, their own judgment comes into play". Biased hit piece. All for the left-wing. Trying to make "Jane Pinsky, director of the North Carolina Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform', and her group look like caring individuals. WRAL - hit piece if I've ever seen one!!!
