"She didn't break any laws and was not arrested. So what is your problem then? She is perfectly free to say what she wants, and she did. One of the lessons that I am trying to teach my two-year old is that for every action, there is a reaction. Stop by sometime and I will be happy to include you in on the lesson (it will have to be before 7:30 PM though because that is his bedtime)."

Yep, pretty basic lesson. And yet some folks appear to have never learned it. Newton's Law of Motion applies here too. "For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction."

Where was the logic in naming someone who doesn't believe a program should exist to head up that program?

Just a quick comment about the supposed link between starting school unprepared and ADHD -- My parents spent plenty of time (when they weren't working) teaching me reading, writing, counting, etc. I started kindergarten on my 5th birthday. I never had any problems in school.

Anyway, when I started at NCSU, my adviser noticed some struggles I was having outside of the classroom and suggested I be tested for ADHD after asking me some questions. It looks like she was right.

The point is, I'm against state sponsored parenting. I also have ADHD. Yes, I know this is off topic, but I'm kind of sick of seeing people try to link the two.

"That free day care program needs to be gutted. Sounds like the right woman for the job even if she is rather looney."

What an odd statement to make. So you would want an unstable person making important decisions for Wake County and it's residents? I guess it's good that you don't make those choices for us then.

just become a Democrat Puppet,, tell then what they want to hear,, call a meeting, meet for months, only producing a politically correct opinion or statement. Call a conference in Las Vegas bring in all parties from around the country, "Democrats of course",, put together another statement, present it on TV and to the bias media, let is run its course,, and pass the final decission on to the next elected Democrat,, but that one will need more help, so he hires more Democrats to help him decide,, then after 3 or 4 years, something is decided on, "Increase taxes or goverment"...Now those are facts if you are willing to look and compare on how things are handled now of days!

  • Bendal1 Feb 7, 12:34 p.m.

Well now it's out that she has resigned after her past association and public comments against the very programs her agency supports have come to light. Why am I not surprised that Republicans appointed such a person to that position?

Not sure who you are preaching to. The left already knows this. The right doesn't care... the state could burn down, but as long as it riles up the left side, they would be delighted.

  • jcthai Feb 7, 12:31 p.m.

Morrigan, fortunately, people like Whatthehey can't run for office and get elected. McCrory knows he was elected to represent the people of NC. He will support his policies and agendas but he won't just give the finger to the 48% like the fools who post here think they can.

"Lightfoot is just a liberal attempting to hold on to her taxpayer funded paycheck while pushing her own agenda."

Ummm... Lightfoot is most definitely NOT a liberal. She's a Republican, appointed by a Republican DHHS Secretary, serving under a Republican governor. And her stated beliefs are the antithesis of every liberal philosophy I have ever read or heard of. Plus, part of what she's in the public eye for is making really derogatory statements about Obama and his cabinet.

How does any of this equal her being a liberal?

Bendal1: I predict these are the kinds of people who will be filling committee and board positions now the Republicans are in power. People who either champion the opposite position the board was created for in the first place (Coastal Management, Environmental Protection, for example), or oppose the agency's role outright as this person did. It's the Republican way!

I guess you're implying that the Democratic way is always the right way, huh? That's why we're in the position we're in now!

"Evidently the 1st amendment doesn't apply to you if you are to be a public employee."

I don't think you understand the 1st Amendment. It guarantees that you won't be persecuted by the government if you speak out (put in jail, fined or otherwise treated as a criminal). It does not say that other people can't disagree with you or call you out for making asinine statements.

  • dejavu2u Feb 7, 12:27 p.m.

  • themacs Feb 7, 12:27 p.m.

The First Amendment protects us from criminal prosecution for stating our opinions. It does not protect us from others voicing their disagreement with our opinions. It does not protect public officials from having to answer to the public for their opinions, especially when they relate to their job.

"Would your parents be willing to do this for every family who can't afford to have a parent stay at home with their children? What about those who are just cruddy parents whose children probably shouldn't be at home with them?"

Why? They're not responsible for those kids. I've given the answer to "cruddy" parents: remove the child, stop all free cash.

Spare me the poor, poor, helpless, never-at-fault Poor. We've been in a depression starting in 2007 and these fools who apparently cannot afford a baby made one anyway. They own that.

Congrats WRAL, she just resigned...., Who's next on your hit list.

100 yrs. of Dem control in this state, and in one month everything is supposed to be fixed, this Gov. doesn't stand a chance with your bias, just wish you were this vigilant with the previous administration.

"liberals jsut dont understand how it works in the USA. Repubs won and occupy the guvoners mansion and the legislative building so to the victor goes the spoil... McCrory was elected by 52% and doesn't owe any allegiance to or care what the other 48% want or think."

And that's the problem. Leaders govern the entire populace- not just the ones that voted for them.

And I'm sick to death of hearing the word "liberal" thrown around like it is some sort of mark of the Beast. Not every opinion that is different from the standard Republican line is stupid, illogical or even liberal in its philosophy.

  • Learning+Growing Feb 7, 12:24 p.m.

Actually, if she didn't have something nice to say about someone, she shouldn't say anything. My parents taught me that basic lesson long, long ago. If she is to be in charge of Pre-K, you would think she'd have this lesson already learned. And earthquakes from ultrasonic waves? Really? Tin-foil hat firmly in place, I see. Bobby Jindal was indeed correct when he said (of the Republican party), "we've got to stop being the stupid party". That's a direct quote from the Republican Gov. and likely presidential candidate in 2016.

    "
"These remarks occurred before she received the first penny of state salary, and therefore don't violate any DHHS social media policies."

While that may be true, it does make reasonable people question her because she has been very outspoken and does so in a somewhat extreme way. The past can come back to haunt you.

"Everyone in the McCrory administration better have a thick skin, because the media will give no quarter. P.S. Have you seen Hillary lately? Nuf said."

I've seen Hillary lately, she has been rather ill too. Is that statement supposed to refer to her appearance? I sure hope not, as that would be a very petty and grade school type of remark to make about anyone. If you have a problem with Hillary and her politics that's fine. Knocking ones appearance is rather childish though.

  • GravyPig Feb 7, 12:13 p.m.

"Evidently the 1st amendment doesn't apply to you if you are to be a public employee."

Any job you have, if the public knows who you are and where you work, making those kind of statements can get you in trouble.

"Especially if you don't approve of homosexual behavior. I truly hope she or Gov. Pat do not apologize for her personal comments of cause her to step down."

She is a public figure because of her position, and people don't want such outspoken people in positions that require them to be cool calm and level headed. I know I don't want someone who can't make proper choices on when to speak and when to keep it to yourself in positions like that. If you are vocal enough to create contraversy, folks are going to take notice. Your past will come back to haunt you.
