"It's a shame that, partly because of previous amnesty programs, the republicans are now in a position where they can't get elected without rewarding a huge number of people who got here through their disregard of the law. When we are building 12-ft concrete walls around our house with razor wire on top, like those in Mexico and Central America, it will be too late...maybe it already is."

The republicans painted themselves into this corner when they decided to follow the tea party.... The GOP has no interest in fixing this problem as it provides a pool of cheap exploitable labor and depresses all US wages. They will pass a few laws to make things tougher on the illegals so as to make it easier to exploit them but they will never do the one thing that would fix it quickly.....jail the employers.

A growing coalition of repubs in the Senate and House supports this because the hispanic vote lost the election for their Mormon plutocrat. How quickly they scramble to reverse their sacred principles when it's politically expedient. A little more honorable than trying to nullify the popular vote and founding principles with their election scheme, but a flip floppin sell out nonetheless.

Amnesty is not an overhaul.- lessismore

And this overhaul isn't amnesty

Amnesty would be they just waive their hands and say all is forgiven, you're good now.

That's not, even remotely, what is being suggested.

Amnesty is not an overhaul... Deportation is an overhaul....then let them line up and come in the legal way.

This is not an overhaul....it's the selling of our country to illegals....

Millions now, millions more to follow.... Reward illegals with health care, food, welfare and it will only get worse. They know what they do to our country...and for what, a vote to stay in office. These politicians will sell our country to illegals to stay in office.

This is rewarding criminal actions! Now there will be no stopping the fence jumpers, river swimmers. Reagan started this invasion by giving amnesty while he was President. Our government rounded up non citizens after WW2 so returning soldiers could find jobs, millions of them, why cannot it be done NOW? It is not that difficult to find them, just attend and illegal protest rally, thousands can be arrested. Every time I see one of them brag about being illegal and not afraid of being deported, I wonder how they can break the laws of the USA and get away with it and I get arrested and punished for breaking our laws. Different laws of course, but US laws still.

First of all, the may be 11 million illegals, but NOT ALL of them will qualify for the residency. They should have a good criminal record. Second, if they where getting warefare, they should pay it all back. Third, the people who have been waiting for years, should be the first to qualify. It's just plain rediculous for them to wait 15 years to the resident card.
