I say who ever is found to be responsible needs to be shot in the stomach ,and left to die, as they did for this poor dog. NO SYMPATHY FOR THIS KIND OF ACTION..Praying for the soul of "Mama" and for the puppies she left behind.

  • jackal10782 Jan 31, 2:13 p.m.

I am not saying the dog deserved to die in any way. But out of everything horrible something positive must come out of it. Perhaps, this dog died to remind all of us to handle our dogs in a responsible manner. The dog had to be running loose to get shot, otherwise the owner would have been there to defend the dog. When your dog is running loose, unsupervised you as the owner are responsible for the dog. Maybe the reward should be out for the owner who allowed the dog to run loose. The dogs owner has not come forward to my knowledge. If that was my dog I would come forward to give the dog a proper burial.

Just because it was part Pit does not give it a death sentence, If she did attack, there could of been many reasons, 1) if she had puppies she could of been protecting them, however, there have been more animal cruetly issues lately, there is a story about a dog whom was also found shot wandering with her sister, a rescue group save them both and they repaid the favor and saved a person from dying, the breed of them are Rottiweiler, shepherd mixes and they are the sweetest loving dogs. Do some research the top dog that actually bites but it is never reported is a Dachshund, but the news only reports when a large dog bites...... any dog can attack, its all based on how it is treated.

"It was part pit bull. I'm sure it attacked something. They are the most dangerous dogs ever and should be illegal." - Monkey_Joe
    Exactly!!!!!!!!!

"It was part pit bull. I'm sure it attacked something. They are the most dangerous dogs ever and should be illegal." - Monkey_Joe

Really? Because it sounds to me like a human with a gun attacked the dog.

  • proud-bleeding-heart Jan 29, 3:56 p.m.

    Anyone caught yet?

  • jannann Jan 25, 12:11 p.m.

This is just so sad. I cannot believe how cruel some people can be. Animal cruelty laws need to be much harsher AND enforced. I hope they find out who did this. Something tells me this wasn't a defensive move on someone's part. If it was, I think they would have reported it.

    Cowards. That is all.

  • Strawberry Letter 23 Beth Wilson Jan 24, 4:36 p.m.

    oleguy,

That's your property and you have every right to feel that way and handle things, however you want on your property. I feel the same way about children on our property. JUST KIDDING! (I'd never hurt a child).

  • Strawberry Letter 23 Beth Wilson Jan 24, 3:32 p.m.

Just to clarify.......(For one thing, I can't spell)........

Anyway, if a dog is barking at you, at a distance (in a yard for example) and NOT coming at you, then the dog should not be shot. I'm talking about ONLY in cases of a dog running at you, barking and you fear for your life. Should a Yorke be shot, if he/she is running at you and barking? NO. You can always (unfortunately) kick a Yorkie away, but a bigger dog, in my opinion, poses more of a threat. Deadly force should never be used, unless a dog is actually approaching you. (I'm sure I have a ton of spelling errors, no matter how much I check, I just miss them).

  • Strawberry Letter 23 Beth Wilson Jan 24, 2:31 p.m.

    I wonder how this happened?

ANY dog that runs at your, barking or growing, should be shot dead. Absolutely. However, that doesn't seem to be the case here. So sad!

    Moderators: POST THIS! It'll pass.

Look for "pit bull puppies ready for new homes!" on Craigslist with Rocky Mount phone numbers. Start the investigation there.

  • randaheinsohn0323 Jan 24, 12:33 p.m.

This breaks my heart, and I will never understand how people can be so cruel to such amazing animals. Hope they figure out who did this quick!

  • fishon Jan 24, 12:19 p.m.

But this dog suffered a very slow and painful death. That's cruel no matter what the circumstances of it being loose.
    Curious

    Agreed

  • proud-bleeding-heart Jan 24, 11:46 a.m.

Unless they know who the owner is, that picture was taken after the poor creature was shot. HORRIBLE!!

  • proud-bleeding-heart Jan 24, 11:42 a.m.

"Granted this was a public park, but as far as my property goes, stray dogs get shot. I'm not waiting until they bite a child or kill my livestock. If they mean so much to the owners then maybe they should control them better."

Always a good philosophy. Shoot first. Regret it later.

  • proud-bleeding-heart Jan 24, 11:40 a.m.

"A mother dog would never leave her puppies to go running around a park. I imagine her owner took her to the park and shot her, leaving her to die. How sad for her. The depth of human arrogance and cruelty never ceases to astound me."

I agree and it infuriates me!

  • CuriousT Jan 24, 11:37 a.m.

"Rocky Mount Animal Control: City ordinance specifically forbids dogs from running at large. This "leash law" requires dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash or on their own property at all times." fishon

This is true of Raleigh too. But my dog has been "jumped" while on a leash, 3 times in my apartment complex by dogs whose owners thought they could control their dogs with commands........NOPE.

Ron White is right. "You can't fix STUPID."

But this dog suffered a very slow and painful death. That's cruel no matter what the circumstances of it being loose.

  • topfan4unc Jan 24, 11:36 a.m.

I agree Zoey0815......no telling what happened to the puppies either......so very sad.

  • Scubagirl Jan 24, 11:34 a.m.

"And this is news why? lazyrebel"

BECAUSE it's an horrific act and the shooter DESERVES punishment for FELONY ANIMAL ABUSE!!!

Animals cannot speak so we, humans, must speak for them. Those who are saying "it was running around loose so shoot it" Well, IF you had a pet (hopefully you do NOT) and it got loose, how would you feel if someone shot it just because.

    smh

  • Zoey0815 Jan 24, 11:29 a.m.

lazyrebel - I do care for animals more than people. I wholeheartedly and proudly admit it. In fact, I even like my chickens more than I like most humans. What you see is what you get. And when treated with kindness and respect, they are far more likely to do the same. At least they don't walking around claiming their superiority to every other creature on the planet.

  • Zoey0815 Jan 24, 11:26 a.m.

  • clover1019 Jan 24, 11:17 a.m.

such a sad story :( the murderer could have brought the dog there and shot her. where does the story say she was running around? regardless they need to be found! lazyrebel-i feel bad for you, obviously never knowing the loving companionship dogs offer. Homeless get nothing from me. Unless they have a dog by their side-then i'll happily hand over a bag of dog food.

  • schooldoctor Jan 24, 11:14 a.m.

The judgement of perfect people is absolutely amazing. I guess it is not possible that the dog was secured and escaped, this has happened once or twice in the real world. I have even had some of my kids break the rules but I didn't shoot them.

  • jlh4jdj Jan 24, 11:11 a.m.

common tater- Judging from your comments you have never been around many dogs or humans. However you believe everything the media says. Good for you!~

  • beachbum1 Jan 24, 11:02 a.m.

    And I think it's Susie's Law...you're slightly confused.

  • Jan 24, 10:37 a.m.

"How many of you animal rights people will give money to the homeless guy holding the sign?"

Mmmm...most of us, lazyrebel (good name for you by the way).
And I care a lot more for an animal than I do for people who
would shoot it in the stomach.

  • common tater Jan 24, 10:31 a.m.

This large dog, capable of killing a human, was apparently running loose...surely the owners have some culpability here. As for the comments about doing the same thing to the human...how about when a vicious dog kills or maims someone...shouldn't the same thing happen to it's owner then?

  • kermit60 Jan 24, 10:30 a.m.

What ever happened to SOPHIE'S LAW..Governor Perdue signed it not to long ago, about animal abusers. so lets enforce it and find this person and follow thru with the laws. This is part of the problem, laws are made and not being followed thru. so sad, find this joker

  • eyesofgreen Jan 24, 9:35 a.m.

Bad thing is whoever did this will probably go on to do something worse. Thank you Caddells for caring for her!

  • Scubagirl Jan 24, 8:48 a.m.

oops.....INCLUDING jail time and a huge fine. Put some teeth into our animal abuse/cruelty laws. Time to quit giving merely a slap on the wrist to people like this.

  • Scubagirl Jan 24, 8:27 a.m.

"Do you blame the shooter or the person who let the dog run loose in a public park? kermit60"

KIND OF A NO BRAINER!!! I blame the SHOOTER! Perhaps she got out and was not LET out. geeze!!!!

  • Scubagirl Jan 24, 8:25 a.m.

how sad and infuriating! I truly have no printable words beyond being glad she didn't die alone but wishing that the one(s) who shot her receive felony charges INCLUDING

  • wewoods Jan 24, 8:10 a.m.

Thank you Nephesh Kai... All life should be respected, its life for Christ's sake. Its part of our planets cycle of life and if that cycle is broken, so is life...for all life.

  • lisa4 Jan 24, 8:08 a.m.

What a sad story. I am glad Little Mama was not alone when she died. I am glad someone found her and she knew someone cared. I surely hope they find out who did this. Pray that her little ones are safe. I agree Nephesh Kai....animals do have more compassion than some humans!!!

  • DontVote4LiarsCheatsOrThieves Jan 23, 8:49 p.m.

SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND why we have become such a lily-livered society that we no longer do to criminals what they did to their victims, even if their victims were just animals.

Animals have a heart - they make choices, they think, they feel, and some have far more compassion that some humans seem to, so why are they considered so expendable to some people?

Things have to change, because what we allow to happen to them will one day be turned on us - in fact, it's already happening.

When you note story after story after story of horrible acts people inflict on other people nowadays, what is our future going to be like, for heaven's sakes?

Praying for this furry girl's puppies, although with what some beast(s) did to her, is there any hope for her puppies. Probably not! sob

  • Terkel Jan 23, 7:27 p.m.

Glad she at least had some comforting humans and a merciful end.
