"Apparently an illegal gun was used in both murders...gun laws failed to stop the crime."

Yes, it is shocking that the laws prohibiting the feds from tracking private sales of guns and who owns particular weapons somehow didn't track who owned the weapon.

Here is a little idea. How about we actually track ALL gun sales and ownership so we could have a chance of keeping some of these weapons out of the hands of minors and criminals. Someone sold these fine upstanding young men a weapon. Unfortunately, our laws aren't sufficient to have any chance of tracking that person down.

I find the reporting of a possible high ranking gang member use to live there very possible. NC has become a hot bed for those from other countries setting up shop here. Failure to secure our boaders ain't helping this none.

(sarcastically)....Send them all back to Mexico including their born ansd raised children. That way we will have to build and maintain our own homes. That will solve the problem..jeeez(smh)

  • feistyredhead2001 Jan 24, 11:23 a.m.

Ya know what is really sad.... they had no reguard for human life,,, yet we have reguard for them!!! As far as I am concerned, it cost me for their life as I PAY my taxes! Public lawn executions should be brought back ! While they get to see the sun rise and set everyday and put hot food in their bellies... that girls family visits a cold grave site,,,, WHERE is the justice in that wake co.?

  • dejr88 Jan 24, 11:21 a.m.

I've seen some "guns kill people" comments and all I can do is shake my head. A gun goes off 1 of 2 ways.....if it is someone's hands and the "someone" pulls the trigger or by dropping it while loaded..when they should have the safety button locked. These kids knew what they were doing when they committed the crime. Let's put the gun issue aside for a minute and think of the couple who lost their lives and their now orphaned children. I hope the 16 year old is charged as an adult, and a stiff sentence for the 15 year old.

so you just made up facts in your head and then apply them to all??? wow.. let me follow suit.. all white people are married to their cousins, live in trailer parks and are secretly a member of the KKK .. see not so nice when done to you?? stop judging an entire race of poeple based on a few or their skin color
    NiceNSmooth

I didn't make up numbers. I speak Spanish as a second language, have Hispanic friends who share their stories of crossing the boarder, work with the public, and have access to information regarding legal status. Trust me. My estimation is pretty dog-gone accurate.

  • Momma2three Jan 24, 11:06 a.m.

"These are the people that helped to elect Barack Obama" Uh, no they're not. They're young teens and do not have the right to vote. This violence is not a political issue, it's a moral issue and some parents are just not doing right by their kids

    -agreed!!!

  • NiceNSmooth Jan 24, 11:05 a.m.

    1) People assume they are illegal because such a great part of the Hispanic population in NC is. I don't have any hard facts, but I know it's way over 50%. I think probably closer to 80 - 90%.

so you just made up facts in your head and then apply them to all??? wow.. let me follow suit.. all white people are married to their cousins, live in trailer parks and are secretly a member of the KKK .. see not so nice when done to you?? stop judging an entire race of poeple based on a few or their skin color

  • common tater Jan 24, 10:55 a.m.

The fix is to make sure we give them all a driver's license...so their crimes aren't limited to one area. All mass murderers are white?? Please get your head out of the sand and read the news in Mexico, Honduras, etc. Do you really want that war zone atmosphere here? The "Dream Act" should be called the "End of the Dream Act".

  • mojridingrb Jan 24, 10:55 a.m.

Crimes like this would occur less if the punishment was just, swift and matched the crime. If it even made one person from killing another by executing all convicted killers works for me.

  • kermit60 Jan 24, 10:53 a.m.

It was the gun. It dragged these poor innocent kids into that home and made them kill those people. If it wasn't for the gun they would have never done anything wrong. And if you believe that, you also believe this country isn't in debt.

They should never have been allowed to have those guns- it should be against the law! Oh wait, it already is...
More proof that criminal don't care about LAWS! Only law abiding citizens do, so why punish them? Perhaps if this dear couple had had a gun legally, they would've been able to defend themselves against these low-lifes.

  • streetglide Jan 24, 10:41 a.m.

Parents of these Children, because that is what they are, "children", should receive very harsh punishment as well,, they have not raised them so therefore suffer the faith of thier lack of being parents,, maybe , just maybe it will send a message to other slack parents!!

to quote Momma2three, "these are the people" ...

These are the people that helped to elect Barack Obama, according to the media, and who the Republican "Party" now believe they must accommodate if they are to ever win elections at the national level ever again.

Momma2three, your words are true, "God help us all!!!" The barbarians are at the gate and what remnant of "loyal opposition" that still existed, has fled.

  • OleNCNative Jan 24, 9:53 a.m.

First of all, where does it say the teens are Mexican? Every time a HISPANIC commits a crime everyone assumes he/she is Mexican. The first thing they bring up is that person's legal status. Unfortunately for you and many people like you most kids from that generation are US Citizens who were born here. Unfortunately for you they can't be shipped out of here like you say. I have to remind myself people like you are ignorant, and I shouldn't stereotype non hispanic Americans because of people like you. So far all the mass murders have been white, so I guess all white people are mass murders right?

  • Momma2three Jan 24, 9:46 a.m.

@ 4strikes, and Dnut- Thank you for the excellent advice. I actually went on my first date with my husband to the shooting range, and it scared the bullets out of me- pun intended. I am, indeed, going to research more manageable firearm options, because I do not want to be caught without one. These are some really sad times we live in right now :(

  • Momma2three Jan 24, 9:44 a.m.

@ Nephesh Kai- yes, I agree. It is so disturbing to see these young people acting in such a malicious, and evil manner. God help us all!! These are the kids that my children will grow up with, and who will be responsible for caring for us when we get old!

  • edgar709 Jan 24, 9:39 a.m.

  • Momma2three Jan 24, 9:35 a.m.

My heart is crying right now!! Not only for this family, but also for our youth! What is going on! Now, these two 'babies' if found guilty, will spend the rest of their life in prison. Gone before they even have a chance to FIND themselves. Parents please...love your children. Tell them, and show them, how much you love them!

  • driverkid3 Jan 24, 9:34 a.m.

For those of you that keep ranting about guns killing people, do this: IF you have a gun, put it up where it's safe. Watch the gun 24/7/365. Take turns with someone else if you want to, but have someone keep their eyes on that gun.

At the end of the year, tell me how many people that gun killed. I'll be patient and wait.

  • That Explains It Jan 24, 9:31 a.m.

well, fair queen, you are one stereotyping, in the truest Progressive Liberal sense. You try to establish mass murder, which accounts for less than 1% of all murders in the US, as the basis for your point. Taking a small percentage of something and using it to paint a broad brush is the very definition of stereotyping. Well done!

  • driverkid3 Jan 24, 9:27 a.m.

    goncampn2::::Were they here legally?

I seriously doubt it. They are ONLY here to work for a better life for their families. At least that's what their
"protectors" want us to think. It looks like more of us are catching on as time goes by. We need to get every last one of them out of this state, and this country. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

  • Grand Union Jan 24, 9:27 a.m.

"Reality ... well, reality is the Dream Act come knocking at your door."

Lets hope so....denying teens a life just because their parents took them here as kids is not is likely to improve the chances that they do not become criminals.

  • Grand Union Jan 24, 9:25 a.m.

"Good. Legal gun owners don't have a problem with this. Now convince the bad guys to follow the rules and problem solved."

make the rules very hard not to follow and most of the problem goes away.
Criminals get guns easily because almost anyone can get a gun easily.

  • Bartmeister Jan 24, 8:29 a.m.

Ugh, my previous comments were deleted. I welcome background checks, and extensive research into someone's mental and criminal history. Most gun owners do. I spent hundreds getting my CCW and waited what seemed like forever to get it. So if they extend permits to long arms, I'm covered and don't really have a problem with it. They do have to consider that kids, early teens go hunting with their elders and have been using shotguns and rifles for years. So provisions need to be made for that. I want to buy a .22 single shot bolt action Winchester to replace one that my great grandfather handed down years ago. Is that worthy of extensive background checks? What about an AR-15? Same responsible owner, different gun. Ahh, so it's the gun that is the issue more so, not the gun. I don't disagree with most, but we have to wake up and realize that we have to address the problem at the root and that's responsible owners. Fix that and problem REDUCED, never solved.

  • Bartmeister Jan 24, 8:21 a.m.

So what...Mexican gangs sending their younger members here to commit crimes, because our laws are so much more "nicer" than theirs? Time to round them up and ship them out...and perhaps these two should live out their lives on a good old fashioned Southern work farm.

  • 321oohaw Jan 23, 9:32 p.m.

    gangstas...

  • redwolfone Jan 23, 9:12 p.m.

No gun shop owner would have sold this gun. This is a result of an out of control border with Mexico. Not saying these kids came across, but the gun did, or was stolen by a gang or cartel. Control that.

  • luvstoQ Jan 23, 9:07 p.m.

What do they mean, *They don't know how the two teens knew each other*? Didn't it say they were uncle and nephew? Someone should proofread before reporting.

When I was 15 or 16, I was worried more about whether my crush liked me.”
Unfortunately we have become a more and more violent society. Today with the array of video games that teach children to kill (and they do!) More violent movies and surround children with hate, what we can expect. At that age children have a difficult time from disguising fiction from real life. There is no one solution for this problem. Parents need to be parents and teach their children fact from fiction, Society needs to look at what their teaching our youth. No magic button for this problem.
