Biting cold keeps temps down? Who writes these headlines?

Re killing off the fleas and mosquitoes, I'll say it might work with the fleas - if their eggs aren't already dormant, but the verifiable biggest mosquitoes in the world inhabit northern Minnesota in the summer, so the freeze doesn't diminish their summertime numbers, nor size

"it's not like the air was created in the Arctic or the Arctic can claim any kind of ownership."

If the air mass acquired its characteristics in the Arctic, and then came here with those characteristics still more or less intact, I think the term fits.

Frigid Arctic Blast! Biting Cold! It's 40 degrees out, WRAL.

  • swabby01 Jan 22, 3:29 p.m.

please bring your pets inside and/or stuff their dog houses with straw so their body heat is retained. blankets absorb moisture and are not effective.

  • br549znc Jan 22, 2:58 p.m.

There is a tendency for cold weather in January. No real news.

  • submoa Jan 22, 2:05 p.m.

Arctic Air is a bit of strange term. I mean it's not like the air was created in the Arctic or the Arctic can claim any kind of ownership.

the drought will be more severe in midwest , and fairly average in NC around april/may

for NC, february will be on the cooler side, and warm up in march

  • kikinc Jan 22, 12:58 p.m.

I'm going to guess highs in the 60's this time next week.

  • Terkel Jan 22, 12:56 p.m.

Right about the pests. I saw iris blight this summer that almost wiped them out, after 5 years of deer and rabbits couldn't.

  • BigSteamnTurd Jan 22, 12:47 p.m.

I predict 70's and a fair chance of more drought around Feb First.

From there it will be off to the races and higher AC bills to go with your tax increases.

FYI, The Weather Channel predicts a Wintry Mix for Roxboro on Friday.

FYI they also predicted 3-5 inches of snow for Raleigh last week...didn't happen

  • WooHoo2You Jan 22, 12:13 p.m.

I cannot believe WRAL left out the phrase “arctic blast” in this article…now if we can just get them to stop adding the word “super” before every single instance of “storm.”

  • Holy Carp. Jan 22, 12:05 p.m.

I'm with TeresaBee on the snow or at least wintry mix on Friday. This time the ground should be cold enough for it to stick as well.

  • Phyxius1 Jan 22, 12:01 p.m.

Hurray-it's time for the fleas and skeeters to DIE!!! Hurray!!
    baldchip

Hurray to that too. I don't think people realize it takes a few days of cold weather like this to really start to kill off all the unwanted pests.
I grew up in cold weather and this is nothing but I don't want to relive my childhood this way for too many days.

  • JJ20 Jan 22, 11:41 a.m.

I definitely remember reading we'd have "spring-like" temperatures back by the end of the week... guess they were wrong! Time for some winter temperatures!

  • TeresaBee Jan 22, 11:24 a.m.

I am predicting snow not rain for Friday.

I will leave all the climate change stuff to the scientists. I do not have an education in meteorology. Just because you may not believe in it does not mean we can continue to take it for granted that change will not occur. Any who... LET IT SNOW!!

  • romneycare Jan 22, 9:12 a.m.

I have 2shirts, 2socks, 2gloves, and 1scarf. Don't need 2chainz on my tires unless it starts to get icy like last week! But I don't see any rain!! Wohoo

Global Climate Change Warming? What about variant weather patterns due to ocean temps and not a made up explanation used to extort money from people. Global Warming.....? Really, the earth is warming so its cooling and could be the coldest on record? Reason rejected in the name of science. Sad times ahead America.
