"I had a friend who was hit bu a drunk U.S.Citizen. Comment on that"
Your friend was hit by someone guilty of one crime less than the illegally immigrated drunk that caused this accident.
wwrwheel Jan 28, 5:02 p.m.
1. Sorry to hear about the incident. 2. Somebody please guard the border because the government can't/won't.
Barfly Jan 23, 2:55 p.m.
It's a shame that illegal aliens can freely kill, maim, rape, and rob innocent citizens (children too) in the US.
One incident like this is too many. Illegal aliens commit between 700,000 to 1,289,000 or more crimes per year. Illegal aliens commit at least 2,158 murders each year.
Still think it's not a problem?
LocalYokel Jan 23, 11:19 a.m.
Bad drivers cause a lot of grief. I hope the victim pulls through.
Uhavenoclu Jan 22, 7:27 p.m.
Hope he gets well soon, sorry to you and your family mommiesade2 prayers for you and all and you are right this person should not have been here in the first place and whoever allowed him without checking his background should also be charged .

I am one of Joseph Johnson's nieces and he is a wonderful dad, husband, uncle and all around great guy. This IS an immigration AND a drunk driving issue. As for the man that did this to my uncle is not a provider for and one he IS in fact an abusive drunk that should not be on an street in America or Mexico. He has a long list of offenses and should not have been free to began with. You Mr.King defending this man is a SMACK in the face to our family.
greg69innc Jan 22, 6:57 p.m.
Yes this man should be deported and the rest of the individuals that are here illegally. It is against the law and being here makes them an outlaw from the beginning so ship them back and make them go through the legal process as it should be.
greg69innc Jan 22, 6:56 p.m.
This is so tragic we can all pray and hope for the recovery of Mr. Johnson.
I too detest drunk driving and I believe if it wasnt so accessible like it is now and virtually every sit down restaurant there would be a decline in drunk driving. I wonder what the statistics were before liquor by the drink became legal.
tammyb1972 Jan 22, 6:34 p.m.
okay Marty King Joseph is my husbands cousin and let me tell you that he is a great man. He goes to work and supports his family, he is a very hard working man. You are supporting a drunk man at 5 am in the morning, do you have any morals? He had no drivers license and also had outstanding warrants for assault on females..Really....you are backing him. They need to send him back to Mexico (he is an illegal). I hope they get him with everything they can. If your in this country obide by the rules. Its people like you that give this country a bad name. Where are you from?

Thank you Grand Union, its so rare to see intelligent comments on here.
feistyredhead2001 Jan 22, 2:38 p.m.
I happen to know and work with Josephs daughter... the family is devastated by this and really... they could use prayers from everyone out there. The law needs to be tougher on drinking and driving ... PERIOD ! What ever will happen with this man will be.... I only wonder, IS THERE ANY REMORSE !
norainonmyparade Jan 22, 1:58 p.m.
The article from two days ago has his picture, so yes, he is of latino ethnicity. It also states: "The Department of Homeland Security has an immigration detainer on Ramirez-Castaneda, who is originally from Mexico and is wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on resisting arrest and assault on a female charges."
Sounds like a real winner. I don't care how they got here, if you are here illegally, you should get NOTHING. No govt financial assistance, no driver's license, no state ID. You should get arrested, deported, and blocked from ever gaining legal citizenship in the future. We have so many illegals here because there isn't much of a deterrent. Why come here legally and do things the legal way when you can come here illegally and get a free ride?
chattycat Jan 22, 12:38 p.m.
If anyone has any evidence that the other driver is an illegal alien...or even is of any specific ethnicity, please provide it. Otherwise, you're just making pre-judgments without any facts.
If you will look at and read the article from yesterday, you will see that he is an illegal. Also has outstanding warrants for other crimes. Agree with Grand Union that it is not an immigration issue, but it an issue of breaking the law by drinking and driving and the rest of the laundry list of charges!

big difference? only in your mind.

For some reason, these invaders have the idea that they don't have to follow our laws.
January 22, 2013 11:06 a.m.
Because people like the State Attorney General says they don't have to. Give all the illegal children licenses and that only says come to USA, break laws and your children will be rewarded. Get ready for next wave. Sorry for the injured man.
Hope he gets better.
DooksucksV3 Jan 22, 11:27 a.m.
It would not matter if he was driving drunk if he were not here in the first place.
DooksucksV3 Jan 22, 11:26 a.m.
An ICE detainer has been placed on him because he is illegally in the country.
The article does not need to mention his status as he has been in trouble with the law before.
icmfal Jan 22, 11:22 a.m.
ims1924: That is because the people in this country don't drive drunk.. right?
ims1924 Jan 22, 11:13 a.m.
sjgilchr/ I will bet that the victim doesn't care if he was legal or illegal. Driving drunk is normal where they come from and they come here and continue to do it. I know this because I lived in Mexico for three years.
ims1924 Jan 22, 11:06 a.m.

Dear governor, You have to do some thing about the illegals who driving and harming innocent citizens. Every one write to Pat Mccory on his Facebook page please.
jgilchr Jan 22, 9:59 a.m.
Do you know for sure he is an illegal or are you making blind assumptions because of his name and no driver's license?
myrtlebeachrock Jan 22, 9:58 a.m.
luvstoQ Jan 22, 9:58 a.m.
So very sorry - life can change so quickly through no fault of our own. I sure hope he pulls through.
myrtlebeachrock Jan 22, 9:57 a.m.
Lets all write to the new governor and pass this story to him. Mayby he will do some thing to have these illegals deported. They are just raping the welfare system as well and driving the state in debt.
ThisTooShallPass Jan 22, 9:51 a.m.
Where does the article say he is an illegal alien? Just because he has a hispanic name doesnt mean he is an illegal....
albegadeep Jan 22, 9:50 a.m.
Slow down... How do you know this was an illegal alien, or that there were prior warrants for his arrest? This isn't mentioned in the article.
Clearly the drunk driver should be held fully accountable. No license, drunk driving, hit-and-run, and fleeing police - that's serious jailtime, and he should have to pay for all medical bills, car repair (probably replacement), and, if needed, funeral expenses.
bngexpress Jan 22, 9:45 a.m.
the federal govt and the immigration advocacy groups need to be financially responsible for this man and his family (if he lives)him and his family will be forever scared by a criminal immigrant that our federal govt has allowed to grow and thrive in this country , without fear of deportation, sad!
starglow2005 Jan 22, 9:34 a.m.
Some people have no respect for human life. Wishing the very best for the Johnson family and a miraculous recovery.
DooksucksV3 Jan 22, 9:30 a.m.
Yet another American victimized by an illegal alien. This particular one already had warrants out for him. Unfortunately, even if the victim lives he has no recourse to sue for damages and could lose everything he has ever worked for.
kbird Jan 22, 9:10 a.m.
I have compassion for everyone but if u r here illegally & don't have sense enough to stay out of trouble or no more compassion for another person than this guy did then you should be locked away...not deported so you can come back in six months and do this again.
HANS FOR PRESIDENT!!!!! JK Jan 22, 9:07 a.m.
His life permanently altered by someone out doing nothing to be a productive member of a society in which he likely didn't legally belong. He had no license so he obviously had no insurance so the victim, on his way to WORK, will be financially changed forever as well. If convicted, this poor excuse shoud be given minimal food and shelter, and a job with 100% of his income used to pay for this man's recovery and medical bills. And if it's determined he's here illegally, send him home when he's done paying his debt
shortcake53 Jan 22, 8:29 a.m.
Prayers to the family. I hope with all my heart that he pulls through and recovers completely.
PanthersFan45 Jan 22, 8:22 a.m.
Really tragic to hear and its inexcusable for an unlicensed driver to cause the accident, be drunk and try and flee on foot. What's even worse is that the driver who caused this may be in the country illegaly. Something has got to change with these laws. I hope this guy can make a full recovery
Semper Fi Wife Jan 22, 8:22 a.m.
