    "Fee-based skateparks"

skateparks should be free, just like any other piece of park equipment is free, if you make this fee based then you have to employees to monitor the park, then you have pad nannies and too many rules to list.

keep skateparks free, theres more kids out there skating than there are playing little league anyways.

Lots of vagrants around Moore Square but the gang bangers are at the mall and the pedophiles are at church.

Sounds like you have some inside info.

  • Raleigh Rocks 1 Jan 18, 12:02 p.m.

    Trees, trail, basketball courts, parking

  • goalflinger Jan 18, 11:36 a.m.

    Kneejerk answers;

How about hidden wireless and constantly monitored police cameras in all park areas such as the Tobacco Trail where gangs may inhabit?

Armed plain clothed security (volunteers if need be?)randomly patrolling the parks during business hours.

Business advertising in the parks of those businesses who substantially contribute to park upkeep and security.

    Concealed/carry allowed in parks.

  • goldenosprey Jan 18, 10:03 a.m.

Fee-based skateparks and Flow-Riders. Surf Raleigh!

  • kbird Jan 18, 7:18 a.m.

If my taxes are going to be spent on something I would much rather they are spent on parks than welfare and Medicaid, neither of which do a thing to benefit me or my family who is on a tight budget and can't afford trips to amusement parks while the government pays our bills!

  • kbird Jan 18, 7:10 a.m.

Well Beth, I would suggest to you that if you don't want to see children don't go to parks with playgrounds. That should be easy enough.

  • meglorn Jan 18, 6:37 a.m.

Splashpads!!! And a nice community water park at Dix!

  • dirkdiggler Jan 17, 8:52 p.m.

I think more shade over the amenities would be great. We've been to countless parks in this area and all of them have slides and such without shadecover, rendering the equipment useless in the hot spring and summer days. Spraygrounds would be awesome! Do we even have anything like that in Wake County?

  • Student Nurse Jan 17, 8:20 p.m.

I will chime in here but more fenced in play areas would be nice for families with special needs kids that wander. I will definitely tell the city as well!

  • wrals5u Jan 17, 7:30 p.m.

Less of my coerced tax money; more money earned or asked for.

  • Terkel Jan 17, 7:08 p.m.

Raleigh is the City of Oaks. That wonderful genus with its adorable seeds should be represented in each park - someone else mentioned labeling plants and telling a bit about them. One magnificent specimen in each park would be quite commanding.

  • Strawberry Letter 23 Beth Wilson Jan 17, 7:07 p.m.

    LESS kids!!!!!!!! LOL

  • sprice7 Jan 17, 6:23 p.m.

I'll have what LEX is selling, and TRAILS. Hiking, biking, whatever - just get me outside away from this PC!

  • bubbba Jan 17, 6:10 p.m.

Tell Raleigh what you want to see in its parks

  • dmccall Jan 17, 5:52 p.m.

More mental institutions; that's what our parks need.

  • workingforthosethatwont Jan 17, 5:51 p.m.

Stop pandering to the homeless and get rid of them!

  • oleguy Jan 17, 5:47 p.m.

    free beer

  • kbo80 Jan 17, 5:22 p.m.

More spray grounds. They are the greatest for people on a budget.

  • LEX Jan 17, 4:57 p.m.

A building for skating, a walking area, jogging, park benches, a section for a families to grill and have a picnic, basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer fields. A nice Central Park type park, just a little different than New York.

  • tayled Jan 17, 4:40 p.m.

OK, for the new Dorothea Dix property park espeically, I would like to see a historic trail where people, especially young people, can learn about Raleigh's role in the Civil War, seeing that Sherman's troops camped on the site. Make it fun, entertaining, and educational.

  • mmtlash Jan 17, 4:26 p.m.

I think it would be nice if they put a few water fountains (for drinking) along the greenways...they'd come in handy in the summer

  • NC_interest Jan 17, 4:21 p.m.

I'd like to see more adult fitness on the Greenways, like pull up bars and stuff. For the conservatives that want lower taxes. Move to one of the red counties that don't have quite as much businesss, but plenty of angry attitude.

  • Cleanup on Aisle Cool Jan 17, 4:18 p.m.

Zip Lines! (Seriously - i'm the first person to suggest this???) A Land-Luge course! A lazy river! A surfing river like they have at the Englisher Gardens in Munich!

  • BlahBlahBlahBlahBlah Jan 17, 3:52 p.m.

    Oh...and nature Trail....with plants labeled...etc...

  • BlahBlahBlahBlahBlah Jan 17, 3:51 p.m.

Trees-Flowers-Birds-running trails...picnic tables...water fountains....basket ball you enter..Benches...playgrounds....trash cans....doggie trash containers. ..signs that say you will be fined for littering and for leaving your dog's business in the park...

  • superman Jan 17, 3:51 p.m.

Vending machines that sell beer and cheap wine. How about dont do anything and save the money and cut taxes! Thats a new idea for the city council.

  • dwntwnboy2 Jan 17, 3:45 p.m.

I personally would like to see RPD start to ticket those who park at Pullen Park all along Western Blvd and on the greenway. It's not safe and have seen too many close calls and been involved in one VERY close call of an accident because some soccer mom was too lazy to park where she was supposed to park. There is NO shortage of parking, you just have to walk a few more feet- and since you are going to a park anyhow, those few extra steps should be welcome addition to the fresh air they are there to get to begin with.

  • collint Jan 17, 3:21 p.m.

"Up on Dix Hill, I think the homeless population would want some nice covered shelters, a few grills, and a restroom. Same for those wandering the streets with their mental illness going untreated. After all, it's their park too."

Since the homeless are not paying taxes, why would we spend money on them to come invade our park? Hopefully they stay out.

  • Fun Jan 17, 3:02 p.m.

Yes 24 hour police patrols on horse back in all parks and on trails

  • Fun Jan 17, 3:00 p.m.

Please libs, dont be wasting water resources on sprayers- driving up our cost of what necessary for life. Plus they will have sell and repurpose the funds driving up fees and taxes

  • glo Jan 17, 2:57 p.m.

A lot of mounted police, these days.

  • jld814 Jan 17, 2:54 p.m.

  • fishon Jan 17, 2:43 p.m.

Concealed Carry for those with a permit in all the parks and greenways.

  • admyank Jan 17, 2:38 p.m.

I would love to see more parking.

  • Reformed Liberal Jan 17, 2:34 p.m.

Interactive art sculptures. Amphitheaters. Plenty of green space for picnics and shows. I don't think more spraygrounds are wise until we resolve the yearly water shortages, unless they are indoors.

  • Barfly Jan 17, 2:33 p.m.

Up on Dix Hill, I think the homeless population would want some nice covered shelters, a few grills, and a restroom. Same for those wandering the streets with their mental illness going untreated. After all, it's their park too.

  • krimson Jan 17, 2:29 p.m.

While the Downtown Amphitheatre is nice, it would be really cool if one of our parks had a nice medium-sized outdoor theater similar to Koka Booth. We really enjoy the natural setting, great acoustics, and family-friendly atmosphere out there...

  • zenonx6 Jan 17, 2:26 p.m.

looks like we're all in agreement that there is becoming way too much of the lower element...I suggest mandatory birthcontrol.

  • zenonx6 Jan 17, 2:25 p.m.

    Or open carry one!!!

  • zenonx6 Jan 17, 2:25 p.m.

    Less lowlife on the greenway.

  • atc2 Jan 17, 2:22 p.m.

art, new types of playground equipment and TENNIS COURTS in every park!!

  • determined2win Jan 17, 2:11 p.m.

Gang bangers can't be at the mall without parental guidance....

  • redapace Jan 17, 2:00 p.m.

"Fewer vagrants, gang members, and pedophiles..."

Lots of vagrants around Moore Square but the gang bangers are at the mall and the pedophiles are at church.

  • determined2win Jan 17, 1:56 p.m.

Fewer vagrants, gang members, and pedophiles...

  • pooodaddy Jan 17, 1:56 p.m.

I would go on the green ways if I didn't feel like I would be mugged!

  • pooodaddy Jan 17, 1:54 p.m.

    cotton candy machines!

    No crime

    No clowns

  • xylem01 Jan 17, 1:54 p.m.

MAJOR roller coasters (Plural), MAJOR water slides (Plural)~!

Why can't we have a major amusement/water park HERE instead of 2+ hours away?

  • working for deadbeats Jan 17, 1:48 p.m.
