Jblake, here's a simple question: Why do you even look at Triangle forecasts, when you're obviously not in the Triangle? Isn't there a news/weather outlet closer to your actual location?

Light rain today, huh. Been raining pretty hard most of the day in my county. Forecasting still needs some improving, folks.

Yes, NeilNBob, weather does play a part - the viruses that cause flu and colds are partial to cooler temperatures and don't survive well at warmer temperatures, which is why they typically only infect the upper respiratory tract. It's too warm further down. So, if you're outside in the cold air long enough to get a good chill, two things happen - your immune response is impaired, and the environment in your nasal passage becomes favorable for respiratory viral growth. If you happen to be exposed to a virus at that time (or if there's a dormant one hanging around), it's likely to get a pretty good foothold. If you think about it, the body's defenses all conspire to warm up the environment - you run a fever, your nose gets stuffy so cold air can't get in, you feel bad so you stay inside. If you feel a cold coming on, the best thing you can do is hit your nasal passages with a blast of warm, dry air. I use a hair dryer. It works EVERY TIME. :-)

Really, weather now causes flu and colds?

It was lovely out. I like it when it is warm but a little snow would be nice too. Just cant please me!! :)

Football kept me inside most of the day yesterday but when I did venture out there were plenty of shorts & T-shirts on. Looks like reality will settle back in starting tomorrow.

And who wonders why we have a flu pandemic going? - BullStewForYou

Yep, this weather is why.

Well I hope that all those folks who were expecting rain for the weekend were able to use their umbrellas to keep from getting sunburned. ;-)
