"Good. Now North Carolina can move beyond the good 'ol boy Democratic backroom network and progress into the 21st century"

LOL!"progress" and "21st century" do not belong in a sentence about a republican administration.

  • TVs_Deceit Jan 11, 7:58 p.m.

Good. Now North Carolina can move beyond the good 'ol boy Democratic backroom network and progress into the 21st century.

  • Nancy Jan 11, 7:44 p.m.

"id Bev do her friends some favors? Didnt one of them go to jail? Now what were you saying?"

So true. Worse, she put a lot of life long politicians (no experience in the real world with budgets and management) into plum spots doing little work.

Waste beyond belief. No complaints from the peanut gallery then.

  • Nancy Jan 11, 7:41 p.m.

    The whining continues, I see.

@ Sherlock...do you want to guess how much Obama's festivities are costing?!? goes Both Ways...it's elementary, my dear Sherlock.

    Really?????
    A Liberal
…someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without
rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people--their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties--someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by
“a liberal”, then I’m proud to say I’m a liberal.

  • toothtek22 Jan 11, 6:52 p.m.

It sure is good to see things change in state government. I'm glad the good ole boy network has finally ended.

I sent Art Pope my Xmas Wish Letter.

  • Sherlock Jan 11, 6:21 p.m.

Wow, spending all that taxpayer money and they do not get to attend. The money could be put to better use. Buy food for the homeless would be a great start.

  • justthefacts Jan 11, 6:16 p.m.

The problem with Pat McCrory has little to do with his political affiliation. Based upon reports from many people who were unfortuante enough to have had to work with him in Charlotte and from several law enforcement officers who have been assigned to his "security patrol", he is simply a very arrogant and difficult man. He doesn't have the ability to see outside his little box so he can do little to bring the people of North Carolina together for the greater good. But I don't think that is what he is interested in doing anyway. He is in this to promote his own interests and the interests of his cronies. He has always desired to be "Big Man on Campus". Hopefully, his ability to indulge that desire will only last four years.

  • Terkel Jan 11, 6:11 p.m.

"Did Bev do her friends some favors?" Crumps Br0

Yes, she hired a crony for $170k IIRC to run the schools when June Atkinson had been elected to do that. Atkinson sued or threatened to, and kept her position and authority, but I believe crony stayed on payroll.

    I surely did.

I hate government waste, no matter whose doing it.

Who's paying for the security at these parties?

Bet ya the tax payers are covering the cost of security. I'll wage they are covering other cost too.

WLDPIG- go whine somewhere else. Did not see you whining when the joker did this.

  • ncrepublican1776 Jan 11, 2:50 p.m.

Waited a long to time for this celebration!

  • WLDPIG Jan 11, 2:10 p.m.

yea, he's already spending you tax money giving raises to his high cabinet holders...what about the rest of the state's employees! he's gonna be worst than purdue ever thought about being..huh

  • free2bme Jan 11, 2:03 p.m.

    Crumps Br0ther
Sorry, I actually have things to do other than critique and spell check blogs for a living. I think you are earning a spot on McCrory's cabinet.
Regardless, I hope this Gov makes a needed change in his choices and that he actually does some good for NC.

  • xylem01 Jan 11, 1:36 p.m.

Did no one read the first paragraph where it states: "About 3,500 people are expected to attend, and the proceeds raise money for charity."?

This is put on by the hard working women of the Junior League of Raleigh.

  • Common_Sensey Jan 11, 12:43 p.m.

"Three days of celebrations? I thought that he was against government waste. So how much is this costing us taxpayers???"

Scarlett2, did you even read the story? Most of the cost is being paid by private companies, AND THE proceeds go to charity. Besides, this has happened over the past few decades when a new Gov gets into office. Your concerns are baseless..

  • pbjbeach Jan 11, 12:31 p.m.

mccorker is mearly just another highly paid coporate shill an he will be totaly worthless as the governor of this state as was his predesesser was. what pure waste of funding of the states taxpaying citizens

  • scarlett2 Jan 11, 12:30 p.m.

Three days of celebrations? I thought that he was against government waste. So how much is this costing us taxpayers???? Why do politicians need parties/inaugural celebrations? I don't get a party or a ball when I start a new job.
He's already shown that he lied about his plans for NC, giving his cabinet a 11% raise. Politicians are all liars when they run for office. It's all a game to win votes then they do whatever they want, spend whatever they can.

  • Crumps Br0ther Jan 11, 12:10 p.m.

So you want to hold Pat to his word but looked the other way when Bev was playing governor. She was so worthless her own party abandoned her

  • Crumps Br0ther Jan 11, 12:09 p.m.

Raises for what? HAve they even done any work yet? This new gov is awful already. Wasting money already on his friends.
    unclegrits

Did Bev do her friends some favors? Didnt one of them go to jail? Now what were you saying?

  • Raleigh Rocks 1 Jan 11, 12:08 p.m.

gritty, I have not ever ignored the debt, and I do not think overall the republicans have ever ignored it either as a whole. Please support your theory.

Also, the size and the rapid increase of the deb should make anyone who was a bit non caring change their ways and care a bunch!

I do know that it seems libs don't care about the debt at all, as the debt has risen $7,000,000,000,000 under Obama,(and growing) and he was reelected. Which shows true hipocricy. Again, the subject is the debt. Oppose it getting bigger or do not, regardless of the leadership. If you were not outraged by things like solyndra, then just hush up about any other, because it proves partisan politics and not principled economics.

  • BullsEye Jan 11, 11:55 a.m.

McCrory gave his cabinet members an 11% raise. He said "they need to live" as if the $121,000 per year wasn't enough.

  • abaugh Jan 11, 11:52 a.m.

Three days of celebration? I thought he was against government waste and spending? Oh, wait, that is only when it is spent on the citizens of North Carolina.

  • Common_Sensey Jan 11, 11:47 a.m.

"Just like Rebulicans ignored the debt by W but once Obama became prez all of a sudden cared."

Republicans didn't ignore the debt, most of the debt was because of the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 10 years after 9/11. What would Dems do, negotiate with the Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists? Well, I wouldn't put it past them....LOL

  • OGE Jan 11, 11:42 a.m.

While i'm not a big fan of this guy I do wish him all the luck in the world to lead this State.

  • unclegrits Jan 11, 11:41 a.m.

    "Privately funded"

Makes it even worse! Now we have the new gov being given parties and they will in turn expect influence from him. Is this the conservative change we want? No!!

  • unclegrits Jan 11, 11:37 a.m.

"Therein lies true hypocrisy, you can not be ok with it when your party is in but not ok when your party is out."

Excellent point. Just like Rebulicans ignored the debt by W but once Obama became prez all of a sudden cared.

  • oakcity Jan 11, 11:36 a.m.

"Yah but since this is the first republican governor in 23 years he isn't allowed to do it."

when you campaign on less spending and less government, then give your cabinet raises and party for 3 days you come off as a hypocrite.

honestly if it wasn't for the fact that mccrory is just a puppet of the GOP i would have probably voted for him, he does seem to be a decent guy with a moderate stance.

but if you're for less spending and less government, show us that you mean it from day 1.

  • unclegrits Jan 11, 11:35 a.m.

Does this man actually plan on doing any work? Party after party and trips to other states on my dime.

  • Raleigh Rocks 1 Jan 11, 11:32 a.m.

Golden pond, Stay high level, conservatives do ot like wasteful spending, even if Bush did it. You can be conservative and still have disagreements, but at the high level(Something a UNCW person would know about lol) Conservatives want a more responsible government. Why Libs do not is beyond me.

  • areyououtofyourmind Jan 11, 11:27 a.m.

I don't disagree that it is overkill. However, you better complain just as much about the presidential inauguration. Go look up how much was spent four years ago. Staggering.

  • sendusmessage Jan 11, 11:26 a.m.

Even though I mostly support the guy, I'm not sure NC's situation warrants any three days of celebrations. That's just weird, even if the Democrats instituted the tradition...

And I certainly would not want my tax money paying for nonsense like that.

  • Raleigh Rocks 1 Jan 11, 11:25 a.m.

    Good Morning,

I will answer the question Geez.....

I do not believe a lot of our money should be used for parties and such, and if there are a lot of funds for this then I disagree and disagree with McCrory doing it. He will not be perfect but overall I think he will not be a wasteful spender of our tax dollars.

Now Libs and Geez, Please answer this...why do you even ask the question because based on your liberal beliefs you should not have any problem with it. Actually, you should, if you stand on principle at all, support wasteful spending for things such as these. Therein lies true hypocrisy, you can not be ok with it when your party is in but not ok when your party is out.

For the record, I do not think Obama should spend much cash on his swearing in either.

  • wynnediii Jan 11, 11:23 a.m.

Privately funded and giving people jobs...and all you hear is sour grapes from the left. Typical.

  • computer trainer Jan 11, 11:21 a.m.

Those celebrations are being paid for by private donations, thank you very much!

  • goldenosprey Jan 11, 11:14 a.m.

Crumps Br0, what is the meaning of your "double standards" talk when your crowd criticized Obama for celebrating another victory at the polls and when your crowd squawks that the president should never take a vacation or allow money to be spent on non-defense items when your boy W spent 1/3 of his awful presidency on vacation and when he spent $ we didn't have like the Mayan calendar ended in 2008? And your latest incarnation of "presidential timber" Rmoney offered the exact same failures.
McCrony can celebrate. In fact I'd rather him celebrate than legislate, but he talked of being an outsider pushing out special interests and controlling spending -yet what is he doing?
    Conservative hypocrisy knows no bounds.

  • Lifeliving Jan 11, 11:06 a.m.

Always been done does not justify that it can not change... Have not a lot of us had to "change" our lives due to the economy? Then 3 days should be cut into one! Stop spending money that does not need to be spent! Isn't this the story we are told in the education world?????

  • Rebelyell55 Jan 11, 11:04 a.m.

Just because it's always been done, don't make it right. They're "hired" employees, not some King or queen stuff. When they're using tax dollars, and believe me there are some tax dollars being use in one method or another, and people are just getting by, it just don't seem right. If they got all that money to spend to get elected, they can pay for their own party, security etc. and not one dime of the tax payers money.

  • Crumps Br0ther Jan 11, 10:55 a.m.

THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN DONE!!! Hence, the word, "traditional"
    areyououtofyourmind

Yah but since this is the first republican governor in 23 years he isn't allowed to do it.

  • North Carolina Cutie Jan 11, 10:50 a.m.

    You are right Unbroken.

  • areyououtofyourmind Jan 11, 10:41 a.m.

    Will you people read?!?

This is the first sentence of the story, "Continuing three days of traditional festivities..."

THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN DONE!!! Hence, the word, "traditional"

  • Common_Sensey Jan 11, 10:29 a.m.

So who's the big Liberal poster on here now anyway? I haven't seen any posts recently on any story pushing Liberal values that don't have spelling, grammar, and logic errors. How are we supposed to take it seriously when it looks like it's written by an 8th grade Durham dropout?

  • Geez Louise Jan 11, 10:28 a.m.

"we've been saying the same abour Barry, but somehow you ignore all the things he does. Must be because he is a dem and protected by your double standards."

    --More deflection.

  • Geez Louise Jan 11, 10:27 a.m.

"....Proabably because its barry doing the spending, but now that we a republican governor you guys want to watch the bank account? Your doubles standards have no limits do they?"

--So your answer is to deflect the question? You still haven't answered the question. Republicans ran on a conservative fiscal policy. Why do we now have a Republican governor granting pay increases to his cabinet and buying a brand new SUV? That's the double standard. I believe we done elected ourselves a tax and spend conservative.

  • Honesty first Jan 11, 10:23 a.m.

Pat's first act as governor was to raise the pay of his appointees. That was not allowed until his cronies in the legislature allowed it recently. 11% is a little steep there Pat. What about all of the other state employees who have worked for years with virtually no increase. I also love the way you and your wife are not supporting the traditional festivities. The Junior League of Raleigh uses the money made for very good causes. Can't Ann even attend the First Ladies Luncheon. Is she going to do anything or just sit in the mansion and hide. Come on man!!

  • Crumps Br0ther Jan 11, 10:20 a.m.

You reap what you sow, suckers!
    goldenosprey

we've been saying the same abour Barry, but somehow you ignore all the things he does. Must be because he is a dem and protected by your double standards.
