FYI... There is a local gun shop on Hwy 54 just passed Woody's heading toward Raleigh. They and called "National Guns and Gear".
Someone commented that there were no places to buy guns in Cary and no mom and pop stores. Although a chain, there is also a D@ck's Sporting Goods at Crossroads.

I'm actually surprised since the new Gander Mountain just opened up in the big shopping center at the corner of Chapel Hill Rd. & Cary Pkwy in Morrisville (where the new Target is). Do they really need both of those that close together? And unless it's going in the Carolina Pottery spot - that's going to RUIN the look of Harrison Rd if they cut out some of the pretty wooded areas along the that road...not to mention how it will screw up traffic for those that live in that area! Bass Pro Shops are HUGE buildings.

I'm with 4Strikes...I can't see them in that building. The 2 I've been to are large stand-alone buildings with miles of parking. As for me2you...this isn't Walmart or Best Buy. I think there's only 50-60 in the country, and this only the 2nd in NC. They are a mom/pop that expanded. I just hope it's a full Outdoor World, not some small satellite deal...that would be very disappointing. 105k sf is on the small side for them.

The only bad thing about it beingin Cary is all the camo will have to be in shades of beige.

  • ellengraham5660 Jan 14, 3:34 p.m.

ummmmmmm......thinking CP has been gone from there for quite some time now........

  • ellengraham5660 Jan 14, 3:33 p.m.

don't understand why it is going go take THAT long to throw some fishing equipment and hunting equipment inside of a building.............

  • ICTrue Jan 14, 1:52 p.m.

Are the opening this year or breaking ground this year? I wonder...I can't see them moving into that Carolina Pottery building. Their stores are usually pretty impressive. I don't think the CP building is big enough anyway..

Are there any locally owned Mom 'n Pops stores anymore? Every shopping center & mall all over the country pretty much has the same thing!

  • sggoodri Jan 14, 11:35 a.m.

Nice! I have been disappointed in the archery selection at other local stores; I hope their selection will be as good as that in their other stores.

Actually there used to be a Gander Mtn and BPS along I-95 in Va around Richmond, but the Gander Mtn has now closed and Greentop (a local hunting/fishing store) is in it's place.

Bye bye Gander Mt. I drove 35 miles to GM last week to get an article they said they had. Got there, they don't stock the item. Hard to find anybody to assist. BPS will be much much better in all aspects. About time . Gander mt will be gone in 12 months.....

There is a Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops not that far apart in Virginia along I-95. Seems they both have plenty of business...

  • mmtlash Jan 11, 1:18 p.m.

So whats the deal? Is Carolina Pottery closing and Bass Pro taking over and expanding the space or are they going to demolish the adjacent shopping center and build Bass Pro? Or is there an empty lot/vacant office building I'm forgetting about in Harrison Square where they will be building?

  • bubbba Jan 11, 11:33 a.m.

I guess Carolina Pottery is moving or closing.

According to Triangle Business Journal, it will be located in Harrison Square, which is where Carolina Pottery is now located. I'm wondering if they are going to build a new building for Bass since it's supposed to be 105,000 sq. ft. and Carolina Pottery is only 65,000 sq. ft. It will be interesting to see exactly where it goes.

  • common tater Jan 11, 10:38 a.m.

I'm with obxbound...gotta find a new source of income. As for the Sams revamp...won't happen...have you ever seen a BPS? I'm happy they're coming but kind of feel bad for Gander. We had nothing here for serious hunters/fishers for all these years, and now they both come in 2 years? I wonder if bps would have came if Gander hadn't.

Near 40 on Harrison........either that's what is being built up by the Harris Teeter at Maynard and Harrison or they're going to revamp the old Sam's Club at Harrison and Weston.

Do they also sell guns and ammo? After the garbage the mayor of Morrisville spewed on Gander Mountain opening there it would be nice to have a store in Cary that sold guns! Lord knows we need them.

  • ThePunisher Jan 10, 6:33 p.m.

If they have any AR-15's for sale I'll be there!

  • IBleedRedandWhite Jan 10, 5:30 p.m.

This is awesome! Can't wait! Maybe they can get Tony Stewart or Ty Dillon to come out for the grand opening!!
