If no foul play is expected, why are they asking that people with information call crime stoppers? Seems like the non-emergency police number would be the one to call.

I agree with the others also. The fact that a body was found is something to be reported. Since they have not been able to identify the body someone who hears this story may have a loved one missing and they may be able to identify if this is infact their loved one. If the story were not reported they may never have known what happened and the police may never be able to identify whom this person is.

I agree with the others, this is an active LE investigation. They are trying to identify the body. The person is probably a transient with no ID. And the fact a dead human was found in the woods near heavily traveled I440 is news itself. So there. And ya'll have a happy Friday stay safe!

"Why say anything until there is actually something to say?"

Because the fact that a body was found is, in itself, news. Details will emerge as the police investigate. WRAL is only reporting the facts they know, which is better than some GOLO folks (not necesssarily in this string) who report "facts" they don't know.

@dwr1964 This is an active police investigation and, if you read the story, authorities are still working to identify the body. Did you ever consider the fact that the police department is withholding any further information so they can notify the family of the deceased instead of them finding out through a media outlet? Go get your news elsewhere if you're going to be such a Scrooge. Click to view my profile mgallen2

And this explains why there is a need to report something that there is nothing to report.....why? Why do they choose to make a 3 line report? Why say anything until there is actually something to say?

A wealth of information, as is usual with WRAL.

Lots of Homeless live in the woods along I440. I ran into an entire encampment over past the Farmers Market. There must have been 20 people living there.

The story did not say "dumped" but it is very close to where the pedestrian was hit just a night ago about a mile on down I-440 past Poole Rd. Coincidence or the Twilight Zone? djofraleigh

True and I will rephrase ... What is with all the bodies being found in Raleigh lately? Usually by body they refer to the dead and when reports say in the woods it usually means its been dumped or hidden there. Could have been a suicide, froze to death, hit by car or?? Any way its sad and prayers to the family if they have one.
