Please come back to reality. Stop blaming President Obama. The GOP ran this country in the ground during the Bush years an now Americans are paying dearly. President Obama promotes personal responsibility, he is the true example that hard work pays off. Nothing was handed to him on a silver platter. The General Assembly will likely cut unemployment benefits to pay for the mess they created. They seem to care nothing about regular working, middle class or poor people.

  • GK N.Ral Jan 9, 1:54 p.m.

Can't survive on unemployment benefits? You know the answer.

  • goldenosprey Jan 9, 1:15 p.m.

Don't you get it? Lower benefits and slash benefit periods, then displaced workers will have no choice but to accept lower wages and poorer working conditions. Keeps wages low for everyone. Has nothing to do with moochers. If it did, they would go after actual moochers like Big Agri Business, Big Pharma and the mythical welfare queen. All part of Pope's plan.

  • lprop Jan 9, 12:15 p.m.

Instead of looking at the unemployed who did work and are only receiving unemployment while they look for a job they need to look at the ones who are on welfare and don't want to work. Wake up educated leaders.

  • WooHoo2You Jan 8, 7:59 p.m.

the company I worked for was able to CHEAT ME OUT OF MY DISABILITY BENEFITS AND WORKER'S COMPENSATION...and no one cared....- dollibug

The GOP says companies should not be "burdened" with regulation and oversight...something that might have helped you. How is that working out for you again?

  • WooHoo2You Jan 8, 7:56 p.m.

When is the last time you heard him say we need more jobs?....... He doesn't even speak of jobs anymore....just welfare and unemployment.- lessismore

Maybe you should get your news from more than just blogs, youtube, and 106.1 if you want to hear that. Sorry Obama (or anyone for that matter) can't make you actually pull your head out of the sand and see the real world!

  • junkmail5 Jan 8, 7:56 p.m.

.Obama has expanded ever welfare program on the books. -lessismore

    No, he hasn't.

Food stamps began climbing when Bush took office 2001 FYI

  • WooHoo2You Jan 8, 7:53 p.m.

Whoohoo2you.....Obama has expanded ever welfare program on the books......he loves unemployment. He loves welfare....it got him re-elected. He wants to expand welfare and bring down the middle class and put as many of them on welfare as possible.- lessismore

If that is the case why do red states (republican) use more "entitlement" dollars per person than blue states (democrat)? Bet you can't answer that one....

  • WooHoo2You Jan 8, 7:50 p.m.

Woohoo2you.....name anything Obama has done to help America......you can't.- lessismore

Recession over, lower illegal immigration, better access to education, ending two wars, universal access to healthcare, protecting individual rights, expanded VA benefits....should I go on?

  • dollibug Jan 8, 7:47 p.m.

Perhaps the NC General Assembly should just CUT PEOPLE OFF COMPLETELY FROM WORKER'S COMPENSATION AND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS ALSO....I was wrongfully denied my claim for worker's compensation and then I was laid off of my job 2 days after I had surgery....the company I worked for was able to CHEAT ME OUT OF MY DISABILITY BENEFITS AND WORKER'S COMPENSATION...and no one cared.....how exactly do these people think people can LIVE???????????????? Perhaps the government needs to *REDUCE THEIR OWN SALARIES, benefits and perks....*share the wealth*....I think is what the prez said needed to be done...

Whoohoo2you.....Obama has expanded ever welfare program on the books......he loves unemployment. He loves welfare....it got him re-elected. He wants to expand welfare and bring down the middle class and put as many of them on welfare as possible. He wants to bring the middle class down...he knows he can't make rich poor ....it takes too much of his vacation time to fulfill that wish. He wants to raise taxes on everyone who works....don't want to pay taxes....join his welfare army. When is the last time you heard him say we need more jobs?....... He doesn't even speak of jobs anymore....just welfare and unemployment. Simple minded people can not see his agenda, patriots see every harmful executive order he issues...he wants everyone poor....can't you see that? He has done nothing to help this country...and I am not talking about free abortions, sex changes, and gay marriage.

"There are plenty of people with H1 Visas working, no Americans to fill the jobs??" - gingerlynn

H1-B Visas - which is basically indentured servitude because the forigner can not change jobs - is a scam pushed by large corporations to have a cheap IT workforce and not hire American citizens at open market salaries.

How to fix the H1-B Visa system? Simple - allow Visa holders to take any job in the U.S. during their Visa period. This will restore the open market for IT salaries. Employers who pay properly will get the best employees.

  • WooHoo2You Jan 8, 6:40 p.m.

    whatelseisnew,

-You are conveniently leaving out the fact that millions of people have been removed from the labor force as if they do not exist.

The only people "removed" are those who are NOT seeking employment. Why would we count someone as looking for work when they are NOT looking for work???

    - As to Obama's policies, except for the debt and unnecessarily high fuel costs, we have not yet experienced most of his policies.

    1) Those are not "polices." 2) Those are not new. 3) And the "soon" argument is getting old....still waiting on Y2K and the new world order that I have been promised were "right around the corner."

"They should 'fix' this problem by increasing the insurance premium to employers" - westernwake1

'Yeah, right, nail the employers. Sounds like a great policy.Didn't think you were "one of them".' - retroconsultant

Unemployment is an insurance paid by employers for the privilege of doing business in a state. By contract this insurance was for a period of 26 weeks at a payout level that mirrors other local states. While I can actually understand reducing the payment in North Carolina to align with neighboring states. The reduction of the number of weeks to 12 is obscene.

Employers should actually be screaming at the state government that unemployment insurance is a contract and the state is violating it.

Unfortunately the employers need to pay more for each employee to payback the federal loan.

The employers should be screaming at their local Congress person that the Feds should forgive the loan because absurd Federal policy caused this problem.

Yep the ill informed blame bush for these collapses. His main failures was not securing the border, spending and not doing enough to undo the harmful policies and regs that were implemented by Clinton and the Dems. In fact, he did next to nothing to try to stop the subprime lending and the loose monetary policies that set the table for the collapse. But the bulk of this is on the Dems. Obama does not hold much responsibility because all of that happened before he was ever a Senator. His spending policies are murderous and you have only just seen the first salvo of tax increases. Much more to come both direct and indirect like the taxes in ObamaCare.

"Every other modern nation on earth has managed to provide comprehensive care for its people, at a FAR lower cost than the US spends now, with generally equal or better results.

Why do you think the US is incapable of doing so?"

Government corruption and cheating and fraud from consumers and providers. Government already controls the lion share of health care. The result has been rapidly rising costs. The care itself would be cheaper if you were only paying for the service you received. However, due to the insanity of Government you are paying for an unknown number of patients.

I guess you have not noticed that the leetil OBamaman raised your taxes. Guess he thinks everyone earning an income is rich.

The reality is the Dems left this State in miserable financial shape and it will take some time to repair the damage although I have yet to see this legislature get serious about cutting spending. Now instead of cutting unemployment they should eliminate the pre-K babysitting and the EITC and any other beggar-class handouts they get cut or stop. Undoing damaged caused by lefty foolishness is often difficult, but it can be done. Maybe we can get the lefties to go whine in another State and enjoy paying high taxes. Pirate1 - sounds like you have an issue with understanding what people have written. Why would anyone move closer to a job they were going to lose? Why would they take a job knowing it was going to end in a few months? Because he didn't know. Sometimes you get laid off unexpectedly. That's the harsh reality of having a job in today's corporate climate where there's zero loyalty.

" it is the so-called job creators who refuse to provide health insurance for their workers or pay them a living wage where they can buy their own."

There's nothing illegal about either aspect. Should the employer provide auto insurance too? How about groceries? Why not? Health insurance isn't a right and it has never been mandatory in any state I've worked in. Why do you think someone else is obligated to provide health insurance to you? Just answer that.

Perhaps if these longterm underemployers would offer an actual living wage for these available jobsm and quit hiring off the books or offshoring the others, we would not need millions of illegal immigrants.
