" He will be a puppet for Charter schools and home schooling."

    LOL

Not a puppet for the might home school juggernaut! What could be more sinister than being controlled by moms' at their kitchen tables.

    Lose your preposterous fear mongering.

  • Skywatch_NC Jan 8, 10:57 a.m.

For those here chiding Lt. Gov. Forest as he hasn't even been in office a full day yet. Ya'll just have way too much fish to fry.

  • Honesty first Jan 7, 7:39 p.m.

Little Danny ran on his mommy's name, money and friends. If you really knew him you would be scared to death, even though he has little power. Any power in his hands is really scary. He will be a puppet for Charter schools and home schooling.

  • jrfergerson Jan 7, 4:17 p.m.

the Lt. Governor might be responsible to do much - but he sure does collect a nice salary on a monthly basis. Furthermore, this story is about the Lt. Governor so any of you that feel you want to make comments about those on the Governors staff need to wait for a story about him to make any other comments. thank you for your consideration

  • jgilchr Jan 7, 3:16 p.m.

First off, the governors office in NC is not very powerful by design. The legislature is where the power is. Secondly.....money has ALWAYS been influential in politics....for as long as there has been politics. It exists on BOTH sides of the aisle.

I am not giving Liberals any pass on this either. Just because it has always been there doesn't make it right. Can't you see that is exactly the problem? We need to get the money out! Pope is now highly influential in pulling the purse strings. I think that is a very powerful position.

  • Steven Jan 7, 2:36 p.m.

I wonder how many decades we have to continue with the whining about this media source is liberal and this media source is conservative. Who cares. If you don't like what you are seeing, you are free to tune in elsewhere. The continual crying over it is frankly a waste of time.

  • injameswetrust2003 Jan 7, 2:15 p.m.

GravyPig: You are a genius! (Actually that is why I posted on this one.)

Steven: yes, you did not get my point. My point is basically that WRAL is clearly liberally biased, and for an organization that CLAIMS to WANT to deliver the news impartially, this tendencdy of being so obviously slanted toward the libs (Perdue, Barber, Obama) is contrary to unbiased media (which may be an oxymoron).

  • gingerlynn Jan 7, 2:05 p.m.

The Lt. Gov will likely be the tie breaking vote on the Board of Education after Gov McCrory appoints Republicans to seats being vacated (4 or 5 I believe). Given his outspoken ideas on charter schools and vouchers, this Lt. Gov (whether you like him or not) is likely to have more power than any in recent (or ever) history.

  • dontstopnow Jan 7, 1:55 p.m.

Steven, you do not get the point of that post. WRAL NEVER deletes ALL messages and closes a story for comments like they have the McCroy promises one. It was strange and whether this board is privately owned or not is not the point. Most people on here pay attention to out-of-norm behavior.

  • Steven Jan 7, 1:40 p.m.

"Why is the Governor McCrory blog post closed for comments? I know you liberals don't like criticism, but seriously what about freedom of speech?" by injameswetrust2003

You do understand the concept of a privately owned message board, right? They have the right to allow or not allow comments, or delete ones that are made all they want. You don't have the right to speech in a privately owned setting. You get the opportunity to do so via their good graces.

    injameswetrust2003

This is my question as well. On Friday the article about WRAL monitoring our new Governor's promises had 10 comments. This morning shortly after 8am it had 5, they had deleted 5. by 10 am they only had 3 remaining and now they have deleted them all and have the article closed for comments... so funny how they don't like it when people challenge them monitoring Republicans and not Democrats on their campaign promises..lol

So you are ok with Art Pope's purchase of power and the influence of big money in politics?

Which one? There are multiple articles about Mcrory on WRAL right now. If they have one closed, then try commenting in another.

Forest Gump, I mean Dan Forest, has to have had the dumbest campaign signs ever which read "Run Forest Run". Never mind that Gump spelled his name with two "r"s.

It was just an innocent play on words regarding his campaign signs. ;)Get over yourself, sinenomine.

  • btneast Jan 7, 12:28 p.m.

Fortunately, the Lt Gov doesn't do very much.

Except on occasion, cast the tie breaking vote in the Senate.....like when the lottery got approved.

You're joking, right? That was one of the best campaign slogans ever. Who cares if it was "Forrest" Gump? We got the pun and he got the election. So nitpicky!

  • SaveEnergyMan Jan 7, 11:28 a.m.

Fortunately, the Lt Gov doesn't do very much. How many times did Dalton make the news, at least before he announced he was running for office? Unless something happens to McCrory, Forest should follow in that long tradition of anonymity and not really hurt anyone.

BTW. Was there really any other reason to vote for Forest or Coleman other than political party? Without any real power, who cares about their platform?

The only reason I can see to have voted for this man is because he is of the same political party as the new governor. Should, God forbid, anything happen to Governor McCrory which prevents him from completing his term or discharging his official duties at least the power won't shift abruptly to the other party. It would be preferable if North Carolina's governors and lieutenant governors were to run on the same ticket, like the president and vice president, instead of the way it's done.

"this man has potential... the career politicans both demos and repubs in thier self centered arrogance will attempt to steer him in the "RIGHT DIRECTION"- HOPEFULLY he will disregard all thier efforts to control him."

I think it's already too late for that. From an earlier WRAL article:

"Forest announced Friday that campaign manager Hal Weatherman will be his chief of staff and develop policy. Weatherman previously served as Myrick's chief of staff. Former Myrick office manager Jamey Falkenbury will become Forest's operations director."

  • Skywatch_NC Jan 7, 10:50 a.m.

Boy, he's got that politican look really working don't he? Already got that mouth open and talking...making promises and posing for pictures.

Let's not give the guy a chance first to see how he'll do as that would be just asking too much.
