Tata is the states gain and Wake County's loss.

Democrats, especially those on the Wake County School board, are such idiiots.

  • tracmister Jan 4, 7:50 p.m.

Tata is a prime example of the "Peter Principle."

  • North Carolina Home Jan 4, 7:05 p.m.

"So, you think Gen Tata will discrimminate against Wake County as Sec of Transpo? Is it really a good idea to have someone like that in a position of authority?" Mr.Middle of the Road

Exactly what did the Army trust you to do?

Why do you hate Art Pope? Because he has been successful? Because he is not a liberal?

He's never been accused of any crime that has created indictment like many "Democrat" officials. He and his family have contributed to numerous charitable organizations that have benefitted North Carolinians.

Exactly WHY do you hate Art Pope?

"Could you back up your dislike of Conti or give an example Nancy? It sounds like you hold a grudge about something or is it just because he was part of Perdue's administration?" - floweasy

Conti was less "qualified" (the point so many people are trying to place against Tata) than Tata if you go by education and experience.

The grudge I hold is how poorly DOT has been operated for a long time and the waste of monies as well. Heck, even the local news pointed out their failings over the years.

  • superman Jan 4, 6:02 p.m.

General Tata wont last 2 years this time either. You cant command people unless you are in the military. You never get cooperation from your staff by being a dictator. Never read a single comment from anyone he directly supervised who said they worked for the school and was sorry to see him leave.

  • ccsmith1902 Jan 4, 5:43 p.m.

Disappointing about the Pope appointment. That is clearly getting off on the wrong foot.

  • North Carolina Home Jan 4, 4:47 p.m.

Let the DOT spring cleaning begin!

"I've also asked him to fix DMV — in a week," McCrory said with a smile.

Afraid it may take a month, Governor. It's a real mess.

  • reincarnatedasme Jan 4, 3:46 p.m.

Glad to see McCrory appoint Tata. He did a good job with the Wake School system, but the politically charged misfits fired him to flex their muscle. He will no doubt do an excellent job with the state and I wish him luck.

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Jan 4, 3:30 p.m.

The Wake Co School Board fired him.....guess KARMA is coming to pay them a visit!

  • ncrcates Jan 4, 1:50 p.m.

Tata appears to me to have failed in the School System as proved by the divisions he created and the school bus problems. And how do we repay him. We give him another job. Just because somebody is a General does not make him qualified for other thing.s

  • ddm76 Jan 4, 1:48 p.m.

Many people on here are still complaining about the school bus issues. When are you going to take responsibility for getting your own kids to and from school (ESPECIALLY the ones who say their kid only lives a couple of miles from the school)? They are guaranteed a free education. No one ever said anything about being entitled to a ride. Don't like it? Homeschool your kids. You work, you say? Tough break. Make arrangements and be responsible for your own kid.

  • Come On_Seriously Jan 4, 1:38 p.m.

  • Nancy Jan 4, 1:07 p.m.

bobbyj - you're right, degrees don't make the man, but Conti's history with DOT shows he doesn't understand asset management either, no matter his history of 'engineer' work.

  • bobbyj Jan 4, 12:56 p.m.

Gene Conti worked in the private sector as an engineer. College degrees don't make the man. Good Luck Mr. taTa.

  • heisenberg Jan 4, 12:29 p.m.

Good for Tata. Maybe this will be a job where someone appreciates his efforts.

"Is he? Certainly the behavior of the GOP to date at State level is not encouraging......... And what EXACTLY did Bev. do that was so terrible for the State? I keep hearing that she was "the worst ever" but the same people can never actually say why....." - Grand Union

Name a single major policy initiative that Gov. Perdue put into place? There is none. She is the most ineffective governor in the history of North Carolina. She failed to define and effectively promote an agenda. Bev does not have the necessary leadership skills or communication abilities to act in an executive poistion. She demonstrated a clear inability to work with the legislature (even members of her own party were critical of her).

Directly before she announced she is not running for a second term, she had the lowest ratings of any governor in the U.S.; a mere 13% of the people in the state supported her. She is the first governor in North Carolina whose own party told her to not run for another term.

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Jan 4, 10:23 a.m.

Grand Union, I could tell you what was disappointing about Bev but, you wouldn't understand it. You are blinded by your hate for a free America. They are holding a place for you across the pond. We don't want to be like Europe in any fashion. Get used to it!
    RustyDawg

So why don't you try telling him and see if he can understand it? Or, maybe you can't give any examples?

  • paultaylorsr100 Jan 4, 10:14 a.m.

Thank you RustyDawg - that guy is about as anti-American as the other left-wingers on here.

  • paultaylorsr100 Jan 4, 10:13 a.m.

Maybe now we will joint the other states against this obama death panels debacle.

  • RustyDawg Jan 4, 9:54 a.m.

  • Nancy Jan 4, 9:41 a.m.

Bev's appointment to DOT was George Conti who had degrees in anthropology.

McCrory's appointment to DOT is Anthony Tata who's past includes -
Tata has served as the deputy commanding general of the 10th Mountain Division and Combined Joint Task Force-76, where he led operations and logistics for 18,000 soldiers across Afghanistan, Fort Drum and Fort Polk. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy; a master’s degree in international relations from Catholic University of America; a master’s degree in strategic planning from the School of Advanced Military Studies; and a certification as a Harvard University JFK School of Government National Security Fellow.

  • Nancy Jan 4, 9:38 a.m.

Much better choice that the last head of DOT - who held a degree in anthropology.

Pat McCrory appoints Honey Boo Boo as Education Czar.
    SARCASTICLES

I can't wait to see where he puts John Tedesco. You know that has to be coming. They will try to hide it, but it will come out. To the victor goes the spoils!

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Jan 4, 9:34 a.m.

be interesting to see how long he last with the governor. He was hired as Supt and didnt even hold a supt's certification.
    superman

He will last just long enough to qualify for state retirement. The man knows how to play the system, give him credit.

  • sillywabbitthepatriot Jan 4, 9:28 a.m.

Maybe McRoy will come up with his own Harry Reid "nuclear option" just to pizz off you Democrats.

  • Sweetgrl3 Jan 4, 9:04 a.m.

Dems are complaining about the Repubs in NC. When Repubs complain you all tell us to cease. How about taking your own advice.

  • Sweetgrl3 Jan 4, 8:59 a.m.

    driverkid3 I agree with you.

  • superman Jan 4, 8:31 a.m.

Not sure if Mr. Tata is multitalented. Seems he can do anything and is more than qualified. He lasted two years with Wake County--be interesting to see how long he last with the governor. He was hired as Supt and didnt even hold a supt's certification.

  • driverkid3 Jan 4, 8:22 a.m.

A person does NOT have to read many of the posts on here to realize that bev's fans are out in full force. I guess walk the dog was their first choice, but he lost. Now we have a governor that is going to get this state on the right track, and they are having a really hard time dealing with it.

  • tootiefrootie Jan 4, 8:04 a.m.

Susan Evans must be squirming along with a few other Wake County School Board members. What a glorious slap in the face to those who fired him---transportation issues they claimed. Ahhh, the truth comes out.

  • Honesty first Jan 4, 7:31 a.m.

Hey herps4us2...You would not encounter any problems with the Highway Patrol in NC if you were not breaking the law by speeding as you admitted. The NC HP is a very good organization and run by a Colonel who is not only experienced but smart and very personable. I dio expect that there will be individuals who screw up oiccasionally but that is the case everywhere.

  • kpervine Jan 4, 6:12 a.m.

McC must be dummer than I thought. You trying to tell me Tata is the only North Carolinian qualified for the TS job? He screwed up one of the largest school systems in the state and was FIRED. If this is what we have to look forward to, I wasted another vote. Hands-in-pocket seems to be the usual order of business. An EX Army General did not make a school superintendent and probably won't make a decent TS. Go figure!!!! McC, get some smarts or at least be smarter than your constituents!!!!

  • zProt Jan 3, 11:20 p.m.

You know, it seems like the same person keeps writing in the same style with the same opinions in this and other threads. Either that or the populace is more homogenized than I feared.

Anyone else notice this? Does it make me a "liberal" for thinking about such things?

  • douglively919 Jan 3, 11:04 p.m.

Wow!, ..., given they way the bus schedules were so screwed up at the beginning of the school year do you think this was such a good idea? ... NOT!

  • teacher56 Jan 3, 9:56 p.m.

The firing of Mr. Tata was political and the hiring of Mr. Tata was political. Same old, same old.

  • humm61 Jan 3, 9:20 p.m.

Wonderful...he was inept as a supt. of schools and now is appointed to yet another position he has absolutely no experience in. That's the Republican Way. God help North Carolina.

  • PIBound Jan 3, 8:52 p.m.

    Well deserved!

  • injameswetrust2003 Jan 3, 7:57 p.m.

"Westernwake.....you know not of what you speak....was inside WCPSS and you have neverhad the correct facts."-tired2

The firing of Mr. Tata was clearly political. The difference is some of those on the inside liked to do things the "Wake way" and were not used to following a new ideology. At least Kevin Hill "Tata gets an A-....Tata will do fine" had the decency to step aside as board chair- talk about a lack of leadership.

  • pbjbeach Jan 3, 7:50 p.m.

I can already fore see the hand writting onn the wall another do nothing legistive session an adminstration for the good of this state taxpaying citizens i personaly think not for mccroker care not for the citizens of this ate but only for his own personal benefit along with his cloest friends an associaates for the business community an that is the truth so help me god. mccorker will be another bev just the 2.0 version of her . thank you

  • wildpig777 Jan 3, 7:31 p.m.

tata over qualified? what planet are you on? we're talking civilian here not military-- military-- qualified ///////// civilian not qualified. DISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS MISSED!

  • herps4us2 Jan 3, 7:13 p.m.

    Best of luck Mr.Tata.

  • wildpig777 Jan 3, 7:13 p.m.

wow-- meet the NEW BOSS, he's the same as the OLD BOSS.

  • herps4us2 Jan 3, 7:11 p.m.

Best of luck to Mr. Tata. After the WCPSS debacle (not of his doing), hopefully he will excel at his new job. He can only improve the way NCDOT operates. Now we just need someone to run the N.C. Highway Patrol. We need someone that's honest has dignity and treats people with the respect they deserve as long as the same respect is being shown to the trooper. The few times I've been pulled over by a NCSHP trooper for speeding, I was always very polite, without any attitude towards them. I was treated as if the interstate was his personal driveway and/or property and I was more than fortunate that he let me drive on it. Like most other state troopers I've encountered (I'm sure they're not all like this) this guy was a complete ___, It's a good thing they don't work on or for commission or customer service. If they did they'd starve. I guess my point is, this state could benefit by rebuilding the SHP. And someone with Mr. Tata's history with the military, leadership etc. would be an ideal

" At some point they do become disconnected, out of touch, and self serving." - Bartmeister

I'm pretty sure that point comes a few days into office when it becomes clear to them that they have to raise, on average, 4 grand a day, 365 days a year, while in office just to be competitive in their reelection campaigns. In that reality, they turn to the folks who are able to write checks with lots of zeros on them. All of those folks want something in return for the checks, and if they don't get it, they'll write checks to challengers instead.

Which is, essentially, bribery. I agree at this point that we're unlikely to ever get rid of it, barring a constitutional amendment that radically changes campaign finance (which is also unlikely).

Make you a deal. You work on that, I'll work on curing Cancer. I like my odds better! Somewhere there has to be term limits installed in the process. As you believe that MBA's have changed the business world, lifetime and career politicians (Byrd, Thurmond, Rockefeller, Warner, etc) cannot continue to promote the interest of their constituency for 10 terms or more. At some point they do become disconnected, out of touch, and self serving.
