I wonder what the motivation was for this?---were they put up to doing this?---the ripple affect of so many lives now ruined is staggering to think about

They all need to go to jail as adults for life!

while laughing the other day with my dad over prank calls he and his friends made in the early 1950's, I'm sure adults then wondered what the world was coming to with children making such phone calls. wonder what they would think about these 3.
my heart goes out to the man and his family he left behind. i'm sorry too for the families of those charged. horrible.

  • heelsgirl05 Dec 31, 2:57 p.m.

Release the other two kids' names and pictures. clearly their parents did not shame them much when they were younger and they need it now!

  • marciamal1 Dec 31, 2:41 p.m.

Whats wrong with these teens now adays- too many violent crimes involving young ones. I don't understand what is happening to society these days. When I was growing up, we never heard of all this - I hope they do their time so that they can have time to think about what they did to this poor innocent victim. What a shame - i wonder if they were playing too many of these violent video games that they have out there that provoked them to commit such a crime.

  • Scubagirl Dec 31, 2:31 p.m.

While not screaming, I do think she should be tried as an adult. Adult crime should equal adult time. Just the way it should be.

BUT I guess you don't read the comments huh?

After all this is a normal everyday thing in Mexico-lumberman

I did not realize all people with Hispanic last names were automatically from Mexico…

  • jackcdneh1017 Dec 31, 12:47 p.m.

Surprised no one on here screaming that the 12 year old girl should be tried as an adult and put to death forthwith. Come on death penalty advocates, where is your cry " fry this kid"? Sarcasm intended.

  • 12-21-12 Dec 31, 12:26 p.m.

I think the parents pictures should be displayed also.

  • ldestefano63 Dec 31, 11:56 a.m.

Where are these kids parents ??? Big problem in society today - parents not taking responsiblity for their kids - no discipline, no fear, no consequenes - parents should be to blame too

  • Fireflies Rock Dec 31, 11:43 a.m.

This poor man, thinking he was helping out some young kids; I feel great sorry for his life cut short and his family left behind without him. What kind of parents let a 12 and 14 year old girl hang out in another city with a 16 year old boy? Maybe they're relatives? Anyway, horrible cases in the news lately with these young kids committing atrocious murders....what on earth would compel someone to murder someone to steal his car?! Total amorality; it's frightening to think of these kids being around for the next 70 years, what's next?!

  • Crumps Br0ther Dec 31, 10:58 a.m.

There should be a law against minors owning guns! Oh wait... There already is a law. Several in fact!!! Criminals don't obey the laws of the land!
    Disabled Veteran

thats why we need to punish the innocent and create more laws for the criminals to break, its the only way to keep people safe!

    *sarcasm off*

piene2, do you understand what the word "theft" means? Take all the guns away, the people that want to get their hands on them WILL GET THEM. Do you not understand this? You should try to udnerstand instead of jumping on the "ban the guns" soapbox of the liberals.

  • piene2 Dec 31, 10:34 a.m.

" I guess you'd rather have her protected and sheltered.....
    Scubagirl"

No not at all. I believe every miscreant should be punished in the context of the severity of their crime, their mental state and their age. I should think, for the two older, life in prison without the possibility of parole and a long course of confinement and treatment for the girl.

  • pappybigtuna1 Dec 31, 10:28 a.m.

want to bet, durham will be to scared to prosecute, death penalty will be off the table, detention possibly. records esponged, young criminals usually become older criminals with our blessing -- learn to love it & live it, its your city, state and country

  • Scubagirl Dec 31, 10:15 a.m.

" My question to you is why do you feel the need to see all their pictures? piene2"

Well what I THINK is that they should NOT be protected 'because of their age' and that if they can show the 16 yo they should also show the 12 yo. And as to her being released from the hospital-GOOD! Now she can face her charges! But I guess you'd rather have her protected and sheltered.....

  • 1911A1 Dec 31, 10:06 a.m.

There are guns in the world no amount of regulation will keep them out of criminals hands , The same place they get drugs will also get them a gun.

  • 1911A1 Dec 31, 10:04 a.m.

In a few years when they are out on the streets it would be nice for people to be able to recognize them. maybe they could steer clear of them . Or keep their kids away from them . Since they'll be out before their adults.

Also, of course they apparently had no problem getting their hands on a six shooter, did they? But that is just fine and dandy, let us keep saturating the nation with hand guns so they will always be available so children can imitate the behavior of the elders.

  • Phyxius1 Dec 31, 9:34 a.m.

My thoughts and prayers to the family that lost their family member over this senseless crime. People complain how bad Durham is with crime but here are two out of three young children involved from Raleigh. They somehow came to Durham to get involved in a brutal carjacking and murder with another teen. Where were these kids parents, where did they get the gun, how did they get to Durham to start with? They all should be charged as adults and serve the time they have coming. They all were involved in taking of a life and even at 12yrs of age should be held accountable. They shot someone and left them for dead in the road.

  • PracticalMagick Dec 31, 9:30 a.m.

I absolutely agree with Scubagirl and Voodoo.

You're going to carjack and murder someone at that age? You deserve what you get.

  • airbornemonty Dec 31, 9:27 a.m.

The second they killed Mr. Villatoro they crossed the line into manhood and should be dealt in the same manner that an adult would be dealt with.

I am sick and tired of reading about these underage killers getting away with murder just because the law says that they were not capable of knowing what they were doing.

If they knew how to pull the trigger on a weapon, they knew what they were doing and murdering someone would attest to the fact.

  • JohnnyVoodoo Dec 31, 9:23 a.m.

If these kids wanna play adult games then they're gonna have to pay adult prices for their actions. I have no sympathy whatsoever for these amigos.

  • PracticalMagick Dec 31, 9:12 a.m.

This is ridiculous! At sixteen the biggest thing I was worried about was getting my license and a date for the dance. At twelve, I just wanted to ride my bike. What's wrong with these families?

  • GravyPig Dec 31, 8:47 a.m.

Shameful. I gotta ask, where are the parents? How does a 12 and 14 y/o from Raleigh end up in Durham? Blows my mind.

  • Scubagirl Dec 31, 8:14 a.m.

Adult crime ADULT TIME for all of them, INCLUDING the 12 yr. old should she survive. This is just beyond horrible. KIDS!!! WHERE HAVE THEIR PARENTS BEEN? I also think that ALL of their pictures should be shown, I don't care if they're 12 or 20. You kill someone out of pure meanness your pic should be on the news.
