Romney would have provided the leadership we are missing.

  • hmmmmm Dec 28, 7:54 p.m.

Nothing but a bunch of losers playing brinkmanship games, impeach them all & get some real people in there who WANT to work for our country AND their pay. A single parent could clean up our budget mess real quick! Pay them a salary to look through all the "bills" passed & highlight all the areas of wasteful spending. I am sure they can find lots of ways to balance the budget, clean up our deficit, provide healthcare to all our citizens AND lower taxes.

I'm so glad the GOP decided to completely stop all talks regarding a budget deal to work on "Plan B" that they themselves did not even bring up for a vote....but thats what they call "compromise" and those mean old democrats are the ones holding up progress.

Wait a minute now!! Social Security is not an entitlement to me. I've paid into SS for YEARS.

So has every babyboomer and those after. However, when the bulk of the boomers retire we all will be in a downward boom that most will not understand.

How it is funded has nothing to do with it being an entitlement or not.

Social Security is absolutely an entitlement if you go by the actual definition of the word.

  • Tax Man Dec 28, 7:23 p.m.

For 2013 just set the tax rate at zero for everyone. Divide the national debt, including social security and medicare liabilities, by the total number of adults in the US and charge each one their equal share for 2013 due and payable in monthly installments until paid by 12/31/2013. If you do not pay the full tax owed then you become a government slave and must do a job that the government needs you to do whether it be street sweeping, toilet cleaning, painting etc. No more welfare, no more food stamps, no more unemployment. If you cannot pay your fair share of the amount Congress has burdened you with by December 31, 2013 then you must work for the government all of 2014! In 2014 use the FairTax and charge every single living American a consumption tax based on what they spend! That way we pay off the entire debt and get a fair way to collect taxes and eliminate the things that cost us so much money.

    ConservativeVoter in my opinion
I don't think you can exclude Social Security and Medicare.

  • mep Dec 28, 6:59 p.m.

OFF THE CLIFF WE GO... perhaps then our govt will begin to address the TRILLION dollar per year annual deficits and the $16 TRILLION dollar national debt. Not ONE DIME of our current taxes pays down on that debt. And each CITIZEN young, old, rich or poor in the US now owes over $52,000 towards that debt... on top of the taxes only about 50% of Americans pay. Couple that with under-funded and nearly insolvent entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare, ($110 trillion underfunded), bloated govt pension plans without proper funding, normal inflation and skyrocketing health care costs..... yup, we need to make some SERIOUSLY PAINFUL changes in how our govt collects taxes and spends money.... or else the cliff will be the least of our nations worries.

  • whatelseisnew Dec 28, 6:41 p.m.

I was poor. Unless the insane loose monetary policy is handled correctly, inflation will skyrocket and I will return to being poor. It will be an adjustment. Fortunately, I have no debts so if I can still manage to pay for food, fuel and utilities, all I have to do is figure out how to pay my property taxes. The government is plenty willing to rip off banks, but they will not let anyone get away with not paying taxes. I suppose if I had to I could go without electricity, but before that I would get rid of my internet service and tv service and just scale way back on electric usage. I lived a long time without air conditioning and I could switch back to heating with wood during the cold months.

  • ConservativeVoter Dec 28, 6:41 p.m.

End Obamacare and reducing government spending to only what's required by the constitution.

  • ConservativeVoter Dec 28, 6:40 p.m.

If we can't extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone along with significantly reducing government entitlement (wealth transfer, wealth redistribution, and welfare) programs excluding Social Security and Medicare, let the country go over the cliff.

Any Republican who votes for a compromise with Obama doesn't get my vote in the 2014, 2016, and 2018.

  • donnied19522 Dec 28, 6:38 p.m.

No matter what deal they come up with and no matter what they say, the only people they will be hurting in the long run are the people that work for a living. Always the same old stuff. Make a big deal of how they are going to take the money you earn away from you and give it to others. then somehow they try to make you, the one paying the taxes, feel guilty and imply that you are a sorry person to not want to pay more.
Take from the rich and give to the poor, not likely. Take from the working class and give to the poor, Iraq, Afganistan, Libia, Pakistan and the list just goes on and on.

  • echokit Dec 28, 6:19 p.m.

AMEN! I know how to live poor, do you?

  • paultaylorsr100 Dec 28, 6:16 p.m.

Haven't heard you left-wingers bragging on the markets lately. You think they have any faith in obama-reid-pelosi???

  • grimreaper Dec 28, 6:15 p.m.

Any "deal" they reach is a bad one...need to go over the cliff signed into law by the President and then justify back any of these cuts...else we accomplish nothing...the government is nothing but a self-serving entity now...a "deal" just perpetuates that and accomplishes nothing else...

  • paultaylorsr100 Dec 28, 6:14 p.m.

I say take us over the cliff. I want EVERYBODY to finally start paying taxes.
