Imagine that you sit in front of this school in a fully-loaded Army tank...all day every day. You're our smartest & best-trained soldier with our best firepower!

Now, imagine this skinny boy shooter walked up to the school in his body armor & loaded with weapons. But, you just let him walk by you. You don’t make a sound. You watch while he tries the locked doors. You watch more while he smashes a window to get inside the school to the 6 year olds and their teachers...

You never help. But, the school staff jumps into action, sacrifice their lives and call in other humans who take action and they stop this maniac.

After it's over, groups of people gather together to worship and praise you...the do-nothing “protector”. THAT is what we are talking about here in this news story. People worshipping YOU for YOUR role in all this.

IMO, that's problem and that's why I'm posting here. YMMV

allinfantsareathiests, bottom line is one day we'll all find out who was right and who was wrong about God's existence. I was listening to myself when I asked the question if God ever stepped in to stop you from doing something wrong...apparently no one else was.

No humans “took god out of school”. The Engel v. Vitalet ruling stopped the forced reading of Christian Bible verses over the public school loudspeaker.

Every school child & teacher is still perfectly able to pray, pay homage & worship their private god in any way they want, any time they want, as long as it doesn’t affect others. The religious cannot use government money & resources to force impressionable children to be their very own captive audience.

If you have an ounce of do-unto-others blood in you, ask yourself if it would be appropriate to for the public school to force your children to listen to Koran readings, and only Koran readings, every morning. Would that start you thinking about the separation of church and State, maybe?

If you attribute all the bad things happening in schools (and society for that matter) to “taking god out of school”, then you must also attribute all of the good things happening in schools for the same reason. ...less racism, less sexism, higher math/reading scores, longer life expectancy, flat screen TVs, the internet, and on and on. It's called "intellectual honesty", which is also known as "not being a hypocrite".

So, no one here would have stoppped this mass murderer if they could have? Is that really a difficult question? And, if you just let the guy go on in the school and do what he did, you have no idea what people might think of you? Really?

And, you think that you can tell an all-knowing being something s/he doesn't already know?

And, an all-powerful being can be kept out of any sort of human-made building?...with only a few human-written words on human-made paper?

Remember it was the left wing that kicked God out of school, court houses and all public buildings, they ever boo'ed God during the democratic convention. Maybe we should look in the mirror before we start to judge.

to allinfantsareathiests, I don't have the answers to your questions. However, I can ask this: have you ever done something you know to be wrong? for instance; lie, speed, maybe cheat on a test, do something dishonest at work. I know those examples are far from being close to gun violence, etc. However, the bottom line is, have you ever been stopped by God from doing those things? My guess is no. I've never been stopped from doing something I know to be wrong. I have to make that choice to stop, or not do it. @ geosol, it is sad and ironic that the conservatives don't get the real message of Jesus. Not many people truly do...not the liberals either. Jesus also said to follow and obey God's commands. Who among us is doing that?

To the athiests - Our God gave us free will. He did not allow or start this. It is the evil ones around us doing this. There are metally ill people all around and they are fine as long as they take their medications, but they don't think that they are ill or wont' take their meds. God doesn't let bad happen. Evil and bad is there because of the devil. God is good and gives free will and love to each and every one of us!
