Thanks westernwake1, but I'm afraid pene2 doesn't want to be educated. They only want to feel superior to the locals. I'm not a local but I have been here long enough to know there is a lot to learn from the locals when you stop telling them how they should think and how they should do things.

OK. Only those who own land in the Adirondacks should speak up. I own land in the Adirondacks. The biggest issue we face each spring is finding dead underweight deer all over the property that starved to death during the winter. The primary issue is under-hunting leading to an over-population of deer that is not sustainable. kac82 is correct. It is illegal to feed the deer, and feeding the deer hurts rather than helps the health of the deer population.

Here is the NY State DEC link outlining why feeding deer, bear, and moose is illegal in New York and why it is harmful. -

KiKinc, I didn't say hunting is illegal in NY, I said feeding deer is illegal and explained why. Pene2 bragged about feeding the deer in the Adirondacks, I pointed out this is illegal and harmful to the deer. On the day a allstate study came out ranking Fayetteville safer for driving than any city in NY pene2 was ranting about drivers in Fayetteville. My point is pene2 can demonstrate a great lack of knowledge while talking down to the locals. PS--I lived in the Albany area, camped and fished in the Adirondacks, went to hot air ballon launchs in Glen Falls, and went to the American Grand Prix in Watkins Glen. Found NY to be a great state with many wonderful people, don't know why you thought I insulted them, please reread the post.

Some of the best engineers I have worked with are U.S. citizens. Unfortunately many of them can not get jobs now because H1-B visa people are taking their jobs at half the market salary totally disrupting supply-demand employment structure of the U.S. IT sector. Of course, the companies are more interested in cheap over good as they bribe politicans to allow even more H1-B workers into the country. In the meantime, the IT products, code, and services continue to decline in quality to the point that many are nearly useless.

-----------------Did ya fully read the article? It does not say anything about stopping them or anyone from going to school. I've also worked with some Latino eng. and found most didn't have the qualification needed to do the job. Their "degree" from Mexico city was mostly for going an extra year in highschool. Last thing, and I think this is what concerns a lot of folks, is it appears we are actually awarding them for coming here illegal.

The naacp is SUCH a joke! How can any rational person take them seriously? How in the world are they funded? Really, who funds this reality challenged bunch of talking heads? They want to act like they uphold the law, rights for everyone.... how about the right to put criminals in jail... how bout the right to send illegal aliens back to the country they come from, how about the rights of the people to NOT have their social resources, paid for by LEGAL CITIZENS, SCARFFED UP BY NON TAX PAYING ILLEGALS!!!!! ..... and barber..... really?

When they start paying taxes then they can say something, until then, illegal is illegal ! When you're a law abiding tax paying citizen that contributes instead of taking then you can say something, until then let the NAACP pay for it - you want something then have a goal and work for it and stop sticking your hand out for a hand out. That's what America used to be based on, not anymore, the dream is slipping away

"The North Carolina chapter of the NAACP and immigrant rights advocates said students who are in the country illegally have a hard time paying for community college because they don't qualify for student loans or most scholarships."

Bingo, they hit it right on the head, they used the term "in the country illegally" to describe those who they are standing up for. Maybe that's why they are having a hard time .... we shouldn't reward people who break the law. If you're here illegally you're breaking the law and shouldn't even recieve a wooden nickel. Seems clear to me.

kacj82-Hey now, don't knock on NY b/c you don't agree with one person. I don't know why you think deer hunting is illegal there b/c plenty of friends hunted, legally, and that was on Long Island. Plenty more hunting was going on upstate, too! As for safest cities for driver, Buffalo ranks in the top every year, usually. I love NC and I love NY, but people from both areas have got to stop bashing on others. There are people that you're not going to like, regardless of where they were born.

  • peppercorns Dec 27, 12:10 p.m.

Dear NAACP: We are in America and if a person wants to go to college here, they should come here LEGALLY. If they are not LEGAL, then they should go home. It is pretty simple. American college should only be for American students. I am so sorry you can't seem to understand that concept. Best of Luck.

  • shotgun2 Dec 27, 11:53 a.m.

And the "left" gets even lefter! If they're illegal...then send them back, it's a no-brainer! Now the NAACP wants us to pay for their education before we pay for their stay in prison! lol Seriously, US citizens FIRST. Charity starts at home, with your own family.

  • 3forme Dec 27, 11:21 a.m.

Just really dislike being constantly insulted by a certain few people on this site. They chose to come here from other areas and criticize how things are done in North Carolina, constantly reminding us of how "educated' they are and how ignorant we are about all matters. First take care of the many legal citizens in this state who can't find a place in the strained community college systems and then help the others..

  • doneal Dec 27, 11:20 a.m.

seems to me that the NAACP wants a free ride for everyone that is illegal or too lazy to work and earn a living....

  • MadMaxx Dec 27, 11:16 a.m.

They (NAACP), apparently trying to look good for media coverage, do have a clue as to what this would do. If the college system was to give more access to "ILLEGAL" undocumented people, that right there just shut out more potential students, both black and white. SO I guess the NAACP is trying to solicit funds and membership from the hispanic community with this offer which will do more harm the black community that the NAACP supposed represent. Way to go the Rev. Barber!

  • beachwalk12 Dec 27, 11:07 a.m.

I couldn't agree with you more IndependentAmerican and Desiderata. It's one thing if you are in the country legally and contributing to this country's growth, but to expect my child to pay more for their education so that someone who is here illegally don't have to pay anything is criminal, and just plain wrong.

  • RM24 Dec 27, 11:01 a.m.

and so indicative of why we need much more stringent gun control laws and we need them now!
    piene2

You think the gangs cause problems. You better count all the hunting license sold before you think you can "TAKE" peoples guns. The day will come when normal people are going to say enough is enough. Remember there was a reason we formed the United States of America!

  • IndependentAmerican Dec 27, 10:46 a.m.

Apparently Barber thinks that even though the law describes those undocumented children as illegal, and he disagrees with the law, we should ignore it. Sorry, we don't get to pick and choose which laws we like and follow, and ignore the ones we don't like. If the law needs to be changed, work to change it. Otherwise, illegal means against the law, means criminal, means a possible fine or jail time, or deportation.

  • Desiderata Dec 27, 10:35 a.m.

So many have such good comments, I ditto many of them. First things first. THEY ARE ILLEGAL and the Rev wants US to pay for THEIR college education...Ok, then I want REV to pony up and pay out of HIS POCKET as it is his ( NAACP) idea. Next he will want us to pay for food , shelter, health care...oh yea, we do that now Medicare/medicaid and the illegals have put the US into a deficit! THANKS FOR NOTHING.!

  • Billfisher Dec 27, 10:33 a.m.

Does anyone really care what the NAACP thinks anymore?

  • brianwilson1032 Dec 27, 10:33 a.m.

I love this idea. Ill will keep paying taxes for the 50% in this country that does not. I will then pay for illegal aliens to go to school. I guess i will have to work three jobs to send my kids to school, pay my bills, buy my food, power, clothes, diapers and everything else. America is starting to be come the land of the FREE STUFF, not Freedom. Now off to the fiscal cliff. Have a good day.

  • floseh2 Dec 27, 10:29 a.m.

If the students are here illegaly, then why is not something being done to address the breaking of American Law? We as citizens are standing by and letting this happen. If I break the law here in Nash County, then I have to pay the price. Why then ,not them?

"even if they've lived and paid taxes in North Carolina all their lives." Interesting question, aside from sales tax, how precisely do illegal immigrants pay taxes "all their lives" absent some sort of fraud, identity theft etc? I'd like to see hard numbers on this, not an appeal to emotion over reason.

Actually it is a five step process:
    1) Go back to your country of citizenship.
    2) Apply for visa to work legally in the U.S.
    3) Apply for a Green Card once in the U.S.
    4) Apply for U.S. citizenship.

........................While that maybe, (it still ain't very nice), some people didn't take a civic class or a social study class. Some don't seem to understand that illegals have already sucked up resource that has lead to the end of services that the legal citizens use to get. (some medicare services that no longer available, because the money is not there now). IF they use these resources for illegals, or non-resident, then those resources won't be there for legal citizens. It looks like the NAACP is actually shooting itself and memebers in the foot.
