"The "other" local news stations and the newspapers report Durham crime just as often. What's interesting is when you hear about violent crime in Cary, Apex, Raleigh the suspect is often from Durham or Orange county, or has gang affiliation from Durham. That doesn't often get reported." - Common_Sensey

The obvious and most well known example is the Eve Carson case.

In western Cary nearly all of our drug distribution and violent crimes are committed by criminals from Durham - including Cary's only murder in recent years. Most of these criminals are from Durham gangs but stay illegally in our local low income housing complex on some nights.

"Southpointe is in Durham,The nice shops off 15/501 are in Durham. The high priced mansions off of 701 south of southpointe are in Durham.so stop bashing what you don't know or fail to see because you cannot face the truth and hide from it." - Uhavenoclu

Here is the sad reality... while Durham has some nice areas including the revitalized Tobacco District with DPAC and the Bulls stadium, most of central Durham has a violent crime rate that is over 11 times that of surrounding cities. Overall the crime rate in the City of Durham is 3-4 times that of surrounding cities.

"I know WRAL tries to hide or not report all the crime in other areas and if they do report them they take them down quickly"

UHavenoclu, Durham gets its bad reputation for its many areas of high crime, drug use, low education, welfare, and low employment.

It doesn't matter if Southpoint Mall or million dollar homes exist in Durham. It doesn't matter Durham has a revitalized downtown, museums, and events. Overall, Durham has more bad/high crime areas than most surrounding cities. THAT is what the Durham bashers are talking about. Durham is a lot like Fayetteville & Greensboro. Few nice areas and the rest is urban mess.

It's too bad this lady didn't have a glock 9mm handy so she could have "stopped the action" of this offender. It would have been nice to read a headline that said..."suspect shot dead after attempted kidnapping of Durham woman".

where is the description of the robber?

Just stop bashing all together! It's everywhere people.

Lock your doors while driving through Durham. My wife drives to and from work in the wee-hours of the morning. She takes the "long way" home just to avoid driving through Durham at those hours. Oh, and she's been professionally trained to use a handgun, so I wouldn't advise you to try to jump in her car at 1:30 am.

All it takes is one person, not a whole town..... I've been all over the woorld, the people are the same wherever you go...and if you ever read the news you will see from Colorado to Cary...The crimes and Abusers are always the ones you would never suspect or that you trusted.

If people drive around with their car doors unlocked what can they expect but what occurred.
