My question is, why does this story not match the 911 call the guy's wife made when this happened? She called in, said her husband had been drinking and half asleep in his recliner when he heard a banging at the door, jolted awake from his partial slumber, and immediately shot through the door, killing the boy. She said it was an accident, and her husband thought they were in the process of being victimized in a home invasion. This is what I've heard from one of the first responders.

I've also heard that he was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter, which has been upgraded to voluntary manslaughter. WRAL, can you look into the 911 call and maybe do a story on why it differed so much from what is being reported here?

Terrible tragedy for everyone involved - we've had enough dead kids for a while! Odd item - why is the charge voluntary manslaughter? Is there something that indicates Mr. Furey deliberately killed the child?
