I guess I will say it. Good job DPD on catching these criminals. More people are more concerned about comparing stats to Durham...my question is who cares?!!! I think you all are missing the point here.

How does Baltimore figure into the crime rates in NC counties?? Nice statistics though and sure to change outside Durham this yr from the increasing crime headlines lately..

Oops - my decimals are off in that last post. That's what I get for posting on the fly. The correct violent crime rates per 100K for those cities are

Baltimore: 1417.4 Durham: 738.2 Lumberton: 1741.9 Kinston: 1211.7 Rocky Mount: 977.6 W-S: 673.0 Charlotte: 606.4 Raleigh 421.5

"Also, per capita based on population, Durham has more violent crime than Charlotte or Baltimore. Check out the FBI stats."

Way, way wrong about Baltimore. From 2011 FBI Uniform Crime data (the latest that's available):

Baltimore: 8,885 VCs, pop. of 626,848 = 14.2 VCs per 100K Durham: 1,707 VCs, pop. of 231,225 = 7.4 VCs per 100K

Here are a few other places, just for comparison:

Lumberton: 1.74 Kinston: 1.21 Rocky Mount: 0.98 Burlington: 0.80 Winston-Salem: 0.67 Charlotte: 0.61 Raleigh: 0.42 No data was provided for Greensboro.

Crime in Durham for 2012 is trending lower than 2011, too, so that rate should drop a bit when UCR data for this year become available in 2013.

Can you post proof of that? A quick check of the man stabbed in Apex recently was by Apex residents, Man shot in Raleigh Apt complex..no suspect.. Teens charged in kidnapping/Robbery in Raleigh are from Raleigh, Two wounded in Raleigh stabbing.no suspect..Two out of 4 confirmed are Raleigh criminals or 50% from just 4 recent stories. I would like to see your proof of that statement of " Often " suspects or convicted person of said crime is from Durham and Fayetteville..I didn't see any...But on the other hand we could say all the unsolved crimes from Durham are from people outside the area also without proof...

In Raleigh, the majority of the violent & drug crime happens downtown near S. Saunders St, Poole Rd and in North Raleigh around Mini City. And what do those areas have in common?? Not just low income & education levels....

Look up the term "Durham gangs" on the Internet, check out the videos. It's disgusting. Some parts of Durham just need to be raided by the National Guard, torn down, and rebuilt with new, higher class people. Common_Sensey

Funny you say that ....Per Gangnet 2011.....Durham has 40 gangs by node and Wake county has 99. So if Wake county is larger in size but has double the gang numbers it must mean Wake is as bad or worse than Durham per your statement.... Read the info on http://www.ncgccd.org/pdfs/gangs2011.pdf and its an eye opener on the gangs in NC alone...Its out of date by a yr but still shocking to see....

Look at the headlines and see how bad ALL the counties are getting lately . Raleigh is hitting the headlines more so than Durham lately, killings in Apex, stabbings in Cary and so on. We all can look at the books from yrs back and say Durham is the worst but lets look at the recent crime stats and see who is quickly rising to the same level. Take at look at the Crime stats listed for each county in the links above and look at all the crime reported this month in Raleigh alone. Dec 18th alone is a very active day there in crime and shootings very frequent. The rise in crime is everywhere and its getting disturbing! Yes I live in Durham and have NEVER been a victim of crime in 24yrs but have been 3 times while visiting Raleigh and buddy robbed at gunpoint there in the last 10 yrs...Those are the stats I look at lately.

My point exactly, and Durham has more "bad" areas than good. Go talk to a Probation Officer or Durham cop, they'll tell you there are certain Durham neighborhoods where you shouldn't even stop at a red light at night because you'll get robbed. WRAL, you don't "ROB" a home, you rob a person. The correct wording of the crime is "BURGLARIZED" a home. Once again terrible reporting.....
