@jscott13, You may find this hard to believe but when you step out of your house every day you risk your life! The world is full of hazards that could take your life. The problem with today's society is not the guns, more so the population and there rapidly decreasing effort to teach their children respect and the value of life!!!!!!!!!!

When you hunt you risk your life. When you own a gun you risk your life. Piers Morgan was right to call the man defending owners of guns on his show "stupid". Loved it!!!

One of those terrible assault rifles must have attacked him. Gotta keep them on a leash people!

It's not a sport, much less a challenge. I grew up hunting in Randolph County with bow & rifle in the years where we could all wear cammo and not worry about orange blaze. Still, hitting a buck from 150 yrs with a modern rifle and scope is pretty much a joke, kids do it everyday.

So no, hunting isn't a sport.

Hunting today with modern weapons is a joke. It's not even much of a sport.

It is still deer season and I will tell you there are noise hunters out there. The duck hunter was possibly not wearing orange which makes him fair game to a noise hunter. That's a person that shoots at a noise without seeing what it is to those non-hunter types.

That gives Hunting Season a whole new meaning.

I drove past where they found the hunter yesterday while on my way into Sanford. The area is very popular with deer hunters, it would not surprise me to find out that this was an accidental shooting by a deer hunter. And, it's a a really odd place to go duck hunting - I don't know of any water around that area.

I know it's early in the day but you have the most moronic comment title so far. Good luck defending it.

Interesting... the guy was "Duck Hunting", which implies that he was using a shotgun. If someone else was also duck hunting, that would infer that this guy was shot by another hunter also using a shotgun.

Shotguns are fairly close-range weapons. Their effectiveness drops off dramatically with increasing range. So, in order to inflict enough injury that the victim was in critical condition... That would indicate that the shooter was fairly close to the victim.

And, since ducks are normally shot while flying, one could reasonably assume that any hunter would be aiming upwards while firing. Of course, there are some who would shoot sitting ducks...

One could speculate that this was either a tragic accident... self-inflicted, or involving another shooter. Or, the event was intentional by either party. It'll be interesting to learn more of what actually happened.

Actually all the hunters I know get along very well. I hunted for years and never saw any type of confrontations between fellow hunters. I hope this was a terrible accident, it would be awful to think it was deliberate.
