"westernwake1, lol, boy you sure have a short memory, don't you? Dr. Burns resigned with an effective date..... We don't have to explain the headline because if you actually read the story, you'll find out how wrong you are." - jcthai

Good attempt at re-writing history. You can read all the news articles about Del Burns. The articles stated he resigned and he REFUSED to work with the school board to implement assignment policies that were not based on diversity. You can either admire his courage to stand up for his personal convictions or think that he is a fool. The bottom line is that the job of the superindentent is to implement policies operational as dictated by the school board. As stated in many articles, Del Burns contract did not make it possible to fire him with cause unless he was convicted of a felony. Therefore the school board was left in a position where they had to put him on administrative leave until the resignation with an underserved package was effective.

I would only worry about SACS accreditation. But then, no public school needs to worry about accreditation...........

  • IPayYouPay Dec 19, 3:50 p.m.

No, Mr. Capps, that would be Mr. Margiotta and Mr. Tedesco that REALLY shook everything up. Republicans are now ticked off - now they know why Democrats were so upset when they took over.

  • ConservativeVoter Dec 19, 3:40 p.m.

Burns was Reverend Barber of the NAACP's lackey. Much like the five Democrats on the current school board.

    Barber pulls their strings.

Wake County Tax Association is as Non-partisan as the NAACP! Except the the NAACP plays the Race Card EVERY chance they get.

  • jcthai Dec 19, 10:38 a.m.

I'd love to know why WRAL or any other news organization would persist in the fiction that the Wake County Tax Association is non-partisan. What does it take to be non-partisan? Their actions and their words are clearly partisan? So what remains to be non-partisan?

westernwake1, lol, boy you sure have a short memory, don't you? Dr. Burns resigned with an effective date after the school year had ended. For various reasons, Tedesco said they wouldn't be able to work with him and put him on administrative leave. Saying that Dr. Burns was put on administrative leave for refusing to come into work is an outright lie. If he had done that, he would have fired for cause. We don't have to explain the headline because if you actually read the story, you'll find out how wrong you are.

"Dr. Burns resigned but they put him on administrative leave until his resignation was affective(sic)."

I'm sure you wouldn't know, sooperman, but for many execuive jobs, if you resign you are escorted to the door and your secretary brings out your stuff in a box.

Del Burns was put on administrative leave when he refused to come into work and do his job. Shocking! The only reason he was not fired immediately is because of his contract with the school system.

    Explain this headline...

Wake schools superintendent's resignation becomes official

I spent 32 years in the public schools and was involved in the accreditation process a number of times. I never saw any evidence that accreditation had any effect on the quality of the education in any of the schools. It was simply a process which we were forced to endure. I do suspect, however, that the accreditaion agency makes a pile of money from this.

AdvancED may have been concerned about the firing of Tata which happened after the previous supt was also fired. That was two in a row. Two supts fired back to back ain't so good for a stable board. That would be two supt's in two years. Not a good track record.

westernwake1 You care to provide the link?

"When accrediation came up about two years ago the board wasnt concerned. They just said they would find another agency. They didnt even know what accredition was or what it meant. Dont forget the board has dismissed two (2) supt's not just one. Dr Burns was paid 150k and Tata was paid 250K. They didnt discuss either dismissal with the public"

Get your facts straight. Burns the the supporter of race based busing RESIGNED. The prior board knew full well what the accreditation is. Unfortunately the ill-informed lefties, did nothing but attack that board from day one. That board was finally actually doing some things to improve the system. I wish there was a way to charge a surtax on Democrats. They should pay for the garbage they create.

"AdvancED accredits tens of thousands of schools here and abroad, I think, and if someone thinks it has an agenda, gather up the facts and see what the stats say. Wake is not the only politicized, dysfunctional system in the nation." - djofraleigh

AdvancED has accredited a number of school systems that were so bad that they failed and had to be taken over by states. A number of the school systems they accredited as being without issues had huge governance, accountability, educational, and fraud issues. There is a huge question if accreditation by AdvancED has any value whatsoever.

  • Nancy Dec 18, 5:37 p.m.

AdvancED stated upon the firing of Tata that it did not bode well for the school district, they had found him totally impressive with what he had accomplished. And we have now seen this new board dismantle much of what had been accomplished and won the approval of AdvancED.

  • djofraleigh Dec 18, 4:58 p.m.

AdvancED has little choice to see a system that has declined rather than improved since the last look over a year ago, for there is a greater divide than ever, and the hasty, without warning or discussion with the public dismissal of the superintendent and continued operation from within without replacement at great expense is evidence the board in Wake is lacking.

  • westernwake1 Dec 18, 4:31 p.m.

I take my words back.. . I re-read the article and this is the Wake County school system's response to the complaint, not the final finding by AdvancED.

If AdvancED eventually supports the assertion of the school system in their decision then I will stand by what I wrote below.

  • Tax Man Dec 18, 4:20 p.m.

Hey, it is the Wake County School Board. Nothing but politics and who cares about some dumb kids...

  • ctomblin Dec 18, 4:18 p.m.

Where is the follow up on Advance Ed's finding that the complaint is without merit?

"WRAL.com BREAKING NEWS: Accreditation group finds complaint against Wake school board to be without merit

The national accreditation group AdvancED has found a complaint against the Wake County Board of Education by the Wake County Taxpayers Association to be without merit."

  • westernwake1 Dec 18, 4:11 p.m.

Considering that the complaint by Wake County Taxpayers Association is basically an exact duplicate of the earlier complaint filed by the NAACP - but outlined behavior by Democratic school board members that was even worse than anything done by the Republicans --- it is absurd that this complaint is found to be without merit.

The entire situation clearly shows that AdvancED has a political agenda and that the group is not focused on what is best for our children's education.

I think it is absurd that both the NAACP and Wake County Taxpayers Association filed these complaints... but it is even more absurd that AdvancED simply drives a political agenda and their certification has nothing to do with the quality or governance of the school systems they evaluate.

The bottom line is certification by AdvancED provides no value.
