  • Gork Dec 19, 7:16 p.m.

Oh! I get it - she's a victim in this situation. I thought she did something wrong for her good buddy -

  • takeabathgreg Dec 19, 4:10 p.m.

it must be nice to work in an environment where you broke the rules but yet get to keep your job

  • vjayd Dec 19, 12:44 p.m.

Ruth was a judge in family court who signed over 50 orders related to traffic court. She knew these were not family court orders! She knew her friend Crouch was in traffic court. Her actions were criminal and she should have been punished more severely, both by the State Bar and the Criminal Justice System. She should move way way far away and thank her entitled stars.

  • Sherlock Dec 19, 12:32 p.m.

She was a judge there was no way she would have gotten any type of jail time in NC, that is a very protective class.

  • superman Dec 19, 12:02 p.m.

I am so happy that that is able to move on-perhaps Mississippi has a place for her since the wont be in prison where she belongs. Hope Stephens realizes that he might have lost of votes in his next election. Willougly going go lose votes too. I decided that from now on I will never vote for a person who is currently elected to an office. New people need to be elected everytime. North Carolina is full of corruption.

  • rroadrunner99 Dec 19, 11:36 a.m.

I feel that she should have gotten Prison time same as her cohort in this matter did. It's her own doing that she didn't read the document's she signed... bottom line. She was paid to read them! if she can't read a certain numer of them in a day, then there is alway's the next day's court. No excuse for this whatsoever! If this excuse is acceptable for her then it should be acceptable for any defendant in a court room In N.C. They didn't read the appling law...

  • Bartmeister Dec 19, 11:21 a.m.

    Please................Move on.

  • Sherlock Dec 19, 11:03 a.m.

She is going to run for an office any office now that is overly qualified to do it.

  • Dadof4girls Dec 19, 10:32 a.m.

Agree with most of the statements here. She sat at that bench as if she was above the rest and evidence shows she was below most of us. I hope she rots in the basement! We are mean spirited just personally given unjust judgements but another corrupt judge. It simply sickens me. She should have to face us just like any other criminal before sentencing.

  • puzzled Dec 19, 10:00 a.m.

what a lot of mean spirited jealous people out posting today! Good luck with your new career judge Ruth and thank you for serving the citizens of our state.

Why are people mean just because they expect EQUAL justice for everyone?

  • whoodathunk Dec 19, 9:14 a.m.

If anyone needs a witness as to Kristin Ruth's unrealiability and proven false findings of fact as she enters law practice, let me know. I'd rather not see what happend to me and my children befall others. Ruth is a public menance in the court room.

  • whoodathunk Dec 19, 9:11 a.m.

When I was in Ruth's courtroom after MY OWN motion to adjust child support (joint custody) after being laid off she REFUSED to take my evidence and when I complained that it was my right as a citizen to be heard she smirked and said I could submit it but that she would take no judicial notice, that I could always appeal, and smirked again, shuffled paperwork while I spoke and immediately set aside the paper evidence of my ex's undisclosed income without even looking. This unlawfully excluded income from child support calculations. Then she made a math error of $650/month and berated me publicly for speaking up, insisting she was right and threatening me with contempt. Later she falsely found that I was $10,000 behind in support despite my protests that all payments were recorded through the courts and I was current. I had to file a pro-se thirty-page motion to get this corrected (result: I had overpaid by $100). SHE BLAMED HER CLERK, ACCEPTED NO RESPONSIBILITY & NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZED.

  • bubbba Dec 19, 8:59 a.m.

Blah, Blah, Blah, 50 times she failed as a judge, bottomline.
The overwhelming post do not agree with the sentencing. Judge Stevens a personal friend who sounded more like her defense attorney than presiding judge. Our system should be ashamed.
I am now more convinced than ever it's who you are not what you have done. Go back to Kansas Ruth. We deserve better.

  • NiceNSmooth Dec 19, 8:45 a.m.

I feel sorry for my ex as I will be her first client... he is going to pay through the nose!!!!

  • dollibug Dec 19, 8:20 a.m.

I think this is a PRIME EXAMPLE of what happens in court....JUDGES DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON....period....it is THEIR JOB TO KNOW what is going on....just HOW CAN ANYONE MAKE A FAIR AND JUST DECISION without knowing what really happened???????????????

  • dollibug Dec 19, 8:18 a.m.

This is a good sign of just how the *good ole boys and girls network system works*....it is sad that there is no accountability left in the system....a slap on the wrist means nothing....Does the system ever *give anyone else a second chance*???????? EXACTLY******

  • anotherbabyboomer Dec 19, 8:16 a.m.

Think of the lives she put in jeopardy with those DWI people back on the roads, thinking they can just pay to get out of it.

  • bobeugene4 Dec 18, 7:55 p.m.

I love the fact that she is now concerned about the citizens of Wake County. She obviously wasn't too concerned with them when she was signing off documents blindly that affected peoples lives.

  • thinkin out loud Dec 18, 7:52 p.m.

I am not advocating for Ms. Ruth, I thought she was way to lenient with people, but I have seen attorneys hand papers to many a judge for a signature and the judge would sign them without ever reading a word of what he/she was signing. Judges do not even get a copy of what they just signed in case questions are asked later

  • JKKC Dec 18, 7:47 p.m.

No, she should not have gone to jail, she should have gone to the yard. Those in the know, you know exactly what I mean. For those who don't, she should have been made to be out with those she sent to prison, no hiding behind anything.

  • JKKC Dec 18, 7:45 p.m.

She's allowed to whine about how she's sorry for her mistake and move on with her life without any real implication for her crimes, yet the PEOPLE are not able to do that. Heck, she did not even read what she was doing to the PEOPLE. Yep, gotta love our NC legal system.

  • esteryates69 Dec 18, 7:38 p.m.

Kristen Ruth,is playing dumb, how is she did not know all those years.I was so disappointing in Judge Stephens. It my bet she knew what was going on when someone stood before her in court.

  • JohnnyVoodoo Dec 18, 7:33 p.m.

We love you Judge Ruth...you went through all of this with honor and dignity! Congrats on the new life you have begun...you will be very respected and successful at whatever you do...because of who you are! I personally will love seeing you at the courthouse..you have been missed!!! Hugs and best wishes!!!

    laderjd..................
You gotta be kiddin' me. Wonder how much laderjd got paid for THAT endorsement?

  • JohnnyVoodoo Dec 18, 7:32 p.m.

Oh brother...she sure knows how to play the victim doesn't she? One word, five syllables...unbelievable. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go find my violin so I can play a sad song.

  • highvolt1 Dec 18, 7:28 p.m.

Boo Hoo. I am held responsible for the documents I sign.

She was duped like all of you everyday.
Everything happens for a reason and this is for the better. Move forward you have a lot of knowledge that many seek.
Continue to grow and close this chapter and start a new one.

  • The Carolina Sweetheart Dec 18, 7:21 p.m.

Kristen Ruth should have been made to take responsibility for her actions... the same thing she preached over and over again to the people standing before her! It frustrates me to read this article and to watch this interview and listen to her still NOT take any responsibility for HER OWN actions! I think Judge Stephens was way too easy on her. If she signed the documents, then she was responsible! She should have gone to jail

  • beckerunc Dec 18, 7:20 p.m.

Best wishes to Kristin Ruth !!

  • zachiarose Dec 18, 7:11 p.m.

I totally disagree with the ruling. This judge put her name on these documents, how could she not read before signing? If I break the law.....do I claim "ignorance" as well? Definitely should be disbarred altogether......not just reprimanded. How many repeat offenders were put back on the streets????

  • atheistswillrule Dec 18, 7:09 p.m.

She should have gone to jail!!!

  • westernwake1 Dec 18, 6:54 p.m.

She got off with a slap on the wrist.

  • mydirtyjeep Dec 18, 6:48 p.m.

I do not see how anyone can call this woman a victim! Really, a Judge does not know that you need to read and understand EVERYTHING you put your signature on! Especially if you are a Judge! This woman got off way too easy!

  • heelzfan4 Dec 18, 6:37 p.m.

But...she can't run a Judge's position anymore! OMG....poor thing! She should be thrilled. She got to keep her law license, was "coddled" like a child in the courtroom by Judge Stephens, and sent out with a smile. No community service, no fine..... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Must be nice to be in that "special" group of protected folks. We all make mistakes - and most regular folks have to pay the consequences.

  • WhatIsTheDrama Dec 18, 6:36 p.m.

I do hope Kristin Ruth continues practicing law. She is a victim and is only guilty of believing there are still good people in the world. It's a shame!
