I like his first name! Totally cool.

Another story with GUNS IN THE WRONG HANDS. When will all this killing stop. I can also bet you it was over nothing.

  • cantstandgoloanymore Dec 17, 1:06 p.m.

kimisufu - being a resident of Sunset Ridge, I wish it were.

  • marciamal1 Dec 17, 12:56 p.m.

Too many shootings these days - it was so much better years ago when i grew up -- never heard of such crime

  • ims1924 Dec 17, 12:39 p.m.

This area is called Feltonville. It has always been considered as part of Holly Springs but is actually outside the town limits of both Holly Springs and Apex. Pants on the ground and God Bless America.

They are refering to the POSTAL address and not the physical location. I live in the county, have a CARY address, and a APEX phone number. CARY is 25' from a side property line and APEX is 25' from the front property line. Don't know where is it?, look at the map WRAL provides.

  • cynda-ur-way Dec 17, 12:05 p.m.

Never been there. Looked it up on Google street view. One thing I will disagree with. There is a big difference between this and a third world country. Not even the same ballpark.

  • kimisufu Dec 17, 11:58 a.m.

I know I commented because I would say Holly Springs to describe this area more so than I would Apex. kikinc

Same here. Just like there are parts of Apex that I consider Cary and vice versa.

vaulter-Most people know that this area is unincorporated. I know I commented because I would say Holly Springs to describe this area more so than I would Apex.

  • vaulter Dec 17, 11:27 a.m.

Since so many of you don't seem to have a clue, the reason the Sheriff's Office responded is because Old Smithfield Rd. is not in ANY town.

  • HopingForABetterWorld Dec 17, 11:11 a.m.

WHO CARES if it is Apex or HS!!! Is it really THAT important? Crime happens EVERYWHERE!

  • NotUrTypicalAmerican Dec 17, 11:10 a.m.

Oh, brother. That area isn't as bad as you jokers are trying to make it. You people who are overemphasizing this story are acting as if where you live is immune to crime. Keep thinking that. lol

  • takeabathgreg Dec 17, 10:48 a.m.

Anyone that has lived here for any significant amount of time should not be surprised with crime taking place in that part of Apex.

  • daisy14 Dec 17, 10:12 a.m.

Oh, for crying out loud, people! There's crime EVERYWHERE - no matter where you live! Sleepy little town, Cary...Durham....wherever. Good grief. It happens. It's NOT the town or city. It's the sorry PEOPLE who do these crimes, most are isolated incidents...domestic...something.

  • Rebelyell55 Dec 17, 10:12 a.m.

From some of the comments I guess it's true that all areas have their "arm pits" to endure.

  • kimisufu Dec 17, 10:08 a.m.

I'm a native of SW Wake Co, and I consider that area Holly Springs. Not every part of town is like Sunset Ridge.

  • cantstandgoloanymore Dec 17, 10:05 a.m.

It is a bad street. Unfortunately the 540 extension isn't going to take it out. It is going down closer to the old 84 lumber location. http://www.westernwakeinfo.com/file/doc/publicmeetingmapsheet1.pdf One of only 2 "bad" streets that I know of in Holly Springs.

  • Tray Cee Dec 17, 10:01 a.m.

Jacksun you've hit the nail on the head, that street is not good. I've gone down it ONCE to avoid traffic on Main Street and was met by a group standing in the middle of the road who didn't want me to pass. I ended up going on the grass and around them. I've had a visitor come over and he missed the main turn and knew he could turn down that street to get over to Main street and when he came up the light he was pulled over by police asking why he was down there after dark and what he was doing/who he was seeing and when it was obvious he was just cutting through the police told him to avoid that street in the future. Like I said the surrounding area is nice and haven't had any issues in the seven years I've lived in HSP but that street is to be avoided.

  • jacksun48 Dec 17, 9:49 a.m.

That street will take you into a 'third world country'. I wish Franklin Graham, John Haggee, Mitt Romney, and president Obama would visit this street for a photo opp. America the beautiful it ain't.

  • happymom Dec 17, 9:44 a.m.

Apex is a wonderful place to live. We've been here for 6 years, and I've never had a single problem- never any anxiety over safety. I don't understand the stories coming out of the town lately. It's just not the kind of place that encourages violence.

  • Tray Cee Dec 17, 9:39 a.m.

Agree, this is right on the HSP and Apex line. Everyone in the area knows not to go down that street. The area surrounding it is not bad just that one street which now with the addition of 540 hopefully will clear out that area for good.

  • kikinc Dec 17, 9:27 a.m.

fgump- I agree. That's just about a block away from Holly Springs. When I worked in the Springs, I would take great care to avoid that street at any time of day.

  • fgump Dec 17, 9:14 a.m.

I'd call this more Northern Holly Springs than Southern Apex, even if it is in 27539.

  • Bec0522 Dec 17, 9:07 a.m.

Apex goes on the radar a few times and people are already assuming its a bad town...no we just live in a sad world.

  • JohnnyVoodoo Dec 17, 8:29 a.m.

It seems as if Apex is slowly but surely becoming the new Knightdale. Those sleepy little towns on the outskirts of Raleigh ain't so sleepy anymore.
