For anyone that thinks this is ok, is a fool, shouldn't have kids and needs to get some sort of treatment to find out why they think this is ok.

  • CrazyFoxofCary Dec 18, 2012

Viking416: I am sure you are joking. Child asleep in car is no excuse for leaving them alone. I give the person who called the cops a lot of credit. Many folks would not care to get involved

  • viking416 Dec 14, 2012

was the kid sleeping? if so, no problem

  • Unfair Moderators Stink Dec 14, 2012

    "Why is this a crime?"

    You really don't know? (amazing)

  • Rebelyell55 Dec 14, 2012

I left my nephew in my car to run in a convenience store once but was only gone 5 minutes & looked out window a few times. That was over 15 years ago.

A lady told me that story too, only her kid knock the car into gear and it rolled toward the gas pumps, only thing stopped it was the graud they have at end of pumps, if not it could of been really bad.

  • miyata Dec 14, 2012

I just don't understand some people.

  • reneeshaw Dec 14, 2012

I am sorry I have no sympathy for this woman. You don't leave your child in the car unattended no matter how long you will be.

  • Marty King Dec 14, 2012

    Why is this a crime?

  • bjm011366 Dec 14, 2012

    What a dope.

  • VickLo Dec 14, 2012

"She should have covered him up so no one could see him. It was 52 degrees yesterday, and there was no reason to think that the vehicle would get too hot."

    Wow. Impressive.

  • kikinc Dec 14, 2012

To those that have sympathy for this woman..."Is this really a person who needs to be punished by the criminal justice system?"

What would you say if we were reading a story about how her child was abducted when they were left alone in the car while she went shopping?

You don't leave your kid in the car. End of story.

  • pedsRN Dec 14, 2012

With all the cases of child abduction, why would you even think that it's okay to leave the child in the car while you shopped?? I left my nephew in my car to run in a convenience store once but was only gone 5 minutes & looked out window a few times. That was over 15 years ago.

  • Rebelyell55 Dec 14, 2012

1.She most likely didn't realize how overly senative people are now a days.
    2. Her poor lack of judgement was most likely made on her life experiences.
    3. She most likely now knows that she must protect her child and herself from now on.

  • nitabitasmith Dec 14, 2012

I can't believe some of you are actually saying that it is okay to leave a child in a car. I don't care if he or she is sleep. Take them in the store asleep!!! Seriously?? I hope you do not have children already or plan on concieving any. You would be a scary parent. Smh...

  • esteryates69 Dec 14, 2012

It no excuse what so ever to leave a child along, and yes i call the law had i been the one to see him in a car along.

  • carrboroyouth Dec 14, 2012

"I can, I guarantee you that if this woman votes, she is a Democrat." whatelseisnew

WHO CARES WHO SHE VOTED FOR? Seriously? Does that make the crime better or worse? It doesn't. It's irrelevant.

  • kimisufu Dec 14, 2012

Is this really a person who needs to be punished by the criminal justice system?

    yes

  • SouthernPackerFan Dec 14, 2012

I can, I guarantee you that if this woman votes, she is a Democrat. whatelseisnew

She had an accent when I talked to her so she isn't from here. So if she is allowed to vote(not that that matters to democrats) there is a possibilty you may be right.

    Crumps Br0ther
isn't it cute these two......everything is someone elses fault, typical GOP fear mongers

  • momeeee Dec 14, 2012

  • OneLove Dec 14, 2012

"She should have covered him up so no one could see him."--- Really? Please do not have children. No matter the temperature, imagine his fright waking up ALONE....and we don't really know if he was asleep.

  • hmmmmm Dec 14, 2012

Child left in the car brings up discussion about dogs? Dogs are not people, folks.
    common tater

You're gonna get some attention for that one. wasnt there some politician a few years ago who said that animals needed legal representation in court. what a brilliant scam! Thats right up there with pet psychics

  • CharmedLife Dec 14, 2012

If you're going to lay down and conceive a child, then at least be responsible enough to care for it.

  • vincentwilliam794 Dec 14, 2012

Misdeameanor charge, thats all? should be more severe than that...what are people thinking these days..children, elderly, animals we need stricter laws, to protect those who cant protect themselves..throw the book at her

  • kimisufu Dec 14, 2012

I bet she wouldn't leave her wallet in the car (if she wasn't going shopping of course.) But kid, sure.

  • nitabitasmith Dec 14, 2012

@immaannoid thank you!! I am soooo sick of ppl valuing animal life over human.

On another note, why would anyone think it is okay to leave your kid in the car while you shop? Especially this time of year when robbery, murder, and other violent crimes are so high. Big dummy .....

  • heelsgirl05 Dec 14, 2012

Gosh, some people are really not that bright are they?? You never leave a 1 year old alone, not even for a long time in your own house much less a car where she or he can be abducted!

  • BernsteinIII Dec 14, 2012

"People leave animals in cars all the time in 100 degree weather and no one seems to do anything about it. But if someone leaves a kid in a car for like 10 min they get arrested? **(note I am not advocating leaving any one or any living creature in a car, I'm just saying it should be equal punishment for both)"

Equating children with animals is the hallmark of someone with issues. There is *NO* comparison. Please work on developing human relationships.

  • BigUNCFan Dec 14, 2012

That's just dumb as well as irresponsible.

  • mistervegas Dec 14, 2012

I am not surprised. I see a lot of people who do stupid stuff because its convenient.

  • Bartmeister Dec 14, 2012

I can't believe some of the comments here. This is wrong on so many levels. I mean Walmart? Really?

  • PracticalMagick Dec 14, 2012

I stopped to pick something up quickly from a strip mall last month, and as I was getting out of my car a young woman asked me if I would stand by her car and keep an eye on her baby in the car seat so she could run in and do some shopping. I apologized and told her I was in a rush, and she got kinda nasty. I'm thinking that if you can't take your child in the store with you, then DON'T GO SHOPPING.

True story, honestly. I couldn't believe she had the audacity to ask someone that.

  • HANS FOR PRESIDENT!!!!! JK Dec 14, 2012

It's hard for me to even imagine contemplating leaving my kids in the car alone but even if such a ridiculous thought crossed my mind I don't ever see myself following through. You just don't leave people alone that are incapable of making rational decisions for themselves or protecting themselves in the face of danger

  • Crumps Br0ther Dec 14, 2012

She used to work at the grocery store I used to go to when I lived in Cary. I have talked to her a few time, but that was over 10 years ago

  • morebadnews Dec 14, 2012

We are truly comparing leaving children in the car to leaving animals in the car??? Oh my!!

  • OneLove Dec 14, 2012

    ((facepalm))

  • beaupeep Dec 14, 2012

Is the mom's town really important? WRAL employs the Cary haters too?

  • CrazyLucky Dec 14, 2012

Seriously? Equal punishment for leaving an animal in the car as leaving a person? I have three pets and love them all, but they do not, in any way, equal a person.

  • Lady Marksman Dec 14, 2012

I believe it is against the law to leave an animal in the car in extreme temperatures. If I saw an animal in a car with no windows down etc., I would absolutely call the cops and stand by the car ready to bust a window if I thought the animal was in danger of dying.

No animal or child should be left in an unattended vehicle. Period. End of story!! It's neglectful and selfish on the part of the ADULT provider and he/she should be punished.

I imagine Child Protective Services is involved in this case!? I hope so for the child's safety and well-being!

  • just my2cents Dec 14, 2012

prisskat, I despise to see somebody leaving a pet in the car, I mean why take the animal out to leave it in a car? However, people leave animals at home alone all the time, but you can't do that with a 1 year old. Punishment should be handed out for both as far as a car goes, but you can't compare the two.

  • dontstopnow Dec 14, 2012

This is terrible on several levels. If you don't have a baby sitter to come in and stay with the child for you to go shopping, and you don't want to take the baby with you, then DON"T go shopping! What is more important to you, your child or an item from Walmart????

  • justmy2cntz Dec 14, 2012

"People leave animals in cars all the time in 100 degree weather and no one seems to do anything about it. Are you serious? You must not have any children....not equal.

"People leave animals in cars all the time in 100 degree weather and no one seems to do anything about it. But if someone leaves a kid in a car for like 10 min they get arrested? "

I know and don't get me started on how people flip out when I tell them how I crate trained my daughter.

  • WageSlave Dec 14, 2012

Prisskat, Should we give animals a fair trail for crimes committed too? Lets say....if sparky bites the mail man? Oh, how about free speach? No more telling sparky to hush when he barks all night....unless of course he is violating others rights.

Im all for keeping PETS safe, but don't compare punishishment to that of child abuse.

  • Lady Marksman Dec 14, 2012

That any mother could leave her child unattended in a car while she goes shopping is appalling.

Why would she want or need to leave the baby in the car?? It's not like Wal-Mart doesn't allow children!
