This is called pericarditis. It can be silent and often times it will mimic feelings of a heart attack. The most common of symptoms being chest pains leading you to feel like you've got heartburn and shortness of breath, sometimes you'll feel like your heart is racing where it's trying to compensate for the fluid compression and your increased exertion. Then, KAPUT! It gives up working so hard and you go into cardiac arrest with very few critical moments to get your revived again. I'm glad so many public places are being vigilant with AEDs now. I've noticed "security" guards at the Wake Co courthouse walkaround with one over their chest while they're doing foot patrols. Sporting events, malls, concert venues, etc have them. THEY DO SAVE LIVES!

Adding some information for people to be aware of... but let me start by saying I have absolutely NO IDEA what took the life of this poor child.
There is a condition that happens sometimes where water/fluid accumulates in the "sack" around the heart. There are not always warning signs, either. People often have this condition and don't even know it. A relative had this (they think it was caused by a virus). He ALMOST went to the gym for a workout one day, but was a little tired and short of breath. His wife made him get checked out. Turned out, he had this condition. Had he gone to the gym and put additional stress on his heart, good chance he would have died (he is under 40 years old!)
The doctors removed 1.5 LITERS of fluid around his heart. That is nearly a 2-liter bottle's worth! This makes the heart work very hard. When we hear about young kids dying on the practice field like this, it is often due to this condition, and not knowing it.
