Just an FYI this was a Wake County sheriff’s dept raid. You can tell Sheriff Donnie Harrison what to spend his time on here: http://services.wakegov.com/sheriffcontactform/

Tell him you won't vote for him next time.

I find it pathetic that people need to broadcast this information. Counterfeit items??? Really? Thats a poor excuse to charge shops with anything they can because the PD is already out to get them. What a waste of money to search these head shops and come out with minor charges. With all the stuff happening in the US right now, Raleigh PD finds it most essential to search head shops. Ridiculous that this is the world we live in. Thanks for sharing a simple misdemeanor charges of ALL the best head shops in Raleigh on major news.

"you can help them to stay away from the REAL problem drugs that do kill."

You mean the powerful narcotics that the schools shove down the throats of kids thus teaching them to use drugs early and often.

  • Minarchist Dec 14, 4:46 p.m.

Why are Raleigh police involving themselves in what is essentially a private matter? If multi-billion dollar firms are worried about counterfeit materials, they need to pursue the matter privately. Let's not waste tax dollars going after a red herring.

Tell us how to go after a counterfeting ring in China? Do you know laws?

  • jscott13 Dec 14, 4:27 p.m.

R_U is absolutely correct. Long and Stephanie are just employees swept up in this mess. And they are wonderful people, trying to support themselves and pay for school!! This is so ridiculous. and TeenDad5, if you have kids then educate yourself before commenting so that you can help them to stay away from the REAL problem drugs that do kill.

  • wa4mjf Dec 14, 4:04 p.m.

Not sure who did this...this article says RPD, N&O article says Donnie's D&V unit did it. Sloppy reporting on one or both media's part.

  • Minarchist Dec 14, 4:00 p.m.

SOYOUDONTLIKEMYOPINION.....if heroin were legal tomorrow would you try it? You make it sound like you would. Why do you need laws to tell you drugs are bad for you. If we cant keep drugs out of our prisons what is making society a prison going to do? Poro guy. Just say no. You dont need laws. Why do you think people turn to bath slats and K2? BECAUSE THE REAL, SAFE DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL. Marijuana and MDMA are two HUGE ones. Why are they illegal? Marijuana is a CLASS ONE drug!!!! LOL how is that even remotely possible????

  • Minarchist Dec 14, 3:56 p.m.

"I am happy that they busted stores that sold 3,200 packets of bath salts which make me go crazy and commit murder."

So does Fluoxetine and many other mental medications. Are you picketing Walgreens? If bath salts make you go crazy and commit murder why dont you put them down. Its called personal responsibility. Laws mandating what people put in their own bodies is a lost cause. You think drug use is DOWN? LOL

You want to legalize copyright infringement? Why? Those companies worked hard to put a name on a quality product. Why do you think its ok to steal those ideas?

  • Minarchist Dec 14, 2:54 p.m.

Do the Raleigh police have nothing better to do. Read today's headlines...kids, one 13, some 15, murdered a man and dumped him in a trash can in Raleigh. So the police were busy planning this ridiculous bust while that was happening. POLICE...GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!!!!!

  • Minarchist Dec 14, 2:53 p.m.

Im all for leaving the drugs alone. You cant go around counterfeiting and stealing trademarks. I dont think "Coke" puts their name on products to hide dope in. Or WD-40. These items may cause no harm, but counterfeiting is a huge market and very dangerous when it comes to auto parts or even shoes.

  • so you dont like my opinion ok Dec 14, 2:17 p.m.

    POLICE...GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!!!!! jscott13

Do you think they only have a couple of police? They have to deal with lots of different situations and quit frankly I am happy that they busted stores that sold 3,200 packets of bath salts which make me go crazy and commit murder. Maybe you need to get YOUR priorities straight...

What the comments seem to miss is this raid was supportive of CAPITALISM and went for Copyright Infringement not drug bust. If I have an idea, Sears can't take it overseas and make a counterfeit with off-shore labor costing the American company making the American developed and American labor produced tool -- don't buy Craftsman.

Busting smoke shops is 20th century ignorance. In the 21st century marijuana will become legalized.

Why are the police chasing smoke shops instead of chasing bad drivers that represent a REAL problem? I am very disappointed in the police.

  • dcatz Dec 14, 12:03 p.m.

Once again, the state demonstrates that it is little more than a gang of criminal thieves. Each and every police officer that participated in this "raid" is guilty of breaking-and-entering and grand theft and should be treated as any common criminal would be.

  • carrboroyouth Dec 14, 12:00 p.m.

  • davidgnews Dec 14, 11:51 a.m.

If you are on a jury for any of these charges rule not guilty. It is your constitutional right to send a message that these laws are bad. It's call jury nullification and was used often during prohibition.

    +1

Jury nullification was also used many times in Colorado, and had a great influence on the decriminalization.

  • wheelofvoter Dec 14, 11:49 a.m.

On what grounds was a search warrant authorized? Suspicion of selling products that you are in plain view? What were they looking for? Could they not buy the products and test them without the strongarming? Which judge signed this search warrant? Will Wake County/Raleigh judges sign any search warrant request or do they apply critical thinking? How about solving the murder of that man on the Walnut Creek Greenway? Maybe you can search his house for bath salts? Yes, I am being facetious. Let's use our energy to make Raleigh safer.

  • radium Dec 14, 11:47 a.m.

The local Gestapo, frustrated that the hippies are getting pot legalized in other parts of the country, are grasping at straws to harass the citizens and show who's boss around here. Can't bust the shop for selling pipes because they can be used for "tobacco" so they cook up this abuse of power to bully the tax paying businesses. I second the suggestion to send the message to Sheriff Donnie Harrison that you will be voted out of a job for bullying law abiding citizens and wasting tax payer dollars like this. Why aren't you busting the murders and muggers? Oh, because they shoot back, that's why. Pot smokers never put up a fight. Typical ex school yard bullies now pretending to be cops that care about the community. Raleigh has become a very uncool place to live and I'm moving.

  • sjb2k1 Dec 14, 11:44 a.m.

glad the shop i frequent isn't on this list

and that's because they do things by the book

  • ICTrue Dec 14, 11:40 a.m.

  • pooodaddy Dec 14, 11:36 a.m.

Whoah! Good thing cause we didn't want the NFL loosing money on glass pipes now did we?

  • bfry40 Dec 14, 11:10 a.m.

brad7976 I agree, but they will not go after the big box stores, it is much easier to go after the mom and pop businesses. As we have been told, mom and pop did not grow the business, the government did, and what a whopping job they have done.

  • Tax Man Dec 14, 10:47 a.m.

Time for NC to come into the 21st century. Legalize Pot for any use, tax it, regulate it like we do alcohol and get the criminals out of the system. As to the "counterfeit" stuff - that stuff is everywhere you would think that imitation is the highest form of flattery - these products and sports teams should be happy they are being publicly advertised! If they took a real soda can and used it to make the stash holder I see no problem - only if they are manufacturing items and putting them out as being from the teams or from the manufacturers where they are not. So much hoopla over such little garbage. While these fine law enforcement folks were taking care of these misdemeanants I am sure a few hundred felonies were being committed nearby....proper resource allocation???

  • brand7976 Dec 14, 10:30 a.m.

Big Lots sells the fake soda can safes too. I demand for Big Lots to be raided and all its employees arrested.

    "Wake County SO"

Maybe we need to elect a sheriff that fights real crime. Wanna bet the salts and artificial stuff is a different chemical that what is banned. That's how China rolls. Ban one chemical and they've got 30 more to spray on the stuff.

Just legalize real pot, tax it, and stop giving China $ for poison.
