Yes let us just let the children be as ignorant as their parents.

  • Reformed Liberal Dec 12, 12:34 p.m.

I dare anyone here to go to a group or nursing home to tell them that you don't care about them. I want you to record it and put it YouTube so the whole world will know where you stand.

    @charmcclainlovesdogs2

You cruel, cruel person. How can you state "They have family"?

    NOT EVERYONE HAS FAMILY.

I can certainly see why you love dogs, no one else would put up with you.

"Medicaid should not longer exist and never should have existed."

A 34 year old man has been diagnosed with cancer. His parents have already passed away and have no other family. While suffering through his illness, he is not able to work.
To add to his suffering, you want to take away his ability to get the medical treatment he needs. You want to take away any income assistance so he can eat. You are telling him that you don't care about him. You are telling him that you hope that he rots in the street just so your taxes on your million dollar income wont go up.

"NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY WITH THEIR HEALTH AND MENTAL ISSUES. THEY HAVE FAMILY; SO START THERE."

These special people certainly needs a place call home to go. How can certain people be so cruel to people that is in need. Do they know what will happen to them tomorrow? Is Jesus please in how they are handling this matter? They should really rethink on this.

  • momeeee Dec 12, 10:30 a.m.

Funny how Bev can find money to help her "legacy" look good but can't seem to help the people that are looked over on a daily basis and really count on help.

"Medicaid should not longer exist and never should have existed."

Why do we need Medicaid AND 0bamacare? The achievers are going to pay for ThePoor either way."

So you are saying that someone who is totally disabled should just rot away? Such a black heart you have.

"Too bad some you libs homes are not as big as your hearts and your mouths or you could take some of these folks in."

How many are you taking in?

  • nic Dec 12, 9:06 a.m.

Medicaid is a wonderful program if so many didn't abuse it, just like many of our entitlement programs. The sad thing here is that many of these folks that live in group homes are mentally ill. They cannot be housed in nursing homes with the elderly, there are no beds available in our state hospitals and now there will be no money to house them in group homes. So where will they live...maybe they can live in the new Dix Park. Taking 20 million from DHHS to fund preschool but no money can be shifted to help those who are mentally ill? How's that mental health reform working. Hopefully the new gov will fix the mess Bev has left.

  • takeabathgreg Dec 11, 6:48 p.m.

well if so many people did not scam the system then perhaps those that actually need the help would have the funding to get it

  • Rebelyell55 Dec 11, 6:48 p.m.

The shame of it is that abuse of the system has created this. So now those in need don't have the resources that someone stole. This just another sign of what the citizens should expect in the future as they push more and more onto the states in the name of cuts. These "cuts" will be passed onto the citizens of each state, mainly the middle class. While they're "discussing" this in Washington, you can bet on one thing, your're taxes will go up, might not be Feds, but state and local for sure.

  • Crumps Br0ther Dec 11, 6:44 p.m.

  • lilylogansmom Dec 11, 6:22 p.m.

those in group homes are in group homes for a reason. They do daily living skills, money management skills, job coaching, etc. But also what people dont realize is the people that are in the individual group homes are like family to one another, some dont have a mother or father or any siblings, others, well they are ignored or just simply forgotten about by there families. Either way, if they dont fix this issue soon, there are gonna be alot of people without homes, and thats a very scary thing, not only to typical adults, but to ones with mental disabilities its very scary. Please keep these people in your prayers.

  • TriangleMommy Dec 11, 6:21 p.m.

And yes my child is totally disabled. Medicaid is essential to her. Not only does it provide medical care, but it allows for equipment that insurance won't otherwise pay for. Insurance won't allow but for a pitiful # of therapy sessions a year. Medicaid allows her to get the therapy she needs to make any developmental progress.

  • TriangleMommy Dec 11, 6:18 p.m.

you people who say Medicaid should not exist are heartless!

Oh how I wish I could properly educate you on who Medicaid can help. But there is no help for any of you. And frankly what I would want to say would never get past the censors.

Walk a mile in my shoes or the shoes of some of my friends. Then talk to me.

Otherwise - take a trip to the fiery pit of eternity.

"So sad. I wouldn't want to see anyone living in a group home, put out on the street. I hope some solution can be reached, where that does not happen. "

Just think Bev took 20 million from the DHSS to pay for the baby-sitting stuff, next she gave away 20 million worth of taxpayer owned land to a museum, then she cut that miserable deal with the city of Raleigh. So when it comes down to it, the lefties do not actually care about anyone.

  • storchheim Dec 11, 6:01 p.m.

If there's anyone left in charge at DHHS, do they still "want more and more people on Medicaid" as per Tara Larson, chief something or other, March 2011?

  • Tax Man Dec 11, 6:00 p.m.

Medicaid should be limited to 6 months and fully repaid within 5 years. Now, if a person is totally disabled and not able to care for themselves we should help them, but able bodied folks who can work need to support themselves and families need to support their members! Welfare is ONLY for the very few Americans who cannot care for themselves and have not family to take care of them! I see so many folks living on the public dole who should be out working, paying taxes and supporting themselves and their families. Should be a felony to fail to support yourself or your family if able! Government should only be there to take care of those who absolutely cannot care for themselves and have no parents, siblings, grandparents who are able to support them.

So sad. I wouldn't want to see anyone living in a group home, put out on the street. I hope some solution can be reached, where that does not happen.

I think the elderly, Veterans and those in group homes, should always have help available, if needed.

  • retiredindependentpopo Dec 11, 5:47 p.m.

I don't mind helping the mentally or physically challenged with assistance at all. That is our moral obligation. But I do mind having to pay for a group home resident that is the defiant, will not listen, "beaviorally challenged" child of a sorry parent who will not take care of their own child. Get the courts to stick'm in a group home. Well, sorry, but it's not my place to pay for that.

  • retiredindependentpopo Dec 11, 5:38 p.m.

"It is a fact that the food stamp program is at risk of being cut by the GOP in Congress. There is also very little evidence of fraud in that program."

Now I know for a fact that is not "true" and you should be ashamed for this statement. I see it every day where I work! NO FOODSTAMP FRAUD?!!! Are you kidding?

  • retiredindependentpopo Dec 11, 5:33 p.m.

First look at these group homes and the money they make. If I own a second home that I can modify to house and "room" 6 to 9 special needs folks, how much can I make a month? And don't give me a bunch of spin. How much does each one of these folks have to pay out a month from their benefits? Someone tell me some figures.

    "Thrown into the street".

Funny, every time the lib press seeks to protect the precious entitlement society from any review or curtailment, it is always a huge catastrophe with folks being thrown to the curb, children starving, sick folks left in the street, etc.

    aetius476"

Yes well if the needy can not afford bread, let them eat cake; right?

  • junk999 Dec 11, 5:22 p.m.

aetius476 - And of course you have evidence that the facts quoted in the story are untrue? So thousands of people with disabilities aren't at risk of losing a place to stay? You can make any assertion, but for credibility you need to provide evidence the article is false.

It is a fact that the food stamp program is at risk of being cut by the GOP in Congress, and much of that assistance goes to children. There is also very little evidence of fraud in that program. But I guess is best to err on the side of saving a few bucks than to make sure we are protecting the most vulnerable.

    http://feedingamerica.org/how-we-fight-hunger/programs-and-services/public-assistance-programs/supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program/snap-myths-realities.aspx

Where do you think the most money is wasted? Government defense contracts, or food and shelter for those in real need?

  • junk999 Dec 11, 5:14 p.m.

People with physical and mental disabilities pushed out on the street, while the GOP holds the entire country hostage fighting to protect taxes for the very wealthiest. That's the kind of society you want? The richest country in the world and this is the best we can do? We are seeing the agenda of the GOP in action.

"A society will be judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members."

the whole state should go to taking baths once a month. imagine the water that we would save. if everyone did it then no one would notice.

  • Gork Dec 11, 4:54 p.m.

    Unbelieveable.

  • werewolfwoman Dec 11, 4:53 p.m.

Absolutely amazing. Governor Perdue had the executive power to magically find $20,000,000 to fund thousands of new slots for preschoolers but she doesn't have the power or the resources to keep the most vulnerable citizens in this state from becoming homeless. And then there was her authority to use an executive order to decide for the entire state what to do with the most valuable piece of real estate in Raleigh. Is there any reason she could not have split that newly found $20,000,000 between the two to prevent this from happening?

  • piene2 Dec 11, 4:50 p.m.

I hope that the cuts are restored. If not it will cost government a lot more in the long run. Or on the other hand the Me, me, me people could just throw them out on the streets and let them die.

  • anonemoose Dec 11, 4:41 p.m.

Same story as last week, and they will run it again next week. Ho-hum, so much for breaking news.
