"That was a cop-wannabe-vigilante that thought he was the local law," More like tax paying citizen tired of having his neighborhood robbed. Nice try though! LOL!

lightfoot3 - oh the guy who was beaten by that kid? oh yea I remember that and still see the pics of his bloody head to this day...

"he would wish he had never heard of BB guns. Not a fan" - Got Peart

Totally understand. Some kids are very dangerous with BB guns. But with proper adult supervision, training, and common sense, BB guns can be a lot of fun. I've owned one since I was 10 years old and I still occasionally shoot cans off my back deck.

"maybe it's someone that works for a Car glass repair place?" - SouthernPackerFan

    Funny!

"All you "Citizen Watch" people do realize that a Citizen Watch is what happened in Florida, with a dead teen and "watch" guy in jail." - r u crazy too

That was a cop-wannabe-vigilante that thought he was the local law, that broke all the rules of the "Citizen Watch" and ignored 911 instructions. Real Citizen Watch groups, that watch and report if they see suspicious activity, are quite effective.

  • Got Peart Dec 12, 5:21 p.m.

We've had kids walking around our neighborhood with BB guns that look like assault rifles. They fire into the woods, (which just happen to be in line with a greenway that many in our neighborhood use) - inlcuding me. I take my dog on walks along that path, and my 16 month old daughter.

Cops have been called out a few times because the gun looks real. Somebody will take matters into their own hands, and it could get bad. Especially if these fools keep shooting to a heavily used public walkway. I can tell you this - if he had fired and come near my daughter - he would wish he had never heard of BB guns.

    Not a fan

  • SouthernPackerFan Dec 12, 3:44 p.m.

expect anyone not to defend themselves in a situation such as that.

    Car 54

i would be more afraid of my neighbor outside in the early morning hours packing heat, and shooting at a moving target
    to boot....

  • smegma Dec 12, 3:43 p.m.

hahaha reminds me of my childhood. good times. can't wait to hear the peanut gallery propose a political solution to this epidemic

maybe it's someone that works for a Car glass repair place?

  • liberalmindset Dec 12, 3:29 p.m.

well unless you wanna waste tax payer money on funding additional cops to sit in front of your house, I suggest you call in...nobody said go out and shoot at them...

  • r u crazy too Dec 12, 2:53 p.m.

All you "Citizen Watch" people do realize that a Citizen Watch is what happened in Florida, with a dead teen and "watch" guy in jail.

  • liberalmindset Dec 12, 2:40 p.m.

it would be almost impossible for the cops to catch whoever is doing this unless they are there exactly when it happens...citizens must call in when they see it, obviously

  • liberalmindset Dec 12, 2:38 p.m.

babedan-2 to 5 in a jail cell? keep dreaming...lucky if they get probation or have to pay for the damages (if they have any money)

  • Nancy Dec 12, 12:47 p.m.

"Citizens watch? No. All it takes is a chance encounter and your whole world can be ruined. Leave it to, and fund, law enforcement. "

I disagree completely. There are not enough police to put the eyes/ears out there to catch this juvenile. It's going to be up to the residents to be where the police can't be and call it in with good information so he/she/it/they can be caught.

  • babedan Dec 12, 12:32 p.m.

I hope if it's a child the parents have to pay out the nose and if it's an adult, then they not only pay out the nose to reimburse the victims but they spend at least 2 to 5 in a nice jail cell.

  • Just Plain Common Sense Dec 12, 12:05 p.m.

Citizens watch? No. All it takes is a chance encounter and your whole world can be ruined. Leave it to, and fund, law enforcement. Or you could be like whoever it was and the famous quote: Remember? "...he could be my son..." ? Never mind all that. take care of your own selves...as best as you can. you know what is weird? A funny thing... I keep seeing those hoodies at virtually every robbery, kidnapping or other crimes reported. My own security system has caught a few of them by my house and my vehicle at 4:45 am, in the morning.

  • Just Plain Common Sense Dec 12, 12:00 p.m.

...and mine were parked in my driveway. Worked hard for what I have, sometimes, 2 to 3 jobs when I could. The insurance deductibles, time, and fear these people cause is just without any justification. How ABOUT THIS? If it is not yours, don't touch it, don't mess with people just because you might be a jealous, vindictive, angry person. Go out like I did, and work 3 shifts for a few months and pay for what you get. Nobody gave me anything. What I have I worked and saved, and scrimped for, and ate rice and beans to get. Shame on criminals.

  • Minarchist Dec 12, 11:37 a.m.

  • Made In USA Dec 12, 9:57 a.m.

One way to put an end to this would be to form a citizen's watch group where one person in each neighborhood takes turns waiting for the vandals to arrive during the night. Come on Cary neighbor's let's unite. This is a good place to meet. Count me in... anyone else?

  • twoods7 Dec 12, 9:11 a.m.

"NO, NO NO, NOT IN CARY... Guess all those little kids are growing up now and are bored on the postage stamp yard and beige houses. Just looking for something to do! They would go to the park but they put a strip mall in its place....." - cantbtaught

What's your point??? You post makes as much sense as a martini plunger...

  • Rebelyell55 Dec 12, 9:08 a.m.

Durn kids.......I hope they get caught soon. Why vandalism is the activity of choice by so many kids these days is beyond me.

    Obama still stinks
December 11, 2012 3:47 p.m............Don't assume it's kids, I remember 20 some years ago, it was some twenty something year olds going around drinking and doing this.

  • Trekker Dec 12, 9:01 a.m.

“And I hope a law abiding gun owner would know they can't shoot someone to protect property in NC. Only if the person with the BB was shooting at a person would this be a legal defense situation. If you're for gun rights, don't promote such unlawful gun owner behavior.” Smcallah

Here’s a scenario to ponder. You’re outside of your home when you hear an approaching vehicle. Turning you notice a gun barrel protruding from the window of the vehicle. As your adrenaline skyrockets you realize that there is some kind of weapon pointed in your general direction and in a matter of milliseconds, in the dark, you need to determine if it is loosely pointed at you or if it is being brought to bear against you AND determine whether or not it’s an air rifle (remember that some air rifles have muzzle velocities in excess of 1600 fps).
I believe it would be extremely unreasonable to expect anyone not to defend themselves in a situation such as that.

  • Road-wearier Dec 12, 8:34 a.m.

Probably some bored kids from one of the wealthier neighborhoods...seems to typically be the case. I live inside the Maynard loop and *was* parking my car on the street. Not anymore...

  • JustAName Dec 12, 8:34 a.m.

"The town of Cary continues to move towards lawlessness." - Its the who what

I agree. First it started with "tagging", then it moved on to garage thefts and now it is property destruction. Cary should stop wasting money on walking trails and start cracking down on thefts and vandalism.

  • same ole story Dec 12, 8:28 a.m.

NO, NO NO, NOT IN CARY... Guess all those little kids are growing up now and are bored on the postage stamp yard and beige houses. Just looking for something to do! They would go to the park but they put a strip mall in its place.....

  • btneast Dec 12, 8:25 a.m.

Top that off with the fact that the seal is not made anymore, so I can't buy a new one.

    Try a junk yard?

  • shannonatlanticvend Dec 12, 8:19 a.m.

I live right off Maynard and I heard the BB gun shots a few nights ago myself! It woke me out of a dead sleep. Now I know what it was about! I hope CPD catches these criminals!

  • liberalmindset Dec 11, 5:47 p.m.

prison for this? drug violations don't even warrant prison...multiple ones at that...they will get probation, pay for it tops...

  • Tax Man Dec 11, 5:17 p.m.

If this fool comes around here he may get the receiving end of my Colt 45 M1911 that will surely outweigh his BB gun! All of us in Cary hope that our fine CPD will catch this mindless creep and send him off to prison for a few years! Thanks to the Cary Police Department and Merry Christmas to all.

  • liberalmindset Dec 11, 4:57 p.m.

pretty safe city when this is all you have to worry about....and no, there is no drug problem in cary ;)

  • smith98000 Dec 11, 4:10 p.m.

The Cary Police need to get on this instead of hanging out at convenient stores! Like someone stated earlier that is a bad expense right before the Holidays!

  • dwntwnboy Dec 11, 3:51 p.m.

The "bandit" needs to watch A Christmas Story....those things are dangerous!! He could shoot his eye out!! LOL

Come on censors- this isn't bad- let it through!!

  • Unfair Moderators Stink Dec 11, 3:48 p.m.

"The town of Cary continues to move towards lawlessness."

    Drama much?

  • Unfair Moderators Stink Dec 11, 3:47 p.m.

Durn kids.......I hope they get caught soon. Why vandalism is the activity of choice by so many kids these days is beyond me.

  • tbfromnc Dec 11, 3:17 p.m.

why does this headline contain the word "Bandit" when nothing has been stolen?

  • tbfromnc Dec 11, 3:14 p.m.

It's only a matter of time until a homeowner encounters this person and mistakes the BB gun for a real weapon pointed at them and take action with a real gun.

  • GravyPig Dec 11, 3:05 p.m.

"hope they catch this person and he or she has to work 3 jobs to pay for all the glass they shot out"

Yep, fortunately I have a spare piece of door glass and can install it myself. Unfortunately it is slightly different in shape and now it doesn't seal against the old door seal. Top that off with the fact that the seal is not made anymore, so I can't buy a new one. Now I am wrestling with the decision to get rid of this car since I can't park it in the rain without water getting in and I'll have to deal with tons of wind noise while driving.

  • MinivanHalen Dec 11, 3:05 p.m.

Thanks for the shot out window pal, nothing like a $250 glass bill right before Christmas.

  • GravyPig Dec 11, 3:00 p.m.

"what happened to toilet paper in trees and a burning bag of waste matter?"

Apparently it's not destructive enough for someone.

  • st5937 Dec 11, 2:45 p.m.

BB GUN OR NOT THINK ABOUT WHAT A POLICE OFFICE WILL DO
IF THE SAME BB GUN IS POINTED AT THEM..

  • what_in_the____ Dec 11, 2:01 p.m.

My professional opinion, BB guns look real in the dark.

  • smith98000 Dec 11, 2:00 p.m.

They better not go to Walmart in Cary the cops are always hanging out the parking lot there all night.

  • Falcon93 Dec 11, 1:49 p.m.

Well said lrakydarb2............these punks should really consider the new changes in effective for defending ones property and self while feeling threatened.

I hope they are caught quickly and dealt with severely

  • smcallah Dec 11, 1:48 p.m.

"I hope this "gentlemen or gentlewoman" (BTW, GOLO censor, this would be a great reason to allow the word "toidi" spelleed correctly to be used) doesn't shoot out anything on the property of someone with a loaded 12-gauge."

And I hope a law abiding gun owner would know they can't shoot someone to protect property in NC. Only if the person with the BB was shooting at a person would this be a legal defense situation.

If you're for gun rights, don't promote such unlawful gun owner behavior.

hope they catch this person and he or she has to work 3 jobs to pay for all the glass they shot out

  • JDAmbrosio Dec 11, 1:41 p.m.

Kids today have no restraint. Go take your bb gun and head to the woods. You don't target innocent people and their cars, wth!
