Good thing she claimed it this year or Obama would have increased the tax owed. She has gone from a nice woman to an evil millionare that needs to pay more taxes. (at least that's how our government looks at it)

  • Scubagirl Dec 10, 2012

I agree, not a millionaire, but still a lot of money. Congrats to her!

  • JoCo50 at MXR Dec 10, 2012

Only the government could give someone a check for $408,000 and tell them that now they were a millionaire.

She's only a millionaire if she already had $600,000.

  • ncrebel Dec 10, 2012

That is win one million dollars and you get to take home $408,006.00???

Follow the money. I would demand to know exactly where the money went in Robeson County School System.

  • Pseudonym Dec 10, 2012

Last I checked, a net worth of $408,006 does not make one a millionaire.

    Not even a half millionaire.

Actually, NCPictures, since this income source won't continue, she won't be taxed at the higher tax rate after the tax year 2012, assuming she makes less than $250k annually.

  • Uhavenoclu Dec 10, 2012

She has had the ticket same with the $4 m winner. Now would be a good time to cash it in.

  • kbrianf Dec 10, 2012

"Officials said Evans chose to take her winnings as a $600,000 lump sum rather than an annuity paid out over 20 years. After withholdings, she received a check for $408,006."

Ummm, she's already paid her taxes and gotten her money, NCPictures.

  • NCPictures Dec 10, 2012

Congratulations, you are now one of the (according to "our" President) hated rich that will have a higher tax rate. Good luck getting even half of that money.
