Glad to hear this! If they behave like rabid dogs, they should be treated like rabid dogs - regardless of their age. PERIOD!!!

Praying for those who loved their victim.

"Previously because they have not been able to be tried as adults these kids have been sent out by older ones to do the crime because of that very fact." Scubagirl

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! Nice catch and true. Adults use kids as drug mules too.

  • torchhappysean Dec 7, 1:06 p.m.

Kudos to the lawmakers for finally doing something right!! To the critics who say "they're too youg" stop and think about these two facts: 1. How old were YOU when YOU learned murdering someone in cold blood was wrong? 2. Gangs use underage kids to do their driveby killings and murders BECAUSE they stand a good chance of not really facing any sort of REAL punishment (juvenille prison until they are 18) and their juvenille records are sealed when they reach 18. Does 5yrs seem like adequate punishment for murder? It doesn't to me!!!

  • Jimmytwotimes Dec 7, 12:41 p.m.

put them away forever they do not value life and have murderous instict in them. Green rd area needs to be cleaned up big time, there is no room in raleigh for these people.

  • coats78 Dec 7, 12:22 p.m.

So, I'm just curious... All these individuals who are crying about a 13 and a 15 year old being tried as an adult, do you people seriously think that they just made a "booboo", a lil mistake? I'm sorry, but after reading a lot of these comments, I can easily see why the world is falling apart.

  • heisenberg Dec 7, 11:43 a.m.

There's part of the problem larterl - what parents? They need to locked up for life.

  • Fireflies Rock Dec 7, 11:34 a.m.

what's an 18 year old woman doing riding around with 13 & 15 year old boys, and how would they even know the victim was from a "rival gang"? My understanding is they're from Wake Forest and weren't at the same school as the victim. Horrible that kids that young are already in gangs...how do their parents not know this?!

  • rk1115 Dec 7, 11:23 a.m.

    Wow.. unreal.

Age 21 = You can drink
Age 18 = You can vote / fight for country
Age 16 = You can drive
Age 13 = You're an adult but can't do any of the above.

Something is seriously wrong with society and the laws

  • free2bme Dec 7, 10:55 a.m.

There is a lot wrong with out justice system. These brothers were riding around with a gun, they have a witness that was with them, and a dead body. How much more is needed? It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out deliberate and premeditated. Our justice system needs some real changes.

  • jrfergerson Dec 7, 10:49 a.m.

Defense attorneys for the brothers argued that the state did not show probable cause that the shooting was first-degree murder. "There's not enough evidence to prove that he acted with premeditation and deliberation," attorney Mike Klinkosum said of his 13-year-old client. Sorry Mr. Kilnkosum but 13 year olds of today are much wiser to the ways of the world than we think and if one commits an adult crime he/she should be prosecuted as an adult. Murder is murder and any 13 knows that. Perhaps this sentence might just get the message to others that at any age - actions can have consequences.

  • so you dont like my opinion ok Dec 7, 10:32 a.m.

Really this is so sad and disgusting, guns and drugs, both go hand in hand and are destroying the world.

  • bill0 Dec 7, 10:24 a.m.

"So they didn't deliberately drive around looking to shoot someone down? What where they doing? Looking for ice cream"

Actually, they were at the apartment building dropping one of the teen girl's baby off with her mother. So, no, they weren't looking for icecream NOR were they driving around just looking for someone to shoot.

These kids are obviously a whole lot of trouble - gangs, drugs, guns, pregnant teens, breaking into vacant homes, and then they killed someone. What they did is bad enough on its own without having to invent details to make them look worse.

  • Whatever27 Dec 7, 10:19 a.m.

The punishment should fit the crime.

  • driverkid3 Dec 7, 10:05 a.m.

paulacapell::::If a 13 to 15 yr old can be tried as an adult...they can have sex as an adult!! It's one or the other!!! And the DA is applying the "Law" at his will!!

There is a HUGE difference in having sex and taking a life. If you think there isn't, then you're WAY too immature to be doing much of anything.

denial? No denial is wasting your vote think it will make a difference. Hows yoru buddy Ron Paul doing by the way? You abandoned him pretty fast

  • same ole story Dec 7, 8:32 a.m.

Its about time!! if they are not taught in the home then the strets, I mean prison, will be their parents. Reality is the great awakeing for the parents that don't care about their kids!!!! You want to be a big man then take the punishment like a big man!!! On the bright side the parents can be sending in cartons a cigarettes for payments to their boys for a little more yard time.

  • delta29alpha Dec 7, 8:31 a.m.

Anyone by age 13 should know that murder is wrong and illegal regardless of maturity. There is nothing complicated about the concept.

  • jackcdneh1017 Dec 7, 8:27 a.m.

I too believe that a 13 year old who commits an adult crime can be prosecuted as an adult. Murder is murder and all know by 13 that this is completely wrong. 13 year olds of today are much wiser to the ways of the world than we think. But there cannot be any double standard. If a 13 year old can be held accountable in this way for their actions, that same 13 year old who participates in other adult activities such as sex should not be protected by the law either. I say 13 is a good age to declare anyone " adult"

  • Minarchist Dec 7, 8:25 a.m.

Gang members are like cockroaches.... for every one you stomp, there's ten more crawling under the door. Having said that, the world just got alittle better when we can sentence teens as adults now. It truly is beginning to look alot like Christmas!

  • JohnnyVoodoo Dec 7, 8:11 a.m.

Many say that the death penalty is not a deterrent to crime. I say it is. For example, if these two young men get the gas chamber or lethal injection, one thing is for certain....these two young men will NEVER do any harm to anyone else EVER again. And THAT is what The Voodoo Man calls a deterrent to crime.

  • Crumps Br0ther Dec 7, 8:10 a.m.

That will make an acquittal far more likely. Rational people do not want to see immature kids punished as mature adults.

  • Uhavenoclu Dec 6, 7:40 p.m.

So these teens can be tried as adults but if a friends or lovers 18 th birthday was a few days before theirs and they had a little fling which isn't harmful. They would still be considered teens?

If a 16 yr old is considered mature enough to drive a car, they're mature enough to face the consequences of all their actions.

  • backwards Dec 6, 7:11 p.m.

I deal with juveniles like this all the time and the word out is that you can do whatever you want before you turn 16 and your record will be wiped clean. These 2 should be tried as adults so that the word out changes. Some of you people make me sick with your liberal views. You'd be singing a different tune if your child was a victim.

  • storchheim Dec 6, 6:52 p.m.

rachel, did your kids murder anyone and laugh about his agony later while cleaning the weapon?

Would you still fret fret fret over the poor widdle "immature processes" of their itty bitty feewings if it was one of your kids killed for fun?

  • paulacapell Dec 6, 6:46 p.m.

It's amazing to me how these two "children" are mature enough to kill another human being AND the DA judges their actions that of an adult....but when a 13 or 15 yr old decide to have sex willingly they are all of a sudden "innocent children"!!!!! B4 anyone says I am comparing apples and oranges....I'm not!! If a 13 to 15 yr old can be tried as an adult...they can have sex as an adult!! It's one or the other!!! And the DA is applying the "Law" at his will!!

......Base on history, that is just the opposite, and certainly should be to send a message to other teen that their action can have consequences. Even if it just drive to point home to a few. Sadly, these teen most likely never picked up a paper or read about any laws. What they learned was from their warpped minded peers.....

"That will make an acquittal far more likely. Rational people do not want to see immature kids punished as mature adults."

You mean, LIBERAL people would rather hold anyone accountable. I'm quite rational, very educated, well traveled, with a high IQ. In short, a Liberal's nemesis.

  • rachel Dec 6, 6:38 p.m.

I really do agree with everyone about trying them as adults- but I am remembering my own kids at 13 and there was a tremendous degree of immaturity and impetuousness and I have to wonder if these kids really do process things and feel things the exact same way adults do-I am not so sure- however, reform school till they are 18 isn't the answer either-there must be some serious punishment tied to this crime

  • Scubagirl Dec 6, 6:38 p.m.

AND if they try these kids as adults and give them adult sentences, maybe-just maybe-it will help. Previously because they have not been able to be tried as adults these kids have been sent out by older ones to do the crime because of that very fact. A message has GOT to be sent that we the RATIONAL people of this state are tired of the killing and the gangs and want something done. Trying kids as adults....oh well too bad, so sad-they should have been studying instead of pulling triggers.

  • Scubagirl Dec 6, 6:28 p.m.

"That will make an acquittal far more likely. Rational people do not want to see immature kids punished as mature adults."

Rational people do want to see killers punished appropriately for their crimes. Kiddies masquerading as adults want to pretend that these people do not know what they are doing. They DO and they do it with intent. Assuming they are guilty, these two committed murder. If convicted, they should be immediately executed. But no, let us pretend they are just kiddies, and watch more of their buddies continue to kill other people. That certainly is the RATIONAL thing to do.

  • CarolinianByChoice Dec 6, 5:20 p.m.

Whoever provided these two access to the vehicle and the gun needs to be brought up on charges too. Charging a 13 year old as an adult would normally give one pause but he was with his older brother who should have known better and the 13 year old was the one shooting. What the heck is this world coming to? (No answer needed, rhetorical question)
