MitziGaynor: "...NO STUCKHERE...man has a choice of robbing and killing. Whether it be with their own hands, or anything that can be used as a weapon. ANYTHING. You will NEVER unarm Americans...."

Was that your retort to my comment? Really? Yikes.

  • PowderedToastMan Dec 7, 2012

MitziGaynor-- c'mon man..blaming Obama for this? Really? As if robbiers never happened before??! And as if the perp would ever try to find a real job??!

  • Lovemy2kids Dec 7, 2012

Thank goodness they were not hurt.

  • Huey Dec 7, 2012

"plain & simple...we are not tough enough on crime. guaranteed this perp has some record & should've been locked up long ago.
    - autismawareness" That sums it up in a nutshell. The so called justice system is not working. And as the economy gets worse crime will increase. I sure hope things get better but considering the actions of those in Washington I wouldn't bet on it.

  • free2bme Dec 7, 2012

It is so sad- mitzigaynor- how all the problems in this world are President Obama's fault. It just shows how some people only blame and point fingers, just full of negativity-so unnecessary. The bad thing is that some crazy drug addict violated these elderly people and is still out there somewhere. The Perry's are in their 80's and appear to be good law biding citizens, they did not deserve this. My prayers are with them and I am glad they no additonal harm came to them. I also pray that that the police catch this thief before he harms someone else.

Unbroken: if the 84 y.o. couple were gun owners? Yup, bet they are the fastest draws in the west... so to speak.

You are clueless like most, I'm sure you'll recall A 92-year-old World War II veteran shot and killed a suspected robber who attempted to break into his Kentucky home Monday morning. Two other men believed to be involved in the botched home invasion are lucky to have escaped with their lives and are now behind bars. My favorite quote from him was "The only way you going to stop this is you have to leave one laying in the grass. That’s the only way you’re [going to] stop it,” Jones said.

  • MitziGaynor Dec 7, 2012

Love how most people are talking about guns. This guy was threatening rape and taking advantage of the elderly. He didn't need a gun to threaten them (one that I am sure is legal and all, lol) Once again, the new product of an immoral society and an Obama economy.

  • MitziGaynor Dec 7, 2012

tiddleywinx: "Knife, gun, golf club or just a plain ole' rock..."

Only one of those was made for the sole purpose of killing.

NO STUCKHERE...man has a choice of robbing and killing. Whether it be with their own hands, or anything that can be used as a weapon. ANYTHING. You will NEVER unarm Americans. Of course that is what Hitler did and you support that mentality. Figures.

"Wonder if this will finally show our legislators that we really need to get the knives off the streets here in NC. I mean, there may be thousands of places where you can walk in and buy a knife with no questions asked. No waiting period either. You don't even have to show an ID.
    hpr641"

So you think this couple would have been "better off" if the perp had a gun instead of a knife? Or maybe you think the outcome would have been different if the 84 y.o. couple were gun owners? Yup, bet they are the fastest draws in the west... so to speak.

atheistswillrule: "We ARE in the top 10 of firearm-related deaths"

Read the article, he was "brandishing a knife". At last check, a knife is not a firearm. Read UNC006, I believe this person articulates a similar message.

  • dontstopnow Dec 7, 2012

I have an 84 year old mother that sleeps with her gun beside her and knows how to use it well. And if by some chance an intruder would do this to her and catch her off guard, I would hunt him down and finish the job. The legal system just slaps their hand and lets them go to do it again. Laws should be much stiffer on crimes against the elderly! What a coward to pick on the elderly.

  • Unbroken Dec 7, 2012

"Get on your knees and pray that you may say something that makes sense next time. This is the couple robbed by knife blog...
    UNC006"

Right, but you will notice that some started posting first about "banning knives." So please don't start bashing someone for "trolling" when they are simply responding in kind.

  • btneast Dec 7, 2012

The USA is not in the top 10 list of many things, ie: Standard of Living, longevity, happiness quotient, scientific knowledge, etc. We ARE in the top 10 of firearm-related deaths. The only countries with more gun related deaths than the USA? Columbia, El Salvador, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Swaziland, Brazil, Panama and Mexico. Not very good company to be keeping. Canada has less than 1/2 our death rate, France, less than 1/3 our death rate. Way to go USA.

I wonder how many folks are trying to move to Canada and France, vs those trying to get into the U.S.? Overall, its still the most desired place to live. Lots of faults for sure, but overall, still better than most everywhere else.....

  • tiddleywinx Dec 6, 2012

Knife, gun, golf club or just a plain ole' rock, are in-animate objects/tools.Used improperly they all can be deadly. If someone chooses to do harm they will most likely do so with whatever they can get their hands on, being cowards by their very nature. That being said the advantage to the firearm is it does take the worry out of being close.
I have had the discipline over the past 60yrs., to study martial arts while in military(3rd degree blk.belt:karate /1st degree blk.belt:taekwondo) recently decided to study krav maga, not so easy with the age I am now but there are too many kooks on the streets anymore to just sit back and think LEO's are gonna protect you [the police ARE NOT under ANY obligation] to put themselves in harms way... so says the supreme{sic}court, don't be ignorant check this out for yourself.
As for me, if I also were given no other choice but to use a firearm, which I am well versed in... just to let perps know I do have plenty of "range bags" I'll be happy to cust

"The only countries with more gun related deaths than the USA? Columbia, El Salvador, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Swaziland, Brazil, Panama and Mexico." - atheistswillrule

Most of those countries either don't allow private firearm ownership at all (Mexico) or have much stricter gun laws than we do, so I guess the idea that banning guns stops gun crime looks rather idiotic in that light, doesn't it?

You realize this robber used a knife right? Just any opportunity I guess to spout gun control non-sense.

  • Tax Man Dec 6, 2012

Very happy they were not hurt. Hope the perp does get seriously hurt when the police arrest him. Also hope he gets to spend the rest of his life in prison. No place in society for people like him - just plain evil! Another reason why you need to have your gun available in your home so when these creeps come there you can solve the problem!

  • RM24 Dec 6, 2012

More and more crimes with knives! Why are we still allowing people to purchase them. We must remove all knives off the street and out of homes!

  • Frogm3n Dec 6, 2012

Glad thay are ok...This could have turn out much diffrently...Hope they catch the creep soon..

    Merry Christmas to all....

Good grief, threatening to rape 84 YO women. What happened to "it takes a village"?

  • kimballkaylie30 Dec 6, 2012

  • anne53ozzy Dec 6, 2012

I post this with some hesitation..however it may be time for the government to rethink drug addiction. Perhaps it is better to sustain addicts then have them prey on the elderly.

This guy is going to walk in the wrong home before too long and someone going to demonstrate to him the meaning of the Castle Doctrine...

  • iron fist Dec 6, 2012

I am glad the couple was not hurt physically, news reports stated they had heart issues I hope this has no effect on their overall health. No mercy for anyone abusing the elderly, children or women.

  • NCHighlander Dec 6, 2012

Glad their OK. Lets catch this scum and get him into the system so that he can live with people who think like him.

  • mommymatters Dec 6, 2012

Sounds exactly like the same guy who has been doing this in other areas, and has not yet been caught. He hit Fuquay this summer. Hope no one is seriously injured or killed before he is caught!!!

  • iron fist Dec 6, 2012

wrx44 Crime is up in Cary and Apex or the media just hasn't been reporting the past crimes. Cary and Apex are no safer then other towns/cities that's the reality.

  • southerntalent Dec 6, 2012

drug users have no respect for anyone ,including the elderly

  • charmcclainlovesdogs2 Dec 6, 2012

When is the last time anyone spent time at a nursing home?

    WageSlave

I frequently visit there all the time in my area. I even worked in one. By the way, I hope these don't think they will never become old. They will be in for a rude awakening. LOL

  • wrx44 Dec 6, 2012

Crime does happen everywhere, but it happens a lot less in Apex/Cary....why some posters want to disagree with reality is strange to me.

  • liskm Dec 6, 2012

Sad, sad, sad. Glad they weren't physically harmed, though I'm sure emotionally shaken up quite a bit. May the heartless perp be caught and locked away for a good while.

  • WageSlave Dec 6, 2012

Where is the respect for the elderly these days?
    charmcclainlovesdogs2

I think its best to judge civilization by how society treats it's elderly and environment. And I mean how the members of society treat them, not government programs. We simply depend on the EPA and SS to take care of everything.

When is the last time anyone spent time at a nursing home?

You are right and made a very good point. What was the media thinking? They was not.

  • Walkin Man Dec 6, 2012

Your right devilpride2012, it reads almost exactly like the story you mentioned. I'm not sure what the exact circumstances were here, but a lot of people leave their garage door open while they unload their groceries and bring them in the house. Stay in your car (hopefully your doors are locked!) and close the door behind you while you watch in your rear-view mirror to ensure no one has sneaks in behind you.

  • charmcclainlovesdogs2 Dec 6, 2012

    Time to ban knives!

If you ban knives, then you may as well go ahead and banned the guns. None of which is ever going to happen. They just need to get this criminals all the streets and into prison.

  • johnny2times Dec 6, 2012

    Glad the couple wasn't hurt

  • trishabatdorff Dec 6, 2012

Very happy, no one was injured. The scary part is if this man is not caught he will try again..desperate people do desperate things. I TRULY

  • johnny2times Dec 6, 2012

goes to show that crime DOES happen EVERYWHERE...where are all the Apex bashers now? Where are all the people that will be saying they moved from a high crime area to Apex to "get away from crime"? Wake up people!!! Crime happens EVERYWHERE!!

  • rescuefan Dec 6, 2012

I wish they hadn't provided the names and addresses of the victims. They are elderly and obviously live alone, which makes them vulnerable. Now anyone reading this story will know where they live.

  • trholt61 Dec 6, 2012

Indeed...hunt him down, put him in prison and throw away the key. Anyone who would do this to anyone - much less a senior citizen - is nothing but a criminal. So glad the homeowners were not harmed!

  • ladybug68 Dec 6, 2012

mommy to2monkeys...was just gonna log in and say the same thing--the FV robbery was a friend of mine!

  • Scubagirl Dec 6, 2012
