Thx God she survived this attack and thank God her co-worker intervened. So many ppl won't get involved for fear of their own safety but she stepped outside of herself and helped! She is a hero. Let that scum get the time he deserves....he stabbed this woman 8 times and ppl have the audacity 2 blame the victim. No one is perfect and everyone has made a poor choice. Stop judging situations you've never been it!

"Carrboy, we know this much about "the couple's" past: she either didn't bother to get to know him or she's the same trash that he is, because she spread her legs for him. Getting knocked up and stabbed by the same guy doesn't make her a saint. It makes her part of the problem. And we need to stop romanticizing this carp." -storcheim

How do you know this was consensual sexual relationship? I am not trying to romanticize or make her a saint but I am appalled at the victim-blaming on this board. Apparently it's all her fault that she has been stabbed eight times??

At least three other posts say "women need to stop hanging with men like this." How about "men need to stop killing their wives and girlfriends?" -- this is the fourth DV murder case in the news just this week.

I know people who have been in violent relationships. The psychology of it all is not so simple as so many on this forum believe.

  • mybusinesstoday Dec 6, 12:30 p.m.

@storchheim and @goalfinger belong together...you both act like this is a "victimless" crime. This woman, no matter her history, did not deserve to be brutalized! Obviously she had concerns about her well being when she broke up via a text instead of in person! What would you think if she had broken up in person? His rage would have been greater and we would be talking about the death of this young woman and her unborn child.

Calling her "trash"...wow, that is low and disgusting. I am in awe at your audacity to say such ignorant words.

  • larterl Dec 6, 10:58 a.m.

Kudos to Jennifer who put her own life in danger by stepping up and doing the right thing. She is a true hero and should be very proud of herself! It must have been terribly frightening and obviously dangerous; we need more people like her, who react to a threat and care about others.

  • mybusinesstoday Dec 6, 10:49 a.m.

@goalfinger...I bet you blame women that are raped because they wear a short skirt and smiled... I'm going to assume you are short on sense due to your comment...see how that works?

  • storchheim Dec 6, 10:39 a.m.

"eyesofgreen - something tells me that she was right to leave him! Would you want the father of your child to be someone capable of STABBING a loved one? You don't know this couple's past" carrbr.

Carrboy, we know this much about "the couple's" past: she either didn't bother to get to know him or she's the same trash that he is, because she spread her legs for him. A lot of victim blaming in this thread. Way to go, NC.

    Kudos, Ms. Heroine.
Good thoughts to the harmed woman and her child.

  • Rebelyell55 Dec 6, 9:03 a.m.

She is a hero, and he is a loser coward. Sending a Dear John text was most likely her safest option.

  • NC Reader Dec 6, 8:09 a.m.

There are more posts on here about how women shouldn't have loser/criminal boyfriends than there are about the point of the story: Jennifer Ruffin came to the defense of another woman by attacking the criminal who was stabbing her. Ms. Ruffin is an incredibly brave person to defend her co-worker against a vicious man with a knife. Not a lot of people, men or women, would have done what she did. She is a hero.

    KUDOS to her!!!

Praying for the mother and child, and that the book is thrown at the beast who attacked her.

  • goalflinger Dec 5, 6:32 p.m.

Something tells me she made a poor choice of texting. Kind of sounds to me that texting such a message showed no consideration of how it would be received, which further leads me to think that she may have planned all along to leave him and was using him as an avenue to child support payments with him out of the picture. None of this may be true, but it could be just as true as any of the other comments since we don't really know unless and until further information becomes available. In any event it is no excuse for physical violence. There is always two sides to any story. While it may be perfectly legal to use someone, lie to them and then walk out on them, it may not always be the safest thing to do.

eyesofgreen - something tells me that she was right to leave him! Would you want the father of your child to be someone capable of STABBING a loved one? You don't know this couple's past

Yet another incident of a man killing or attempting to kill his wife/girlfriend...

  • TITAN4X4 Dec 5, 5:49 p.m.

Wait for it!!! If he really intended on killing her he would have brought his RONCO six shooter knife set to do the job.

On a serious note, I do wish well to the victims, and hope that the boyfriend makes many new "friends" in his new home.

  • Uhavenoclu Dec 5, 5:48 p.m.

Relationships including marriage does not mean ownership, no one belongs to you and you don't belong too anyone. That is slavery.
You spend your time together to share love and to grow your love and enjoy your fine together and if the y time had come to move on then move on.

  • eyesofgreen Dec 5, 5:47 p.m.

Ms. Ruffin is definitely a hero, & I'm glad no one was hurt worse. But how would you feel if you recently found out your girlfriend was pregnant, you look forward to being a father then she dumps you? Just saying Ms. Lockley should think twice before making a baby with someone who might be crazy, violent or bent on being the only father in his child's life.

  • BIG_RELIGION_tiny_minds Dec 5, 5:42 p.m.

Pirate01, so if she'd married this guy that'd make it okay?

  • heelsgirl05 Dec 5, 5:39 p.m.

Whatdowehavehere, you are absolutely correct. I had to call the police two nights ago because somebody fired their shotgun from what sounded like 10 feet from my door. I called the cops and it took them 12 minutes to respond. All I could think of was how glad I was that person did not break into my house because I would have been hurt!

  • heelsgirl05 Dec 5, 5:32 p.m.

    Go Ms. Ruffin!

  • Pirate01 Dec 5, 5:15 p.m.

Women out there......STOP HAVING BABIES OUT OF WEDLOCK WITH THESE FOOLS!!!!

  • timetochange Dec 5, 5:14 p.m.

We need to ban knives. Steak, butter, butcher, pocket etc.

  • Scubagirl Dec 5, 5:13 p.m.

maybe she texted him the break up trying to AVOID a confrontation. Didn't work though.

Hope they lock him up for a very long time. and THANK YOU Ms. Ruffin for helping. A heroine for sure

  • working for deadbeats Dec 5, 5:04 p.m.

Women really need to think twice about who they date and make babies with.

  • pedsRN Dec 5, 5:02 p.m.

What a psycho! Bless Ms Ruffin for trying to stop the crazy man.

  • gregg45 Dec 5, 4:59 p.m.

  • working for deadbeats Dec 5, 4:56 p.m.

  • mewuvbb Dec 5, 4:52 p.m.

KUDO'S Jennifer! To the DA and The Judge DO YOUR JOBs WITH THIS ONE

  • SportsLover75 Dec 5, 4:47 p.m.

I am glad they are okay and hope the baby doesnt have any problems. I am so thankful they passed the law to help protect unborn children, but I believe it should be attempted murder on the unborn child. If you are attempting to kill the mother then you know you will kill the child. Just my opinion. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

  • whatdowehavehere Dec 5, 4:29 p.m.

Of course the police will say, " Never take the law into your own hands." But when it's a split second decision to get involved and put yourself at risk or not, I believe that is what makes heroes. So I would love for this comment to get back to the Jennifer Ruffin. I admire you and strongly believe that you are a hero.

  • johnny2times Dec 5, 4:23 p.m.

What ever happened to just walking away? Oh wait! that would take a MAN to do. Hope she and the baby recover.

  • JJ20 Dec 5, 4:21 p.m.

    "For the trouble?"

Makes it sound like it was an inconvenience to the woman who risked her own life to save two others!

  • charmcclainlovesdogs2 Dec 5, 4:21 p.m.

He is a hero to this young lady and possibly saved her life. Hopefully the unborn baby will survive all of this. But this "boyfriend" should be sent to jail for a long time. This was a domestic case. I pray she don't go back to him and go to court and have him declare unfit to be a father.
