    Vote NO on school bonds.

  • westernwake1 Dec 6, 5:11 p.m.

"Phew! Now, we can get back to common sense. With Margiotta/Tedesco running rampant with attitude issues, this WCPSS parent (16 years) is hopeful to get back to basics and ease. I have only 2 and 1/2 more years and I'll be done with WCPSS. Thanks to Margiotta/Tedesco: I've had it." - lindaburton2004

The rest of us 'Had It' in Wake County many years before Margiotta/Tedesco showed up. Under the old Democratic board our chidren's schools were changed EVERY SINGLE YEAR to support a diversity policy that provided no educational value.

The 'Choice Plan' was a compromise to appease Rev Barber and the Democrats, and is not the Neighborhood School Assignment Plan wanted by the Republicans.

Over 95% of the school systems in the U.S. successfully use neighborhood school assignment plans - including all of the school districts in the U.S. that are larger than Wake or growing faster than Wake. It is time that Wake County followed their lead.

Does there even need to be bonds to raise funds? I thought there is a $32 million dollar surplus in Wake County!

  • injameswetrust2003 Dec 5, 6:11 p.m.

"They should all be fired..." - mkg1047

I agree with that. Hill should have resigned when he decided he didn't want to be the chairperson. He couldn't - and can't- handle the heat and his failed leadership lead to the dismissal of Tata. How about this- as part of the school bond the members all agree to resign.

  • mkg1047 Dec 5, 5:57 p.m.

This school board is acting like a bunch of 5th graders. They should all be fired and let the 5th graders run the board. I can promise you they would accomplish a heck of a lot more than this board. Not voting for any bond until Wake County cleans up this mess.

  • ConservativeVoter Dec 5, 4:57 p.m.

Seeing that Sutton threatened another school board member previously, he should resign along with Evans who reached over and took the microphone away from another school board member.

  • federalsales2 Dec 5, 4:15 p.m.

I speak for everyone that does not live in Wake county. We are so tried of having to hear about Wake county schools..What a joke the system is,, Man I am so glad my kids are not in school anymore...

  • MARX Dec 5, 3:52 p.m.

"The ONE thing the state legislature should do is force Wake County, as long as it has county-wide school assignment, to allow Wake voters to hold ALL school board members accountable at the ballot box." This was proposed in the legislature and sent to a committee where it was tabled. I do think we should keep this idea going for a vote, so stay on your respective legislative member.

  • cjw6105 Dec 5, 3:34 p.m.

The ONE thing the state legislature should do is force Wake County, as long as it has county-wide school assignment, to allow Wake voters to hold ALL school board members accountable at the ballot box.

The Wake School System's administrators, a liberal group by anyone's definition, doesn't want its members to answer to all Wake voters. It takes away their power to control.

Control is what the Wake School System is all about.

  • JustAName Dec 5, 3:18 p.m.

"I agree, this is a cost-prohibitive idea, and another LEA would have to be approved by the legislature. The current trend is to decrease the number of LEAs." - injameswetrust2003

You mean the legislature that had a big change for the first time in 100 years? There are enough problems in Wake county for serious consideration of splitting up the system.

  • bobbyj Dec 5, 3:17 p.m.

oh goodie this should turn out just fine. NOT.

the entire school board needs to be removed and we do a reset. they are all there for the wrong reasons.

You know what schools need? More adults in the households with school aged children.

  • NiceNSmooth Dec 5, 3:15 p.m.

Order is being restored back to the WCPSS school board. The people spoke and voted out the prior Magiotti along with the other ranters which was a great start. School board meetings are more civilized now.

    ====================================

Bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!! You're kill'n me. The people spoke? Dude, read up and open your eyes. There is nothing that is good, stable or normal from this board and hasn't been for a number of years.

I never heard any real issues from the BoE until Margotta and his ilk got elected and tried to bully Wake County into their way of thinking and thank goodness we had a few people stand up to him. Then the voters spoke up and kicked him out on his duff (Soon Tedesco and the prom queen are gone) and but in the meanwhile we will still have to deal with them and their bully tactics Once they are gone this board will calm down and get to work

  • ConservativeVoter Dec 5, 2:54 p.m.

"The school board is a reflection of our community. Divided, bickering and uncompromising. Wake County is not unique. School boards across the country are suffering from the extremely partisan political environment we've created. - InvolvedCitizen"

The problem with our school boards is that it's used as an entry point into politics. The school board members are more concerned about their political future than the children attending our schools.

  • itsyoureternalsoul Dec 5, 2:19 p.m.

You know what schools need? More adults in a classroom. One teacher is overwhelmed at the amount of poor behavior and rebellion that comes from the public. The public parents who "love" their kids.

  • itsyoureternalsoul Dec 5, 2:17 p.m.

There are NC Laws that govern what a school board can and cannot do without a Superintendant. There are also laws that back the "guidance and experience" of the Superintendant OVER the "elected" laypeople of the school board. Wake County School board is lucky it has not been sued in this area

  • kimandwill89 Dec 5, 2:12 p.m.

Just waiting patiently to vote NO to any and all requests for more money from this chaotic school district.

There is nothing that is good, stable or normal from this board and hasn't been for a number of years. Only change has occurred. And not all change is good. I'm just glad my youngest is a year and a half away from graduation from this system. The implosion is near!!

  • tarheelfan41 Dec 5, 1:49 p.m.

Go ahead and put that Bond on the ballet next year I will be voting against any school bond as long as the current members remain.
    common_sense_plz
You and about 55% of the rest of us too! It will never pass as long as these bullies are in control!

  • tarheelfan41 Dec 5, 1:41 p.m.

The school board needs to learn that it's not the job of the schools to fix all of societies ills through social engineering programs like the failed socio-economic diversity (race) based busing.

Schools should only be their to teach our kids.

They shouldn't be their to social-engineer our society.
    ConservativeVoter

Gotta play the blame game. Its always someone else's fault. If all else fails blame it on society! Where's the self responsibility? If the government gives up "the great social engineering experiment" maybe real progress could be made.

  • tarheelfan41 Dec 5, 1:35 p.m.

Sutton threatened to hit another school board member who disagreed with him. ConservativeVoter

That's the way the left loves to bully everyone.

""true they were being hauled off by police
The protesters were going against the will of the voters who elected the Republicans in an election.

Just more bully tactics used by the left. They are not concerned with the education of the children, only that their side wins

  • Nope Dec 5, 1:34 p.m.

I don't think this will matter shortly after the beginning of the year. I think that the republican controlled legislature will make some drastic changes that will remove power from the wake county board either through funding or rule changes. They could move to break up the district and do away with the board.

  • tarheelfan41 Dec 5, 1:30 p.m.

School board meetings are more civilized now. Citizens of Wake County need to work with the board to ensure that we keep order and come up with a good assignment plan. Everyone will not be able to get everything they want, it is just not possible.

That being said, I don't know if I'd want a school board chair who said to other members "We're going to kick your [rears] "
    injameswetrust2003
"Jerking a portable microphone from my hand while leaning into my personal space falls in the confines of assault," she said.

I'm sorry, what were you saying? More civilized? Geesh! Looks like to me the left was in control and the right didn't like it gained majority control, made a bunch of changes and the left flipped out. Protests, arrests, name calling and chaos ruled the day. The left regained control, made changes. Now name calling and more chaos. My crystal sees another control change, more changes and more chaos! And then the left re regains control more name calling more..

  • ConservativeVoter Dec 5, 11:42 a.m.

Classic case of idiocy by the WCPSS.

Durant Trails is next to Durant Road Elementary and middle school.

Durant Road Elementary used to be the year round elementary choice for Durant Trails. With the new school board, the choice has been moved to Rolesville.

Similar for Durant Road Middle School.

The problem with WCPSS is that nobody on the school board has common sense.

  • ifcdirector Dec 5, 11:34 a.m.

Sutton is sure to hit these problems hard by assaulting them and slapping them down with a pugilistic approach that will certainly lead to batter........er.....better progress.

Keith Sutton as school board chairman is a slap at the voters of Wake County.

true they were being hauled off by police because they were protesting what the GOP bullies on the WCSB were trying to do with our childrens education. NiceNSmooth

    ==============================================

But they WERE hauled off in any case. And it did no good only disrupted. Status quo for groups like the NAACP. If half of their energy was directed for productive reasons rather than destructive reasons they'd be light years ahead of where they are now. As for Malone, no real argument there. Busing for social economic reasons is wrong. People live where they live for reasons, and trying to force them will otherwise will further alienate them.

  • gnboliver2 Dec 5, 11:19 a.m.

In spite of electing Sutton as chair, I fear that we will still see Rev. Barber at a School Board meeting sometime in 2013 calling the Board "racist"...especially if the Board compromises with the County Commissioners on realistic spending plans.

  • lec02572 Dec 5, 11:17 a.m.

The school board is the joke of the country now. If people running against these people had the money for tv commercials the leaders of this group would certainly be easy targets. They care nothing about the children, they are only numbers to be moved at their will. Until they actually care about the children and not numbers of qualifying students in each school they will never have a good school system.

  • Wake1 Dec 5, 11:13 a.m.

  • pappybigtuna1 Dec 5, 11:01 a.m.

this does not make me happy

heard they are going to float a "new" Pre-K program - it is the pre-conception pre-K Pre-natal school program, this way we can become acustom to paying school taxes earlier in their lives

Think the taxable age would be 8 years old, after all they are using the program, whats fair is fair

But I appreciate the vote of confidence! :)

  • NiceNSmooth Dec 5, 10:40 a.m.

WCPSS is the only large school district in the country that doesn't have neighborhood schools.

That should tell you how insane the busing for socio-economic diversity (race) based busing is.

and how equally insane this Choice Plan is

  • NiceNSmooth Dec 5, 10:32 a.m.

And for those in Malone's district, they won't have even one member they voted for when Malone's replaced.

And I cant be happier.. Malone was unresponsive and ineffective So who ever replaces him cant be any worse
