Christmas has turned into something it isn't supposed to be. I'd be fine if Christmas was no longer a federal holiday and that the celebrations would be exactly what they are supposed to be, going to church to celebrate the birth of Christ and then we would do the same at Easter. And yes, I am a Christian. I always feel a little embarrassed that a HUGE deal is made out of a holy day in my religion, but not in other religions. For a country founded for religious tolerance, we aren't very tolerant about other religions.

"With all the objection to Christmas, the displays, the PC of the use of the word, removed from school, I perdict in under 20 years there no longer be a Christmas Holiday, probably be referred to as "shmuck day"" Bigpappytuna1

Do you know that celebrating "Christmas" was illegal in colonial America until the 1680's and was frowned upon being celebrated until the late 18th century! In 1647 a law was passed making both Christmas AND Easter celebrations illegal. ( they are both based on pagan holidays). Christmas was not a federal holiday until 1870. Christmas trees? ( pagan druid symbols) Mistletoe? ( the pagans used that to poison their human sacrifices. Christmas? an update on both Winter solstice celebrations and the Roman Saturnalia. Easter? named after the celebration in spring of the goddess Astarte ( those eggs and rabbits, pagan fertility symbols). Education is a good thing,

"please don't tell me anyone is surprised, these what ever wait 11 months to perform at this level of success"

What does that even mean?

"With all the objection to Christmas, the displays, the PC of the use of the word, removed from school, I perdict in under 20 years there no longer be a Christmas Holiday, probably be referred to as "shmuck day""

You do realize the "PC" "Happy Holidays" refers to the holiday season that runs from November to January. Christians are not the only group with holidays at this time of year.

"Too many Durham residents lack any respect for others, and themsleves."

Really, PowederedToastMan? Why such a generalization? I've lived in Durham for almost 27 years, and I have NEVER felt this way about others in Durham. I don't understand your comment at all.

Too many Durham residents lack any respect for others, and themsleves.

Christmas has ten times the presence of Easter, yet the latter has still managed to survive. Somehow, I think Christmas will survive even if the cashier at Walmart says "Happy Holidays" and nativity scenes are "only" allowed on the property of millions of churches and hundreds of millions of Christians.

...We're supposed to be able to forgive, but this is probably a hard thing to do if I find out who did this."

LOL. What a joke. You'd have a hard time forgiving someone who steals christmas decorations? Did they run over his dog too? Geez, some people are ridiculous.

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch!

Maybe that's the only Christmas they'll have. Unfortunate.
