The only reason you've had to "endure" that "manure" is precisely because of comments just like this: "at this point [Roy] hasn't been implicated for anything at all."
1)For one, he's been totally "implicated." The evidence uncovered has done nothing but "implicate" his involvement in academic rule breaking. His problems @ Kansas + Wayne Walden + Sean May + Mary Willingham clearly "implies" Roy had knowledge, and potentially input into what was taking place. Are you sure you know what the word "implicated" means? It is not the same as "indicted."
2) The only reason this "implication" hasn't resulted in anything more is because pretty much everyone in a position to do something about it: UNC faculty/admin, the local media (sans Dan Kane), ESPN (president is a UNC alum), the BOG (UNC alums), the ACC (commish John Swofford=UNC alum), the SBI (run by gov's office, UNC alum Bev Purdue) are all associated with UNC and doing their best to cover the whole dam thing up so that it goes away without completely destroying the basketball team and, gulp, possibly being traced back to Dean Smith.
3) And that leaves guys like you. The fans/alums. Who, if they weren't such self-absorbed image-obsessed pansies, might stand up and demand that the people who broke the rules be held accountable. But you don't want that. And you don't want that because you're afraid. You're afraid of the truth. And that's why you refuse to connect the dots on your own. That's why you bury your head in the sand, hiding behind absurd comments like "Roy hasn't been implicated in anything yet."
You're in complete denial. And as long as UNC supporters keep hiding from the truth, guess what, you're going to keep getting called out by Duke/NCSU/Wake fans who have had to listen to your degrading condescension and self-righteous "Dean Smith is the greatest"/"the Carolina Way" yapping for the last three decades. You only have yourselves to blame.

"The guardians of college sports can commit no greater sin than to compromise the academic integrity of their institutions"
Well, there you have it in a nutshell. If you're guilty, let the chips fall where they may.
PacknoPride Dec 1, 9:30 a.m.
I would also but after reading 3 years of UNCheat comments, I feel it necessary to reply. What crime has Butch Davis been convicted of? Show me proof where Butch Davis did anything wrong. Anyway, this is not really about Jimmy V. This about how Debbie is using Jimmy V to "fire up" the team. This is display will also help with recruiting, and I'm sure you will see shirts, and jerseys on sale with this model. She knows how to feed the Redrager and control them like the ravaging rage they are.
BTW, There is a difference between Valvano as a coach and the setup he had with Poulton, and the man that was humbled by cancer and did so much to fight against the disease that killed him.
There were many articles on ABC and ESPN not concerning him, but finding articles from over 20 years ago isn't easy. But, I read Personal Fouls many years ago, and I believe most of the stuff that was written in that book. Too bad the NCAA rules committee was so limited in staff to do the type of investigation that they can do now and would be required to do now.
jgunn Dec 1, 9:02 a.m.
Wow - interesting article. I guess it's easy to romanticize the Jimmy V era, but as a Heels fan, I'd be well served to keep my pie hole shut, as we all know about the football program's academic violations.
scousler Dec 1, 4:29 a.m.
Yeah..its funny how in retrospect many people remember the big upset and Valvano's early demise which turned him into some kind of martyr, and yet conveniently forget just how out of control the basketball program was under his tenure. It wasn't just some players selling shows - it was the wholesale recruiting of people who never belonged in college and how very few of them ever came close to graduation.

Yeah, that did make me laugh. Serious subject, IMHO, and no disrespect meant to V, but leave it to TBK to provide much needed humor:)
scorekeep Nov 30, 7:12 p.m.
State is honoring a coach THEY ran out of town? No NCAA violations were discovered on his watch unles you count selling shoes. Great to honor what he stood for later in his life but State had no backbone on his firing. Fired over a book of lies.
cmmsbft Nov 30, 5:38 p.m.
...In other words you have no idea what you are talking about.
mxteam44 Nov 30, 4:31 p.m.
I see your point, but you have to realize the utter manure we UNC fans have had to endure the last couple of years, with State fans saying Roy is also guilty in the academic scandal. Is he? I have no idea. But at this point, he hasn't been implicated for anything at all. Just NCSU talking points. But again, I see your point.

I actually like it! Really liked Jimmy V too. I don't think there were any Pack fans screaming any louder than I was in my living room the night of the "big shot" in '83. Hey, I loving seeing the cinderella team win it sometimes!
lec02572 Nov 30, 3:52 p.m.
If you were around then you know some of the players were selling shoes. Coach V did nothing wrong. Show us something where Jimmy V was charged with anything or did anything wrong. Proof not talk. Also, ESPN had no problem hiring Valvano as shown by their continued support for the Jimmy V Foundation, the amount of air time he got back then and even now. No rewrite, just fact.
jwpnc Nov 30, 3:04 p.m.
This is the best design they could come up with??
TruthBKnown Banned Again01 Nov 30, 2:48 p.m.
It's...... the JIMMY V CLASSIC.
What are we supposed to do? Wear jersey's honoring Herb?
3forme Nov 30, 2:38 p.m.
Those of you who mock him and the tributes to him and what he stood for really need to keep a civil tongue about this subject...I have lost a mother and a son to this dreaded disease and anyone who supports this cause has my respect..Jimmy V wasn't perfect by any means but no one should question his courage and his love for this cause. If you don't have anything good to say about him just keep your words to yourself and show how much you care about the cause by supporting The V Foundation..
PacknoPride Nov 30, 1:56 p.m.
Debbie knows how to play the Red Ragers.
PacknoPride Nov 30, 1:52 p.m.
Dougherty is a state college fan. He thinks that picture and name is cute. The closest he ever got to getting in to state college was when he delivered a pizza there.
PacknoPride Nov 30, 1:47 p.m.
Maybe you can get one of the players to sell you one? Valvano's teams were known for selling uniforms.
I was around during the Valvano era. I remember ESPN was afraid to hire him because of his reputation. It's amazing how history can rewrite itself 20 years later.
baldchip Nov 30, 1:47 p.m.
Buco-you do not have to hear that speech ever again. Do you have a remote? CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!
Some of us are inspired every year when we hear that speech. I pray that ESPN plays that speech every year for the next 50 years as a way of motivating folks to give to cancer research!!
And yes-we need to listen to Dicky V talk about Jimmy V and the V Foundation. He is the best saleman they have. Talk about a motivated guy-he's great.
I look forward to that 1st Tuesday night in December EVERY YEAR to hear that speech again. And yes-I cry every time! I watched him give that speech-and yes-I cried then!!
I'm sorry Buco-just change the channel if you don't like Jimmy V or his speech!!
lec02572 Nov 30, 1:32 p.m.
It wasn't the state fans who hated Jimmy V or drove him out of town, it was the administration. Get it right, the fans always loved Jimmy V and supported him. You may not have been old enough or remember, but Jimmy V could have and maybe should have left for UCLA, but he stayed because of the fans.

Obamacare, if you really live in Beverly Hills.........get a life. If you don't but just lied about it to look cool................get a life. If you just joined last month.............get a life. If you changed your profile because you got banned...........you guessed it.........get a life.

I think the Pack will quit late in the game and end up losing by 15 or more.
bichonman Nov 30, 12:38 p.m.
Tarheel fan here. Everyone should support anyone or any institution raising funds to stop this disease. I have a granddaughter 2 1/2 yrs. old trying to beat this disease. You never know until it hits your family.
tarheelgrad1998 Nov 30, 12:37 p.m.
I'm not trying to be insensitive, but...really...NCSU fans loved V for the championship, then hated him and drove him out of town, then loved him again once he got (and more once he passed) from cancer.
V's legacy to cancer research is good, but any rational NCSU fan should be able to see that the situation is...odd. Ha...I said rational NCSU fan....Bueler? Bueler?
I Carry even in Cary Nov 30, 12:11 p.m.
I usually do not post in these comment sections becuase, well mostly, they turn in to an ugly mess. I will say today though, as a lifetime supporter of NCSU, that I very much appreciate Taheel born and Dougherty for having the class to realize that this is much more of a subject than a reason for State and UNC fans to bash each other. I have lost dear friends and family to cancer this year and it is a fight that we must continue to support with our money and time. The never give up line is great but the more important one is "This might not save my life but it could save my childrens"
Tarheel born Nov 30, 11:36 a.m.
Shut the F up.....you can't spell and know nothing of history........
lec02572 Nov 30, 11:25 a.m.
Anyone who is embarrassed by Jimmy V probably was not even born at the time he coached. Jimmy V was a friend to all fans, a great man, and a good coach. I would love to someday have the court named after him. If you want to reunite the Pack nation this would be a great step. I hate what the university did to him and the basketball program. Maybe, if they recognize him for who he was, some of us will retune to the games.
buco Nov 30, 10:49 a.m.
Why do we have to hear that speech every year. The unitard was great. Chris Correone didn't like them becanuse of his lake of bulge factor. Speaking of Crooks
Tarheel born Nov 30, 10:39 a.m.
Agreed......and any transgressions Jimmy V made he's already paid for 1000 times over. In the meantime he made his life and his death something we should all aspire to - leaving this world a better place than when we entered. We all draw our inspiration from someone or something. They're aren't many other men I would chose over Winston Churchill. But JV didn't "steal" anything.
Instead of bashing use your credit card to vent your anger at Cancer and give big!
Tarheel born Nov 30, 10:30 a.m.
Now THAT is funny......
tayled Nov 30, 10:00 a.m.
Churchill may have been an inspiration for the speech, but in no way did Jimmy V "steal" the speech. Have you ever listened to Churchill's speech about not giving up and then listened to V's speech? Two totally different sets of circumstances where speeches were given by men inspired to do so.
aspenstreet1717 Nov 30, 9:48 a.m.
Jimmy V was a cheat and stole his speech from Churchill.
tayled Nov 30, 9:45 a.m.
This is not about living in the past, this goes WAY beyond basketball.
rduguyhere Nov 30, 9:40 a.m.
I remember Paul Korcheaney wearing those tards. That was right funny.
rduguyhere Nov 30, 9:39 a.m.
I can't believe they are going to wear those Unitards again.... Those are so tarded. lol
Triumph Nov 30, 9:27 a.m.
The coach should wear a red checkered sport coat from the Norm Sloan era. And, red pants with white shoes.
Coach Doherty Nov 30, 9:19 a.m.
Hey towel boy go die!
aspenstreet1717 Nov 30, 9:13 a.m.
I thought Jimmy V was a cheater??
Coach Doherty Nov 30, 9:11 a.m.
I wish you could say that in person. Boobyj sounds like one of those names when your parents are brother and sister and they name their kid.

PACK_SKINS_CANES Nov 30, 7:44 a.m.
This is not about living in the past but remembering a man and his vision. Would you all be so critical if all teams were wearing a Jimmy V logo that were participating in this classic?
jacamoe Nov 30, 7:38 a.m.
Is this an effort to unify a unified team or a tribute to Jim Valvano?
You are even dumber than you sound. Maybe you should try finishing college before trying to spell it. I'm sure what you meant to say was ununified. I know it's tricky for kids.
packfan07 Nov 30, 7:24 a.m.
You need to find another team to pull for then,UNC is full of Criminals.
bobbyj Nov 30, 7:16 a.m.
I don't respect criminals.
jgunn Nov 30, 7:05 a.m.
Nice gesture to honor a State legend and raise money for a worthy cause.
beckerunc Nov 30, 6:54 a.m.
I just wish NCSU did not dishonor him while he was alive.
