"Wish the media will get off of the skin color thing."

Don't worry they have, when the black flash mobs happen they are merely "teens"

  • storchheim Nov 29, 1:27 p.m.

djofraleigh, consider the source. Do what I do and ignore the posterbaiters.

  • faithtripp Nov 29, 1:27 p.m.

Thank you for your service Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson, I apologize for the disrespect that WRAL has to not even put your name in the headline.

  • faithtripp Nov 29, 1:25 p.m.

There ya' all go again with the "BLACK" thing.

  • baldchip Nov 29, 11:26 a.m.

If you read the article, she probably will not pick the nominee!! It takes 6 weeks for the Committee to do their work.
She will be out of office in 47 days. WHat is she going to do-pick one on Friday night before she leaves office on Saturday??

I'll answer my own question-I hope not-but she probably will-being the good liberal she is!!

  • fatchanceimwrong Nov 29, 11:00 a.m.

Funny...it's acceptable to call black people "people of color" but don't dare call them "colored people".

It's not acceptable to call them Negros but the United Negro College Foundation still uses that reference.

African-American is the acceptable term today but actually only applies to people born in Africa and who became American citizens.

The color of skin is still as predominant a factor in our society as it's ever been. I don't see us ever getting past it to where we see people as simply people.

As a black woman, I really dislike when the media says "the first black woman or first black man" to hold a certain position or to have accomplished something. Will it be written or said that Bev Perdue was the "first white woman" to be the governor of North Carolina? More than likely the media will say that Bev Perdue was the "first female governor" for North Carolina. It's ok to announce that Judge Patricia Timmons-Goodson is retiring but her skin color should have been left out (we see what color she is).Wish the media will get off of the skin color thing.

  • NCHighlander Nov 29, 8:43 a.m.

Maybe because of the fact that she was appointed to the position in 2006. That's a heck of a long time to not have ANYONE of color in the NC Supreme Court...just saying Juststatingthefacts

You mean a black. White is a color and last time I checked it doesn't represent evil in and of it's self.

  • Grand Union Nov 28, 7:46 p.m.

"Good riddance. Either she doesn't read trial transcripts, or she automatically sides with the government. Glad she is leaving."

Can you cite cases where either happened? no I didn't think you could. carry on.

  • Grand Union Nov 28, 7:45 p.m.

'"Don't you just love the fact that Bev will pic someone that we will have to contend with for at least two years????""

Yes its excellent isn't it :) So much better than waiting for McCrory to choose whomever his financial backers want (McCrory is another man that is ashamed of his taxes for some reason.....I wonder why?)

  • Grand Union Nov 28, 7:41 p.m.

"Appoint Sam Ervin IV, Governor Perdue."

    Great idea!

  • hp277 Nov 28, 7:38 p.m.

Appoint Sam Ervin IV, Governor Perdue.

  • hp277 Nov 28, 7:37 p.m.

Go ahead and appoint a Democrat, governor. Republicans have enough of a stranglehold on state government already.

  • mmtlash Nov 28, 6:22 p.m.

can't we all just get along?

  • djofraleigh Nov 28, 6:17 p.m.

Some little right winger wrote...-- COMMENT

see how the self-appointed morally superior speak of those opposing their views...is that not bigotry? All Democrats are not full of ridicule and feelings of hate. Not all Republicans are Rush's, either.

  • djofraleigh Nov 28, 6:13 p.m.

Does seem hard to think politics are not in the supreme court mix when the timing of this seems to be so Dem. Gov. Perdue can appoint before leaving office, before the Rep. Gov. Whatshisname and Republican legislature takes power. Such is the civil transfer of power in a democracy.

"Good riddance. Either she doesn't read trial transcripts, or she automatically sides with the government. Glad she is leaving." Inter Alios

Typical affimative action in action. If blodie gets to appoint her replacement, expect worse.

  • CuriousT Nov 28, 4:00 p.m.

"Why is it always about race? What happened to qualifications? Typical!" - connieleigh4

It will continue to be about race until people stop seeing "color" and seeing qualifications.

That said, she's an excellent judge; black, white, or "other".

  • Inter Alios Nov 28, 3:57 p.m.

Good riddance. Either she doesn't read trial transcripts, or she automatically sides with the government. Glad she is leaving.

Yes, yes we do. And you're welcome!

  • krimson Nov 28, 3:40 p.m.

Thank you for your many years of service to the State!

  • UNCSteve Nov 28, 3:30 p.m.

Juststatingthefacts, she is not the first person of "color" to serve on the NC Supreme Court. She is the first black WOMAN to serve on the Court. Henry Frye was appointed back in '83 and was appointed as Chief Justice in '99.

  • whatelseisnew Nov 28, 3:23 p.m.

    So what.

"Why is it always about race?"- it's not ALWAYS about race, but in a VERY southern state- remember the lunch counte sit ins?, to have the very first black "anything" to come into or leave office is a passing of the time and a sign of change. As we have more parity on the courts and elected offices of people of color and women as well, this will be less and less about race, sex, sexual orientation etc and more about the ability of the person. We are getting there, we just aren't there .....yet."

Wrong, that will never happen. Lefties are not bent that way. They will always claim something is being done to them. MOstly the bigotry and racism comes from the left. More and more the next round of strife will be people suing because they were discriminated against because of their race and gender. I hope soon to see lawsuits about being unfairly targeted by Government because of income.

  • wa4mjf Nov 28, 3:17 p.m.

Ervin or Thigpen, who will Bev chose?

  • OneLove Nov 28, 3:03 p.m.

Don't you just love how RACE is thrown in our face all the time but DON'T YOU DARE BRING IT UP?!

  • OneLove Nov 28, 2:54 p.m.
