"Investigators have determined that Lyons was in the car with the other three men and that he shot himself in the leg while inspecting a handgun, "

Excellent, really excellent! Another six gun toting Yahoo shot himself. At least he did not manage to shoot any innocent bystanders and hopefully the cops have confiscated the six gun. Hopefully it will be melted down and made in to a paper weight.

  • acp327 Nov 28, 2012

If other LE agencies were not called in to help with this "accident" , this would NEVER have made the news. Wake Forest officials would have made sure of that. Heck, there was at least one helicopter flying over where I live for over 45 minutes. But, hey, accidents happen...lol.

  • southerntalent Nov 28, 2012

amazed on the news last night had em rounded up within an hour and a half seemed like a great job by wfpd, wonder why the story ifs getting buried now

  • acp327 Nov 28, 2012

Quote from monami "Some accident with one of the involved parties being found (hiding) in a freezer! Hinky!"

I so agree with you. Sadly, I believe the news media adds to this problem. I believe they know the truth but are silenced, to fluff the story. Okay, obviously this will not be posted but the truth is the truth.

  • monami Nov 28, 2012

"A manhunt ensued for the third, who was captured 20 minutes later inside the freezer of a soon-to-open Buffalo Brothers restaurant on Retail Drive, officials said."

Some accident with one of the involved parties being found (hiding) in a freezer! Hinky!

  • Lovemy2kids Nov 28, 2012

If it was a so called "Accident" then why did the other two men run from the police? Someone is hiding the truth and I am thinking it is the WFPD!!!!!

  • btneast Nov 28, 2012

ALL hand guns require registration in ALL counties in NC

I do not think that is correct. To buy a hand gun, you have to get a permit in that county, but if you already own one, you do not have to register it.

  • btneast Nov 28, 2012

Well if you live in Durham you have to register your handgun if you intend on carrying it in Durham. I think Durham is the only county requiring registration of hand guns .

....and how is that working out?

  • jarhead762 Nov 28, 2012

The only county in the state that actually requires handgun registration after purchase is Durham county. The permit to legally carry is an altogether seperate issue.

  • acp327 Nov 28, 2012

Quoting JAT "something weird is going on here".

I agree. There is a lot going on weird in Wake Forest when it comes to disclosing actual incidents like these. Interesting FACT, the police department in Wake Forest, decides when they will or WILL NOT write up and incident report. Therefore, the crime rate reported by Wake Forest Police Department is inaccurate. (In all fairness I'm not sure what entity in Wake Forest implemented this insane decision).

I strongly believe it is an attempt to draw as many people to Wake Forest as possible and by not providing records or incidents it makes it look sooooo desirable. Wake Forest IS desirable, very desirable, but to LIE, imo, about true crime statistics is just crazy.

  • SmokeWagon Nov 28, 2012

..."Well if you live in Durham you have to register your handgun if you intend on carrying it in Durham. I think Durham is the only county requiring registration of hand guns .
    bdawg..."

ALL hand guns require registration in ALL counties in NC...plus to carry a concealed weapon you must be trained and request a CCW permit thru your local sherrif who sends your info and fingerprints to the FBI for a background check BEFORE you are issued the CCW permit.....UNLESS of course you are a criminal....in which case you don't have to trouble yourself with the above mentioned process nor obey any of the "no firearms allowed" signs.....these rules and laws ONLY apply to law abiding citizens.....!!!!!

  • JAT Nov 28, 2012

    something weird going on here.

  • brassy Nov 28, 2012

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

  • 1911A1 Nov 28, 2012

Well if you live in Durham you have to register your handgun if you intend on carrying it in Durham. I think Durham is the only county requiring registration of hand guns .

Okay, read this From the Wake Forest Gazette: http://www.wakeforestgazette.com/bm/news/police-department-review-very-positive.shtml

I find this part particularly interesting: "The commissioners had few comments, apparently because they were not aware of the study, but appeared to agree with Commissioner Frank Drake, who said he would like to hear more and “I’m interested in as professional a department as we can get for our money.”

THE COMMISSIONERS were not even AWARE OF THE STUDY!!??? What in the World??!! And the guy that did the study, look at his *wonderful* (I jest) background:

"Younce, who has worked in Fuquay-Varina, been the chief of police in Wilson and ended as the chief of the police force at NC State, reviewed the management practices, the field operations and the special operations".

  • shortcake53 Nov 28, 2012

People who are totally innocent dont run and hide. Not one of them stayed to help the guy who "accidentally" shot himself?? Nope, something stinks here.

  • NoRespect Nov 28, 2012

You don't register handguns or long guns in North Carolina. nascar33

Agreed... I was wrong in confusing the pistol permitting process with registration. There is no "registration" in North Carolina.

  • discowhale Nov 28, 2012

As a legal, daily carry CCH holder, knowledgeable about firearms, this story has more holes than Swiss Cheese!

They don't just go off while you hold them. Does your car start because you hold the key in the ignition switch? Does your TV come on just because you pick up the remote?

Someone was 'accidentally' shot, the story originally said inside a business, now it's outside, in a car, there was fleeing, chasing, finding, running, arresting, but the driver is still free. No ages, no addresses, no information much at all. Seriously?

And for those in the community who are anti-gun, a 20 year old isn't supposed to HAVE a handgun without an adult present. And given that NO ages are given, I'm doubting an adult is involved or THEY would be named as the 'adult' in the crowd.

Follow the money folks, somebody's mom and dad have $$$$ and this has all the earmarks of going away quietly.

  • nascar33 Nov 28, 2012

"I am assuming that it was a handgun that was involved... Was the gun registered?"

You don't register handguns or long guns in North Carolina.

  • nascar33 Nov 28, 2012

"If it was all just an accident, why'd they run?"

Well the guy that shot himself was underage for purchasing a handgun. So... Guessing they might all be underage. Stupid though as they're in a lot more trouble now.

  • whOcaRes4x4 Nov 28, 2012

To everyone who keeps making comments about whether the handgun was registered or stolen... Yes i'm sure that these wonderful citizens registered there handguns and bought them legally... Since criminals follow the laws and all

  • NoRespect Nov 28, 2012

Mike H: Correct, but you must have a pistol permit in order to purchase one (legally). That, all by itself, tags the individual with that weapon.

  • Rebelyell55 Nov 28, 2012

So did they recover the hand gun? Was it stolen? Legal?

  • Bill of Rights Nov 28, 2012

NoRespect: North Carolina doesn't have a handgun registry.

  • jrfergerson Nov 28, 2012

Money will buy anything these days even perhaps a cover up - people don't run from the law - something don't add up here

  • I know some stuff Nov 28, 2012

once again we see, that there are an awful lot of guns out there, in the hands of fools. And the trend is not in a favorable direction.

  • acp327 Nov 28, 2012

Hmmmm, well that's interesting. I was told a completely different story from what WRAL is reporting by two, imo, reliable sources who are not connected with Law Enforcement, Bill Crabtree or the Town Council.

Oh well. Let's just all pretend crime doesn't happen in Wake Forest and turn a blind eye.

I will admit, it appears several LE sources came together and resolved the situation quickly. For that I am grateful. But this determination by LE (and which LE sources involved have determined this)...nah, don't buy it.

  • OleNCNative Nov 28, 2012

Having your friend shoot himself in the leg is not illegal. Running for the police is.

I agree with WolfPack9. This sounds fishy.

  • workinghuman33 Nov 28, 2012

IMHO...sounds like they are possibly underage and I wonder about the legality of the gun or right to carry. Sunshine friends! Lyons should re-evaluate who his "friends" are. Notice the locations, I am thinking parents with $$ were contacted and will deal with the rest.....seems fair....sure.

  • thatdudeg Nov 28, 2012

I don't think this story adds up, you don't run away when your friend shoots himself in the leg.

  • NoRespect Nov 28, 2012

There has got to be more to this story... Innocent folks don't run and hide after something like this.

I am assuming that it was a handgun that was involved... Was the gun registered? To any of them? Were they "inspecting" the gun to make sure it was loaded before they robbed the store they were sitting in front of?

  • southerntalent Nov 28, 2012

seems at least one of them has a possible upcoming date in court for drugs

  • southerntalent Nov 28, 2012

    http://www1.aoc.state.nc.us/www/calendars/CriminalQuery.html

  • Reader X Nov 28, 2012

Just STUPID! And they made the situation even worse. Unreal.

  • southerntalent Nov 28, 2012

Investigators have determined that Lyons was in the car with the other three men and that he shot himself in the leg while inspecting a handgun, officials said Tuesday. The other men fled after a wounded Lyons stumbled out of the car.

why were they inspecting a handgun in a place like that, did they mean to rob someone and shot themselves by accident, this story is a bit odd

  • Whatever27 Nov 28, 2012

If it was all just an accident, why'd they run?

  • WolfPack9 Nov 28, 2012

    This sounds fishy.

  • Homeward Nov 28, 2012

Nice to know who your friends are when you accidentally shoot yourself in the leg.

  • jhk0704 Nov 28, 2012

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Way to go Plaxico!

  • southerntalent Nov 28, 2012

no comments yet, come on an accident with a police chase?
